James Rodriguez| Is considering his options

He's not a winger so he'll be in contention for the same roles as Rooney, Mata, Januzaj, Lingard, Andreas Pereira: #10-a-like. Not the player United most need. How about we buy a fast right winger who can cross and go past their man, or a taller-footballing-left centre-back, or Carrick's replacement, or a fabulously expensive 40 goal/season forward. I already think Rashford is a 25+ goal/season forward.

Right now he is the clear winner with these options. If mourinho comes no way he will play pereira and mostly won't play januzaj too. Mata already has been sold by him once so it won't be surprising if he did that again.

But when James was at his best for your lot (last season), he was excellent, wasn't he? Would I be correct in saying his top level his very high?

He's not been consistent enough, though. This season has been awful for him.

Yup, I agree with what you have said there. When he is on form he is a great player, but this season he did not progress like I hoped he would, due to a number of reasons.

I really rate him but the last thing we need is another Di Maria style transfer....

He's physically stronger than Di Maria though, I actually think James would be perfect for the Premiership. The only downside I can see to this possible transfer is the fee, he's worth 40 million maximum. I'd imagine Madrid would want bigger figures.

How well would he suit Mou's idea of a #10 I wonder?
He could simply be his new Oscar in a more positive meaning but in combo with more wide option like Griezmann this should give reasonable boost in both Europe and PL.

We wanted Muller but he may not move from Bayern anytime soon, so James could be interesting alternative in this situation.

The closest we have to Mourinho's idea of Oscar is Herrera even if he doesn't have the goal scoring output Mourinho desires.

Why Oscar, why not Ozil? James contribution to the attack is closer to Ozil's than Oscar's.

He is a player I'd want, especially if he's up for the move!

I feel people don't realise just how good he can be.

According to a Colombian journalist he wants to stay and fight for his place. Also his wife gave an interview saying how happy she is in Madrid because of the language and culture and that she doesn't want to leave.

We should stay away.

True, see that's the thing, there are not many alternatives out there that would substantially improve the creative side at the moment. Hopefully there will be more options soon as window will fully kick in but someone with killer pass ability would be also great. If only Herrera could find his game under Mou's management it would get a lot easier for everyone.

I think Mourinho could use his title winning experience with Chelsea to recreate that model of a PL winning team in United but even if James is more like Ozil, it will still help us also in creative aspect of attacking so I'm more than okay with that comparison.

This sounds almost identical to Di Maria.

Now that Mendes is a part of a family again, I hope we stay clear of James, not Mourinho kind of player, not suited to EPL, and would be only a slight upgrade on Mata.

Perfect upgrade on Mata. Will be our Ozil, Payet type of player.

Are people ignoring the existence of Ozil?

That's like saying Sofia Vergara is only a slight upgrade on Angela Merkel.

goes missing in big games and just walks about without putting any effort in before padding his stats against cannon fodder?

shit boi

Don't you think signing another big name reject from South America is a bad idea? Although it does sound like our new #7...

Perfect.

We tried to sign him from porto IIRC under fergie, before his monaco move blew us out of the water.

Not convinced he's any better than Mata was at Chelsea. In a better side Mata would look a lot better. James would be poor for us if we'd had him last few seasons.

He had an absolute tremendous start to the season, was tearing it up until an injury. I think he would be a decent improvement on Mata if he would make an effort.

Actually, he covers more distance than the vast majority of players and in the seven matches he played against top five teams this year he had two goals and seven assists. But don't let facts get in the way of a comforting stereotype.

Don't want him, simply for the fact I wouldn't be able to cope pronouncing his name Jaaaahmez,
No but seriously, Mourinho likes workers, people who don't drift out of the game when off the ball (coughMatacough),
If he think James is capeable of putting in a shift, I don't see why not? obviously has talent.

I don't want him because I think Mata has a lot more to offer. Mata at chelsea was simply world class. Play him in a team that's not totally shambolic, give him some freedom and he can be a magician.

But Mourinho happily sold him :wenger:

Probably the first time I'm happy that the wife of a star player wants to stay in Madrid. Don't think he's that good of an improvement over Mata for the money Madrid will ask for him and will probably look just as laboured as Mata in a disjointed system such as ours, neither is he good enough to single handedly change the fortunes of a team.

If we buy James and put him as our playmaker and free kick taker I will probably pass out. I honestly thought this moment would be impossible when RM bought him after the WC. I can't believe it!! I put this transfer higher than Di Maria - and I thought Di Maria was the 3rd best player in the world when we bought him.

He's a good player and I rate him, but I think he wouldn't be a success here. We need players that are hungry and motivated to play for United and I'm not convinced he would be.

We need players motivated to be the best for themselves. Not for the club they play.

I think James just wants to play and be the best player he can, but in RM things doesn't work like everywhere else. You can be great for them , but they will sweep you under the rug for money or some other non-football related reason.

If he can be the player he is for Colombia (If Mou thinks he can), then we should be in for him obviously, just for a fair price and not give the blank check to RM like we did with Di Maria.

He's too similar to Mata for me. We need pace and dribbling skill for the right wing, he's not it.

This was my biggest fear when I heard about Mourinho coming in and Mendes getting his foot in the door. Instead of identifying a player and working towards signing him, Mendes suggests one of his available clients and negotiates the deal, with a nice cut for his agency.

But Mourinho happily sold him :wenger:

Mourinho sold Garay too and noe seems to be interested in him because Mendes is trying to use our money on his clients.

If we play 433 next season, where do you think he would fit better, as midfielder or winger? He has played in both positions in Madrid.

I really doubt we would, and he wouldn't fit if that's the case. Madrid play a 4-3-3 under Zidane and it's one of the main reasons he struggles for game time now. Right wing, though. Like how Mata plays there.

In the limited amount of time I've seen him play I think his best position is the #10 spot.
