James Maddison | Spurs

Miles better than Mount but I'd sooner we look at a back up DM than Bruno. Amad can hopefully help in that role.

We need to stockpile these kinds of players till we're not scrambling for CL qualification anymore.

We need squad depth. Iheanacho, Maddison, Mount, Rabiot, are all good additions either from bench or as starters. But, the price has to be right.

I quite rate him but how much games we're looking for from Bruno backup? 5-10? Amad and Eriksen can easily handle that.

He carries the ball well, that's something we miss currently, but I reckon we'll get that from a midfielder we're after.

He will be in demand, expect him to end up at a Newcastle or Spurs, maybe Villa if they make a push. No point him being a back up player higher up at this stage of his career, and frankly it is bad for the league when established PL players make that choice, just lowers the competition yet further as you go down the league.

Not sure he gets into Newcastle side and I’m not sure Levy buys a ten if he is keeping Kane next season.
I’ll say he’s off to Liverpool

Mounts defensive numbers are far better and I think that’s what ETH wants, he wants someone who can contribute at both ends of the pitch and I don’t think that is Maddison.

He is a very good player, but I see him as more of a 10 at a middling club. Mount has won the CL as an 8 in an effective system. There are definitely tactical levels to football.

Mount is far less flash, but can have a bigger say on how a game goes at both ends of the pitch.

I like Maddison, he's a very clever and creative player. If he was available at a reasonable price and wanted to come to us, I think he'd be a good addition to the squad.

But if it came an expensive and time consuming bidding war with other clubs, not sure it'd be worth it.

I'd take him over Mount anyway of the week

As a creative player I'd prefer him to Mount, but does he work as hard as Mount?

I don't feel strongly enough about him to lose my shit if we didn't get him and got Mount instead, and if ETH prefers Mount over him, I'm happy to trust his judgement!

This post is spot on.

Neither Mount or Maddison are top 4 or even 6 quality, at least not as starters. I hope we do not bid unless they are on the cheap which I very much doubt would happen. I don't see Newcastle bidding for him now that they have made it to the CL I expect Pool to look for better as well, and Brighton will likely not waste the money. Maybe Spurs or Villa if it is a top half team?

I have an issue with his physique. He doesn't seem to have filled out at all. He's 26 with the body of a 16 year old. He can have close to zero upper body strength

I really do think he’s a quality #10, but we have Bruno. If you told me Spurs sold Kane and replaced him with Maddison and a new left side of defence with the money and were better I wouldn’t be surprised.

Leicester scored a decent number of goals this year, just couldn’t defend. Probably fair to assume Maddison was somewhat responsible for both outcomes, so I can see why we wouldn’t go for him. But if you have a creatively lacking, hardworking midfield like Spurs or AC Milan (though I guess they’re getting Kamada) I think he’d do well. Really clever playmaker, scores goals, just a really good classic #10 and yeah that’s out of style, but if you have a 6 and an 8 who can do their jobs I think he’s a quality starter.

Would be a decent signing. Would do a job for most of the top teams in the league. Don’t see how he’d work with Bruno if we was to go in for him though.
1. He can do exactly what the current Eriksen does. But with more oaxe and work rate because he is far younger.
2. Can operate in Bruno's role in his absence. Has both the set piece delivery and the creativity statistics for it
3. Can help stack midfield in big games by operating as a winger

Honestly he'd suit us and Ten Hag perfectly. The only lack we'd have by adding him is another Casemiro level 6 in the squad to make it truly work.

It isn't. Leicester were set up poorly as a team all year. Had next to nothing to do with his defensive abilities. He acrltually defends better than Eriksen who thrives for us big time.

More League goals and assists than Bruno even with playing 5 less games and in a relegation side also. We should be all over this.

I'd get rid of :

Martial
Sancho
VDB
McTominay
Henderson

I'd buy

Striker
Winger
Maddison
CDM
GK

I honestly don't think we need any defenders. RB and LB are both decent and we have 2 world class CB's plus 2 decent backups. I certainly wouldn't be paying Maguire to leave. If he wants to go, it should be without a payoff. Otherwise, he's not the worst 4th CB.

Linked with Spurs. Makes sense, he walks into their team but would have to seriously fight for his place at United, City, Arsenal or Liverpool. Newcastle and Chelsea probably both have their sights set a bit higher.

Not only are Newcastle after him, but I'd say it's about a 90% chance he will sign for them.

apparently we have told Spurs we want £60m, probably at Maddison's request so he can go to a club that will have a chance to win something

I know they were heavily linked with him before but that seems to have gone quiet? He'd be a great signing for them nonetheless, I think he's class. I'd have him here if we didn't desperately need to spend big in other positions.

The only issue is: who would buy Martial, Sancho or VDB? Or better yet who would do that to themselves?

Good signing for them. I would sell Kane and try to bring in someone like Thuram, Hojlund or David.

De Bruyne: 46 g/a
Maddison: 39 g/a
Odegaard: 33 g/a
Fernandes: 32 g/a

Top scoring & assisting attacking midfielders over the last two seasons. Attacking midfield has been a massive hole in their team for about four seasons, so pretty much as good a signing as they can get.

I think he'll do well for Spurs but it's the pressing and defensive work that we're looking at Mount for. Play in similar positions but are different players.

Waiting for all his old tweets dissing spurs / praising arsenal to come out

Maddison, under Rodgers, basically got a free role to roam wherever he wants with very little tactical responsibility. There is no scenario in which I would take Maddison over Mount.

Why have Leicester let him go for so cheap? could have easily got 50m for him..
get the deal done and his wages off the books.

Looks like selling him is getting us the money for Zach Steffan, Connor Coady, Harry Winks and Joel Piroe. And that's before we sell people like Castagne, Barnes and Ndidi

I reckon he'll be kissing the cock on his debut.
