Jack Rodwell | Sold to City

because there is a line in his wiki page that says he may become a top class centre back...

if he has good fm stats at centre back that will be enough to convince some on here that it MUST be true... add a you tube clip of him playing at centre back for his school team or summat and you will probably start getting threads saying we should swap him for rio and vidic... if he changes his name to rodwellino people on here would want to stick another 20 million on the fee...

Coming from the lad who decides whether a player's good on the basis of achievements, many of which are irrelevant, that's pretty ironic.

we will not sign david villa-IMO, DZEKO WOULD BE NICE but he is angling for milan move based on his quotes today.

Haven't seen too much of him, but from what I've heard he sounds like a very promising player? He's quite a tall lad as well isn't he? Could bring some much needed height into our team. What players would you compare him with?

I think Dzeko would be a good addition for us, theoretically. He'd be the biggest ariel threat in the side, and he's partnered up well with a variety of strikers; Martins, Misimovic, Grafite etc. His touch and finishing would also be great in terms of passing football, so he'd be a good link in the side. He looked good at Old Trafford, too, and he's a 'proven' striker now.

We've got Welbeck and Macheda coming through though, so I'm not sure whether bringing in another striker would be stifling the development of a few of the younger lads; but I'd be in favour of getting Dzeko if it was possible.

If the comments made today are accurate though, it looks pretty cut and dry that he's off to Milan. He seems to have simply said he wants to leave. If it doesn't happen, though, I'd like to think we'd keep tabs on him.

(Sorry if I'm taking the Rodwell thread off topic here)

He was good last season.

He's been very good this season.

And Song can be, not is.

Was Song good last season? Their biggest weakness all season was the centre of midfield and occasional defensive slip ups. They didn't even come close to challenging for the title which, with their squad, is a piss poor season. Song's lack of quality was a big reason for that, along with Denilson, IMO of course.

I reckon Rooney would thrive playing upfront with Dzeko, but I don't want a player whose mind is set on another club

For those of you that have seen Rodwell play, who'd you compare him with?

Hard to say. I've only seen him a few times. He's a big lad. He struts about the field with alot of confidence. Passes the ball well and isn't afraid to have a pop at goal from long-range. Seems decent in the tackle as well and is quite physical. People have said he could be a top centre-half but I haven't seen this. More of a Roy Keane or Michael Ballack type to me. Haven't seen enough yet though.

Denilson was used as a dm which he isn't and was used there at the start of the season in a 442. Song made that role his at arsenal in the latter part of the season and arsenal did very well thanks to arshavin too of course. Now arsenal play 433 with song in the dm role and they've been fine this season.

I'd be a fan of buying Dzeko. I think he is ascertainable as well. Villa probably is too, but at a huge price. Rooney could play in his natural position then. Plus I'd guess that Dzeko would score a lot more goals than Berbatov.

They won over half of their games with Song in their team, and lost only an eighth.

Song wasn't the problem. Denilson was, IMO of course.

Song's been alright for a long while, at centre back and centre mid, but he stepped it up last season and he's stepped it up even further this season.

By "over half", are you talking about approximately one in two?

That's a shite win percentage for a team of Arsenal's quality.

He was compared to Ferdinand, as a ball playing CB

I reckon this could be the position he ends up playing, here's something he said on it

England Under-21 star Jack Rodwell hopes to eventually emulate Rio Ferdinand. Rodwell played in a defensive midfield role for England Under-21s against Germany on Monday but has been tipped to drop back into defence, just as Ferdinand did at West Ham United at the start of his career. "I have heard the comparisons," Rodwell said. "It's brilliant to be compared with such a player as Rio Ferdinand. I try to base it on my own game. I do like to play out from the back, so that's probably why they have played me in midfield because I am comfortable on the ball. I have started to play in midfield and I believe that Rio did the same when he was younger and then moved back to centre-half. I am not sure what will happen with me but I look up to him."

He's been one of our two most consistently good players this season along with Gallas.

And yet, it's better than their overall record.

Song wasn't the problem.

Fabregas has had a few OK/poor games, RvP took about 5 to get going in his new role, Vermaelen has been excellent but not as good as Gallas, who with Song has been very good every time out.

bump!

If we're getting Smalling - where does this leave us in our potential pursuit of this kid?

He needs time to develop. From what i've seen, he's still very raw. They'll hang onto him until one of the top4 clubs come sniffing and thats when the transfer fight starts.

I think Rodwell will be too expensive for our liking. I am not saying SAF does not have the funds as he said he has, but I am saying value for money, he will be too much.

Isn't Rodwell a midfielder?

I think that's where Moyes sees his future, as when Everton had all those defensive injuries, he played players out of position rather than ever giving Rodwell a game in defence.

Don't know but I'd rater we got this guy. He's got the air of a future United great

He does have the looks, will bring the ladies (Sorry ladies but it is a fact. Ronaldo brought about 15 female friends to watch United games with me).
People underestimate the importance of having good looking, clean cut players in the team. Boost shirt sales and star appeal. (Forgive for the gayness).
Maybe, SAF is waiting to see what will become of Hargo as well, but I want us to get all the bright future British talents. Then add about 3 Brazilians, a German keeper and we are set

Where did he say that?

He thinks Rodwell's a bit special, yet he thinks Smalling isn't.

That'd be perfectly reasonable if Smalling had played enough for anyone to know how good he is!

But Smalling just seems a bit average, eh?

:wenger:

No. I've seen Smalling play. I've also seen Rodwell play. Both are good. Rodwell is better. The use of 'I' in the sentence indicates it's my personal preference, not an assumption of the 'averageness' of Smalling. Not too difficult to fathom.
