Jack Rodwell | Sold to City

Why? just becuase they scored a goal against us. Maybe we should have a thread that is just for players who score against us and then we can try and sign them.

Maybe we could offer Anderson, Hargreaves or Gibson as a sweetner in the deal for Rodwell! Paul Pogba also has the potentia to be as good if not better than Rodwell one day so maybe Fergie feels he is OK in that department!
But getting an English player that can be the best for many years is always a huge asset in the squad to have as they usually stick around when other clubs come calling with more money as is with Rooney for example!

And Gosling?

Nobody said Gosling

I mentioned their prices, they're both highly rated and before these goals were scored I rated them highly and im sure Moyes did as well... Both posess a good amount of potential and current skill (Gosling is the Liverpool-killer) and I don't see Moyes sending them off for cheap.

Now, where did I say we should get them because they scored? I don't remember saying that...

Swap deals rarely go through these days in football. Every team just wants straight up cash for their player. We always think we can offer players but in reality it never happens. Although I have to admit that swap deals would be nice if it happens.

Considering that we have spent 30m on a 27 year old striker who had hardly set OT on fire, I wouldn't mind if we buy Gosling and Rodwell for lets say 30-35m. The two boys have a great future and they had been trained in England (so they fit in the trained locally criteria set by UEFA/FA). They can also cover multiple roles.

What does Gosling have that any of our other Youth/reserve team players don't?

The figures you throw around for players who haven't yet established themselves in Everton's 1st team are really quite absurd

We have spent a potential 12m fee for a player who has played just 9 EPL matches so the fees are pretty much fair. Gosling impressed me both against us and against other clubs as well. If he is as good as he portrayed himself to be so far then he would prove a good signing for us.

And how do we raise that 35 million? And even if we did have the money through player sales, we'd most likely have to spend most of it replacing the player we sold. So while it would be great to have Rodwell on our books and Gosling isnt bad either, this summer seems an unlikely time for us to spunk that kind of money on a midfielder who doesnt specialise in attack and/or a right midfielder when we have Valencia and Nani.

Fine, but 30-35 million for both??? It does not represent good value in the current climate when you consider SAF felt we were priced out of the market for Benzema .

Gosling does not impress more than a load of other juniors. Nor is it an area that we need to strengthen. Defence( long term) is.

If you believe SAF then we still have around 50m to spend. Now my point is this. Next year, new FA regulations will kick in which means that clubs have to trim their side and rely more on players who had come out from the English academy.

a) the old guard won't last forever
b) Rodwell and Gosling are good talent that fit the criteria set by the FA
c) they can play in multiple position
d) their favorite side is not Real Madrid
e) English talent will cost a bomb in few years time (the big clubs will be contending the best talent on the market)

then it wouldn't be a bad idea to get them in now. Now if SAF doesn't have the money or he doesn't rate the kids then that would be a different story.

I rated Rodwell 20m and Gosling 15m. Considering the new FA rules, the age of the players, the talent and the inflated market I think that's a fair fee to pay. Gosling and Rodwell can play both in defense and central midfield. They may not be as versatile as Hargreaves is (right wing, central midfield, right back and treatment room favorite) but they would give us alot of options.

I d rather spend 25-30M on one person - his name is David Silva.

Gosling's never looked good enough.

That's my impression as well.

The problem is Everton are now in a much better position to hold on to these players than they were five years ago. They can pretty much offer European football every year (let's wait and see what happens in the run-in, but they could still make it if they keep winning like they do now), the core of their team is City aside probably the best in the Premier League and as far as I know they do not need to sell any players based on the finances alone.
Where do we get the money from?

He seems to be getting better and better, United really ought to sign him in the summer. That was a nice finish for his goal today, created a lot through him to. Some of the football Everton played today was stunning.

just saw the highlights from the everton game .. not an indicator of his overall game , but certainly was involved , got into good positions and score a goal

strong too .. lifted donovan with ease ..
that after arteta struggled to get pienaar off the ground

He's played as a centre back, defensive midfielder, pretty orthodox centre mid, attacking midfielder...so it's not really worth guessing yet.

Here is food for thought.

Assuming we have Smalling and Evans as our future CBs, Rodwell will primarily be bought(if) for the midfield to partner Fletcher.

Would you rather we get Rodwell or Gourcouff, given that we have an option between either?

Preferably some knowledge from people who have actually seen both play.

Where would Pogba fit into that one with Rodwell and Fletcher if Evans and Smalling are at the back in a couple of years considering Pogba is looking like has it all to break into our first team as soon as he is ready and might be there to stay when he gets there for some years?
Do you see him as an attacking midfielder? Its hard to tell really
Maybe this......?
------Pogba----Fletcher-------
----------Rodwell--------------

You could tell he wasn't your average player in his first appearance for the first team.

Can see Fergie going after him this summer, ticks all the right boxes.
Will be expensive though.

Tough question that. If Rodwell becomes as good as we think he could, I'd pick him. Because he is English and we'll need to increase our British core.

As it stands now though, Gourcuff wins hands down.

Looks to have a bit of real class about him, I'd be delighted if he signed over the summer

In fact I wouldn't have a problem at all if he was our only signing in the summer what with Smalling's arrival as well

Pogba ? He's still a kid
