I saw the stat on whoscored, also backed by this video. 8 assists from corners and 1 from free kick in all competitions.

8 assists from corners is amazing at any level. I hope the lad breaks through here this season.

This is what I've been saying for years. He isn't good enough under pressure to play for us.

Sigh. We'll need to be patient with him. He has some very good qualities but whenever he's appeared for the first team, he looks like he just reverts to playing in a shell and is scared to try anything.

Played 75 minutes today but honestly don't remember him doing a single thing

I'm the opposite. He's not good enough and never was going to be. We need to cash in on players who still have value. Like I said with Donny who will go for peanuts eventually when we could've recouped some of his fee when people still rated him.

I agree with your general statement ... I'm not sure if Garner "is never going to be good enough", he's rated really highly for a reason and some players really just take time to get there. Also his style of player generally takes longer to kick on IMO. I just want to see a lot more mentally from him. He doesn't try anything, he doesn't even bother showing any of the talent that he has when he plays in the first team. Can't succeed at this level with that attitude.

Sell, stop over hyping our players and get whatever we can when stock is high..

him, Brandon Williams, Elanga, Shortie, chong etc … get whatever we can!!

I've watched him for years. I'm confident he won't be good enough. He is too weak under pressure, and that isn't just about him adjusting to senior football. He's never looked good under pressure in any level I've seen him play.

This pretty much nails it for me. I like Garner. He definitely has something, but you've got to have balls to play here and take your chances when you get them.

He didn't do anything wrong today, a solid 6 or 7 performance, but when you witness the likes of Garnacho, Iqbal & Laird go out and express themselves the way they have today its clear who people are going to be talking about tomorrow

Yeah. We have a lot of midfielders and are chasing FdJ. If he wants to make it here, he simply has to be trying stuff and trying to assert himself. He was "present" today. Literally don't remember a single touch of his. You're not going to make it at a high level like that.

Iqbal right from his first friendly he showed some bite and was showing his talent on the ball. You see it with him right away. Garner didn't play more than a 5 yard pass all game.

Never asserts himself, asking for the ball and running play. Its always the same with him

It wasn't his game today. Peripheral.

At the moment Zidane looks a more polished confident player. Which is strange considering one has spent a season out on loan and the other is a total novice. But that's how it appears.

I do. He did some good things, and if we decided we needed some protection behind De Jong then he'd be best placed for that IMO, but i don't think we will amd that makes him sort of redundant in this squad.

Who knows. I wouldn't be all that surprised in Ten Hag decided he wants him around, but perhaps another loan then a sale is most likely

Had that one careless touch leading to an opponent attack in the first half, other than that he was fine. Didnt make too many adventurous passes, but did make a couple of good defensive interceptions coming back

He’s a really good footballer is Garner. A manager’s dream sort of player, particularly when you look at the role he played at Forest last year. Reliable as they come. Here comes the but…

He needs to assert himself more in games. Top level midfielders get on the ball a lot. Garner just doesn’t do this and it’s my nagging issue with him. You look at Iqbal when he comes on and he’s involved immediately: gets it and keeps it moving.

As it stands, we’re in no position to move on any deep lying midfielders given the club’s inability to bring one in, so Garner is going to have to assert himself when given chances, otherwise he won’t get too many of them.

He is another player that falls into the category of not good enough for us but will get us good money. We need to act decisively with his next moves ahead, let’s hope we send him on loan and play in the PL for the season ahead, if things go well we should easily get £25m+ next summer.

What do people expect from a DM? It is a role where good positioning and simple effecient passing can take you a long way. We overhype these kids based on desire for them to be good and then are shocked when they are not fully fledged professionals immediately.

He’s not the answer at this level.

Seems scared to receive the ball or play progressive passes, which are pretty fundamental traits for his position.

Iqbal is ahead in both areas.

We were not progressing the ball through the midfield and its because he is a bit too passive. Hopefully he grows in confidence, but it seems like his style to me. On the edge of the game alot

Enough with the hype, Garner isnt the solution. He is forest level in the championship.

He was but Eriksen and Donny deserted the midfield areas too often, they really were not working as a trio.

He looks like he had a good reading of the game and can make good passes between the lines IF he is on the ball with the pitch in front of him.

Back to goal and in small pockets, doesn't look as comfortable as Iqbal.

I will give him a pass as it was a hard game to play. Valladolid pressed really well in the first half and we had two roaming 8s in DVB and Eriksen.

The difference between him & Iqbal is clear as day. Garner are in that group of not good enough along with Laird, Pellistri, Chong, Williams, Elanga, Shoretire etc. Only Garnacho & Iqbal worth giving opportunities.

I don't have any particular dislike for Garner but I think, we need to look at the matter as objectively as possible. He is a decent player and I have no doubts, he can be a successfull PL footballer but I don't see him reach this level with us. Way too much pressure. And if the pressure gets to him in a match against Vallecano, then a PL game for us will be hell. Let him go on a season loan to a decent PL side or sell him with a fair buyback option, let him develope and see where it goes. But currently, it wouldn't be doing anything good to keep him with us, as he isn't ready.
And yeah, the midfield didn't work particularly well today but ETH kept it like that. So maybe it was closer to what he wants than expected.

That was really disappointing. I wanted him to do well in the hope that we'd have a good midfielder to rely on this season as we're short of quality there.

I can't think of a single positive or progressive pass he played today. We have enough grafters off the ball and he did that well enough but his on ball quality is far below the necessary level to play that deeper midfield position.

He's definitely not the answer in breaking up the Mcfred midfield. We should loan him out again with the intention of selling him.

What I did like about his performance was the defensive work. Good blocks and covering passing lanes, covering defenders. Was clearly rusty on the ball, as was Eriksen.

Yeah, you could see the lack of assertiveness when he was endlessly rolling the ball back and forth with Ronaldo. That was crying out for him to take a chance and try a creative pass.

Also a good microcosm of why Ronaldo’s Uber alpha presence can be detrimental to the team as a whole…

Which was the case in his loan with Forrest though tbf he can play a decent long ball forward.
