Jack Rodwell | Sold to City

Sky Sports have picked this up. They reckon we've had an £8m + addons bid accepted and the only thing left is to agree personal terms.

Rodwell will be joining us immediately.

YEsssssssSSSSSS

I've got Talksport on

Had it on all afternoon, and H+J always invite people to text in any rumours they like, so I wouldn't read much into this at all, the only thing is that they've been taken aback by the fact that they've had so many variations on the Rodwell rumour

Cheers for the info, I have never listened to talksport and didn't knew that they created news stories on the basis of rumors sent by random people.

More chance of Apes taking over the world and enslaving mankind.

They're just doing it as a bit of fun, not something to be taken seriously at all.

Apparently Rodwell's been spotted actually parachuting into Old Trafford in full United kit. Hasn't landed yet ...

though on a more serious note, it does seem that madrid might not be happy with his performances so far...if he keeps on like this for the rest of the season and another one, he could be sold for a cut price in summer 2011. probably back to milan i imagine.

IMO he wanted a new challenge. If REAL fails he will head to England.

Bump. Well someone had to do it.

He scored a good goal. Very calm and composed on the ball. Looks special for an 18 year old.

He is versatile too. He can play as a defensive midfielder and as a central defender. This lad is one for the future. I would have preferred us to get Rodwell instead of Smalling. Rodwell is overall a better player and the only thing Smalling has a little advantage is his height.

Rodwell I think would have been more expensive then Smalling.

Nothing special about his goal.Evans was just dead from a stamina POV

Well it is not because of this goal that we should sign him but because of his performances over the past two seasons. Like I said before, he is versatile and can play in defensive mid or in central defense. He will definitely cost a lot but I think he will be worth the money.

I personally don't think right now is the time to spend over £10M on a 18 year old prospect. When we clearly need strengthening in other departments.

He is a better prospect. Which one of them turns out to be the better player is yet to be seen.

Well Rodwell(18) has achieved more at a younger age than Smalling(20). He has played more PL games and has played for England U-21 more times than Smalling. Rodwell even captained the England U-16 team. They are pretty much the same height as well. Smalling has about two inches on Rodwell.

£60m summer spending spree, please.

------------Rooney-----------------
Dinho------------------------Valencia
--------Fletcher--Hamsik------------
------------Rodwell-----------------
Evra-----Vidic------Rio-----Maicon
---------------VDS-----------------

Now that's a team good enough to contend for the league.

What are you talking about? We can hit two birds with the same stone. He can play in both midfield and defense. And he is only going to get better from here on in. The area that needs enforcements is the striker position and we aren't going to get anybody unless we sell a striker.

Took his goal well but Evans made it easy for him. Its not like he really had to shift it out of his feet to beat him. The finish looked fantastic though, not a bad way to score your first league goal.

He's clearly better than Smalling right now and in multiple positions. But thats why we didn't pay £30 million for Smalling and perhaps why we paid what we did for him before next season where he should really make his mark.

Rodwell will most likely make Rooney's fee look a small one with the way transfer fees are at the moment. I'd imagine the only way we'd be able to afford that and still work on our more troublesome areas of the squad is if we sold Anderson and Gibson (not one or the other, but both). That part is unlikely too.

Smalling was playing non-league football and finishing his education before committing fully. It's a bit silly to compare them on those grounds as they're two different situations.

His goal whilst well taken was pretty much gift wrapped for him! Evans christ knows what he was doing (well apart from nothing in particular) just let him stroll past him....hideous defending, summed up Evans today mind.

Whilst clearly a talented young footballer i dont think hes worth us splashing out 20 million plus for him at this stage which is what it would cost to make Everton part with him, dont think hes worth that at the moment probably best for him and us if he just stayed and developed his game at Everton, not to mention the fact i dont think were in the position to randomly splash out such money when there are other areas of the squad that need more urgent attention.

Listening to Moyes this morning it will be very hard to pry him away from Everton.

The money potentially involved with the moving of these 2 could be astronomical, I said this before the goals and i'll say it after... 20 million I bet for Rodwell, 15-20 for Gosling.
