What's even more embarrassing is Sancho is already on a pandemic bundle he's only 20 million more than Maguire ! Dortmund sold Dembele for a much higher fee despite not impacting the Dortmund team to the same extent as Jadon. Sancho is 28 million more. Maguire went for 80 and Sancho is 108 million.

Also Dembele went for £95-97 million with the rest being addons. Dortmund don't want to do addons for Sancho. Some of the addons for Dembele are due to appearances, he's only played 51 times which is just 10 million euro over 3 years, it's reported to be 5 million euro every 25 appearances. With these addons you get a lot of time to spread the payment and Barca had a huge payday from Neymar. United as nearly everyone else has been hit with the covid pandemic and have no sales of thier own yet

yeah, i don't get it. We briefed walking away from Dybala. At the VERY LEAST, where are all the "leaks" from our second/third choice signings? Why is no other player entourage or club leaking that we are going for them? Why is it radio silence? Do you think it's turning into a "Sancho-or-Bust" window? I just don't see how we go all the way to the end of the window and then turn around and go "here is our new signing....a rotation winger from Bournemouth". It certainly does not fit with Ole's comments about signings. However making one singular huge signing and nothing else still fits with Ole's comments.

For me, the silence means sancho-or-bust is likely. But I could easily look like a bigger prat than i am and we brief today that we moved on

I don’t know if we would, if you think of us now as an Instagram model or Kardashian it suits us to be talked about, have countless stories written about us so we can go to investors and say look at our social media profile or interactions. We are the most spoken about or clicked on sports team or entities in the world.

That will generate cash somewhere and what’s going to garner more clicks on the United brand than people looking for info on a deal for one of the highest rated footballers in the world.

It dragging out probably suits the buisness model plus even if we are in for him and a deal is close, I would think we’d pick a week where there isn’t much happening to garner maximum publicity and clicks.

I don’t think comparing transfer fees pre and post Covid is reasonable. 108m is a huge amount of money with clubs having no match day income, Dortmund will suffer from this more than anyone due to their higher dependence on gate money.

Spending 100m on a single player is just too much of a risk, its not like anyone else is rushing to pay it, let the contract run down for a year and reevaluate.

Sancho deal looks to be dead mostly given there is no seemly new information that we may be waiting for. We don't have any big player to sell anymore and we have already got rid of Sanchez wages. And Dortmund look comfortable retaining him this season, whatever hopeful muppets want.

My speculation is that the club thought Sancho was in the bag (based on Ole declaring before the season ended that he would be bringing competition for our front 3) and they will have entire summer to get 1-2 players more for backup. With the unexpected result in Sancho negotiations, they have gone back to drawing board to devise a completely new strategy. Current radio silence is due to the club reconsidering its options. My guess is we would sweat and get 1-2 players by the end of the window by the end of it.

I think the reality is that we aren't that rich as a club. Having to account to shareholders makes it difficult to justify taking risks especially in a pandemic. We need someone to buy the club and take it private if we want to buy with impunity, FFP being satisfied of course.

If we're actually not that rich, we could be in a state of mediocrity for a long time, because I can't see us building a top side of a small budget. Being intelligent and efficient in the market just isnt something we do. Our transfer dealings have as much subtlety as I do when playing PES master league.

Its been almost 2/3 weeks since that public stunt from Dortmund how long does it take to create a "new strategy" or "reconsider options" for fecks sake then? They could swing signing Sancho, keeping Pogba, reminding us that Bruno Fernandes was an early Summer Signing, promoting some young players (Laird, Menji, Garner), getting some players back from loan (Henderson, Smalling) and back from injury (Tuanzebe) as a good Summer if it comes off.

Who said we are competent? We should ideally have got the sense of price Sancho would like to go for, and atleast created a backup strategy in case it doesn't work out. But rather than the big club we are, we continue to act like novices in the transfer market. Although since Ole has come, we have certainly got better at selling players.

He is full of hot air, he has made promises to fans alot of times, but to make false promises to the manager is pure negligence IMO.

I think most fans would be relatively happy with Sancho and then selling 3/4 players and then buying 1/2 cheaper players for the squad.

Which makes the notion that we might be able to negotiate down the fee, even more ridiculous. The player has sufficient time left on his deal to ensure he at least holds his value until next summer. Dortmund are therefore under no pressure to sell and consequently will have no inclination to reduce their asking price.

If we can't afford that asking price, then we should move on to other targets. Continuing in this limbo is a waste of time.

i agree with everything you've said. if we aint going to pay the 120 million and we are going "Sancho-or-Bust" the fury is going to be immense and every headline is going to be "Board don't trust ole". Again, we could both look like mugs if we brief today/tomorrow that it's no Sancho deal and we'll look at XYZ....however, if we are already looking at X/Y/Z, where is all the noise? You think so? Wasn't it already quite uncommon and considered "bad manners" by United that Dortmund demanded an intermediary/agent in those negotiations? That sounds like Dortmund was pissed from the beginning and United even more so after that move by the BVB. The vehemence of Dortmund's statement that Sancho is going to stay was also quite surprising. Maybe the past dealings (Haaland/Raiola snatch, Mkhitaryan/Raiola antics, etc.) also strained the relationships between both clubs.

If we walk away now, it's dreadful business from our point of view. Wasted a lot of time and resources looking at this deal if we walk, instead of looking at other potential options. Our board is letting Ole down. It's so frustratingly clear we need players, yet we're wasting most of the transfer window faffing around.
