Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

There's a vast difference between what you're saying in the two posts.

I know finances are down for every club but I dont know why that should bother selling club. If they rate him at 120 million then they shouldn't give any Corona discount (that's actually hilarious phrase btw), like some clearance sale discount.

It's not Dortmund or Leicester's problem that there are clubs who want their players. If club's finances are bad then they should look at affordable players.
Going by all the reports, they don't want to sell the player and they would be very much happy to retain him. They will sell only if player wants to leave. They are not actively looking for buyers. Same for Havertz and Leverkusen, Chilwell and Leicester. So in these cases, covid discount doesn't make sense.

On the other hand, clubs who are looking to offload players like us with Sanchez, or Smalling, Or Barca with shit loads of deadwood players then selling for smaller fee makes sense as clubs are actively looking for buyers.

This is Sancho thread so it's obvious I'm talking about the scenario where clubs are not actively looking to sell players.

Covid or not, when clubs tries to offload their deadwood, they will always sell for lower fee.

I really don't get how people are so infuriated we're not dropping 120m like it's nothing. You have to be able to afford the transfer in every scenario. Would any of you bet your mortgage/life savings that if Sancho comes we get top 4? No, because you can't afford to lose that. If we spend money we potentially can't afford, we're going to be in the shit. If we can't afford him, it is what it is.

So the question is, would you want the club to wait on Sancho for next season if we can't strike a deal with BVB or sign someone else for the role in question?

Personally i'd sign either Dembele or Chiesa which might even allow us to sign a midfielder and a CB.

It was written as a general statement about clubs selling during the covid situation.

No point waiting as there will be other clubs who will be in for him next season. Everything changes very quickly in football, we can't bank on player to join us after a year.

What if we don't make CL next season? then surely he won't join. Maybe a loan deal for Dembele with enough clauses to turn into permanent one if Barca can accept to those conditions.

No it wasn't. It was in Sancho thread and the very next sentence was about Dortmund. Whole post was about clubs who want to retain players but there are clubs who want their players.

I would like to see Ed 1) cough up the required amount for Sancho, 2) focus on shifting Jones, Smalling, Lingard, Rojo, Pereira, Mata on and recoup say, 30m. 3) Use the 30m + any pre-existing amount towards structuring a deal for Jack Grealish.

Will finances be better next season?

I'm definitely on board the Dembele train if truth be told. I was always a big fan.

4. Sell Bailly and Smalling to pay for Upemecano

It does seem to have gone a little bit Sneijder-y. Where it just eventually fizzled out to nothing. It's the least confident i've been that he's coming.

Will finances be better next season?
That's impossible to answer. Personally i'm hoping we abandon the chase soon if we feel the price is too high and focus on either Dembele or Chiesa who are both available according to reports.

Your initial sentence is as generic as it gets.

That's all well and good but leaves us with 6 players out (well, 5, not counting Smalling, I guess) and 2 in, to an already pretty thin squad that we can no longer rest players for in Europe. We had to use almost all of those players (bar Smalling and Rojo obviously) last season at points and when Ole didn't, we were fecking knackered. Rebuilding a team is a process and I doubt we will move them all on in one year.

You are not worried about his injuries? Or maybe you think about Robben and believe that we could strike gold?

I remember 2009, I was a big fan of Robben but was very conflicted and even with hindsight I still believe that I would have been on the cautious side of things.

I think this one is as good as dead in the water, unfortunately. I feel the pandemic has hit our budgets harder than most feel on here, especially as each month that goes by we're losing even more money. It frustrates me to say that because I've wanted Sancho here since last summer, I just feel Dortmund are going to drag their heels in and get the exact amount they want and we can't afford that this summer.

I personally think BVB are going to be surprised how no one is going to spend the money their asking next season either. If Liverpool won't spend 30m euros on Thiago, then clubs without any sugar daddies are going to be extremely cautious in their spending.

I'd gamble on Dembele or Chiesa for half the price as well.

I am, but I'm also kind of convinced Barca have mismanaged him completely, judging from the shit show they find themselves in.

What is there so long to talk about? Either we tell them we can afford to pay for him or we walk. Unless they are intentionally dragging the talks to allow them to get a replacement in first which we probably have no problems with

Yeah, good point. Would be worth keeping 1 or 2. The likes of Jones and Pereira for example I think can really be moved on as they barely feature.

I hope Ed has the sanity to walk away and focus on other targets if it’s clear we can’t meet their demands.

The muppet inside me has hope that if talks are ongoing there is potential/hope that something can be agreed.

I'm 100% sure that they mismanaged him, in fact an article from Mundodeportivo had a "source" say that this time they don't want to rush him back in order to avoid a relapse, he was supposed to be fit enough for Napoli. My reaction was, "so you knowingly rushed him back multiple times?". It could be a false source but Mundodeportivo are a lot more trustworty than Sport when it comes to these things, they are Barcelona's mouthpiece.
Now the question is whether it created long term damages?

I don't understand why this is still a big topic. Dortmund have stated several times that there will not be any deal this summer so for me this is done for now.
The British press and the pundits also just ignore the statements by Dortmund and keep going on about it. Ridiculous.

Jones, Rojo, and Pereira, yeah. Would love to get rid of Lingard but probably won't happen. Mata I still think can contribute if used sparingly.

ideally we'd need a CB on top of Sancho and Graelish, too, though. Personally I'd just bring Smalling back but it looks like that won't happen.

There will be a deal if United pay what they want, 120M euros

Rishing him back is sort of common practice isn't it, not sure about long term impacts but I have read this multiple times that player was rushed back. Most common examples are Kane, Torres and apparently Owen. IIRC Bale used to do the same too when he had injury problems.

For a club like Barca that would be poor decision as they have enough resources to fill his position without rushing him back.

The injuries are a worry of course but he's a player that is so exciting to watch in full flow that I would hope we take a chance due to his immense potential. He's still only 23 too and still so much to unlock in his repertoire. I think he would thrive alongside Pogba and Martial. We could potentially loan him from Barca too.

Yeah, that is always going to be the worry. With a properly measured and progressive physical therapy progamme over the time he's been out, there shouldn't be any problems. There could be doubts as to a) that they've done that properly and b) if he's stuck to it. I think we could find out both in a medical or sit down quite easily when discussing a transfer.

Because United have not come out and said it's over. There are clearly talks ongoing and until someone Reputable on Twitter says we are moving on, This will continue to be discussed . It looks unlikely but who Knows

6 players of which only 3 featured to any noticeable degree. Those 3 lingard Peirera Mata can be replaced by 2 top players who we would be less reluctant to use. I'd keep Mata and get rid of rest and use other squad players like TFM. We won't be worse off given the semi useful ones are being replaced.

Because Dortmund's senior management are perennial liars, who have played this card on multiple occasions in the past. They might well be genuine now, but it's a case of the boy who cried wolf now. Why should we beleive them?
