He has been offered a new contract. Great to see us tie down all our exciting young talents.

Probably cost more to get him from Everton now than Roma will settle for for Strootman.

We simply dont need him now we have Blind. The position is covered.

Now it takes someone on Strootman's level to be a worthwhile investment

1/10

As much as it pains me as he turned down Scotland, I'd love him in our squad.

To do that when you are 4-0 up in the 90th minute is just a testament to the players attitude, i love him. He went 81 minutes without giving the ball away and that was the only time in the match he did. He needs to get that new contract signed asap.

Absolutely class performance tonight, love that he's showing he can do it on the European stage aswell as the PL. Easily in the bracket of top 10 midfielders in the league.

Just mentioned this in the EL thread. He was immaculate tonight. He really is a class act.

Can't believe there are people that think Henderson's on a different level to him (never mind Herrera). I'd take McCarthy over him any day.

Most would. Think that was one deluded Liverpool fan that said it on here yesterday.

I get the impression that a lot of people think only Everton fans and Irish people think McCarthy's any good.

I certainly rate McCarthy higher though I don't think there is much separating him and Henderson. Can see both arguments.

Well McCarthy is seriously underrated on here.

For example you only have to look at the reactions of certain posters on here when we were linked to him this summer.

I'd love to have had him here. I think he has the ability to be as good if not better than Carrick. I think I'd take him over Blind as well.

He was the base on which a very good Everton performance was built on tonight, I think there will be a few teams looking at him in the summer if he keeps this level up.

Still only 23 as well. Everton got a serious bargain when they signed him.

I always said we should have gone for him and let Everton keep Fellaini. He would be too expensive now. If he does not renew this season then I would love for us to try for him. Think he and Blind would provide an excellent base for the likes of Herrera and Di Maria to thrive.

He could have saved Moyes' job had he signed him.

Don't think so. I agree he is a very good talent but he is not a Xavi or Scholes who would transform our midfield singlehandedly and not let it run over by everyone. Plus Moyes would have destroyed his confidence as well.

He's insanely good at getting your defense out of trouble. The amount of times he's in an area making a last ditch tackle where you'd be likely to see a CB/FB is crazy.

No one thing would have saved Moyes, he was brought down by a multiple of failures rather than one big mistake.

Plus, given how underrated McCarthy is here sometimes, people may well have turned on him if he struggled and they associated him with Moyes. Everton was the right place for him to go at that stage of his career.

He could easily keep developing there for another three years and move on at 26 for a hefty enough fee.
