Jack Rodwell | Sold to City

I don't rate him as high as other's do. I watch a lot of Everton because my best mate is a fan. I think Anderson is a better player at the moment, and has more potential as well. Anderson bossed Rodwell at Old Trafford last year.

Cleverley is promising but people are going way overboard...

We need a world class CM... at lease one...

How do you know? Maybe this is the season Anderson steps up? You just don't know. Giggs was a passenger against Barcelona but is good most weeks. You say Cleverly is promising....but the fact is Scholes was promising when we put him in the team..and we left him in the team because of his ability/mentality and look what we got. It don't always work out but if the signs are good, we should go with it.

I really don't care what price he may or may not cost, I was just explaining why he's so highly rated. He's a very talented footballer. At least that's the impression I've got almost every time I've seen him play.

Funny you should mention Cleverley, he got left out of the Wigan starting XI a fair few time last season. Which just goes to show how it's possible to be a real talent and still end up on the bench if the manager prefers to go with more experienced players in tough PL games. He's a couple of years older than Rodwell too.

Yeah, my point really was that I've not seen signs of that real quality which you'd need as a CM in a top side. He looks a decent footballer, that's about it. So I see where people are coming from when they're asking why he's highly rated. In my book it's a sign of being really highly rated if there's speculation about United paying 25 million quid for you.

Someone like Darron Gibson's showed as much in terms of talent and oomph-factor, if you get what I mean, and he's not excactly highly rated on these boards. For me, Rodwell is sort of like Henderson. Decent, young, english footballer who I don't see really offering too much in a good side, and I can't really see where the improvements are going to come, and that it will be enough to take them to the level required.

Anderson's three years older but yes, he is the better player right now.

At the age of 20, Anderson had shown so, so much more promise and endlessly more potential than Rodwell. He's going to be twice the player Rodwell will ever be, and you can quote me on that. ;)

I only entered this thread to explain why Rodwell is so highly rated, I don't really want to get into a willy-waving contest about whether or not he's better than X, Y or Z.

He's a centreback who can play as an attacking midfielder or an attacking midfielder who can play as centreback.

Strangely enough that doesn't seem to mean that he is a very good defensive midfielder.

I don't think he's an attacking midfield player. At the minute he seems to be a bit box to box but I think he should be used as a deep lying central midfield player. Similar to the role Carrick plays.

I don't see him as an out and out defensive midfield player (Makelele) but 1 capable of shielding the back 4 whilst being able to bring the ball up field, start attacks and even get a few goals.

I think Pogue makes a good point about his age. He seems to have been around for ages so it can be easy to forget he is just 20. Especially when you make the Cleverley comparison.

Also, Everton have quite a few midfield players so it's not like he'll have an easy time breaking into the team.

Reckon we have a winner:

Now I like this player and want him at United. Not often I stretch to a comment like that.

He hasnt played that much since he scored against us & most of my Toffee mates dont rate him as highly as other fans do, he cant get in their team nevermind gettin into ours..

Looks like a decent player, but given that he's Engrish - his hype is increased :wenger:

I'd go with this, haven't seen enough of him to give a proper opinion and that's probably because he hardly ever plays.

His hype's not increased as far as I'm concerned, couldn't give a toss what nationality he is. Don't judge a player on either of those two things and I don't play Football Manager either.

As for the opinions of Toffees fans.....well some of theirs will be like some of ours.....if he doesn't score twice in a match he's shite.

If we signed him we could theoretically field an entirely British team, apart from the goalie.

Smalling - Jones - Rodwell - Evans
Cleverley - Fletcher - Carrick - Young
Welbeck - Rooney

Not that that's a very good reason for signing him, he's always feckin injured.

We can field Amos and make it an all Brit XI.

EDIT : Baldwin, you bastard.

We could field an entirely British team currently, just with Rio instead of Rodwell (who I don't believe has played a single Premier League game at centre back anyway).

Saw him against QPR. As usual, looked almost good at everything he did, but ultimately just didn't have enough.

To be fair to him he's not a right winger but judging from purely the MOTD highlights he seemed to be involved quite a lot.

I saw the match, it was clear that he wasn't being played in the right position tbf. I think if we want to buy Rodwell, this is the right time. His price will be low as compared as to one year ago, and it's clear that he's a talented lad.

Played out of position and doesnt do well must mean he is shite.

The bits I have seen from him and taking into account he has a lot of hype I think at the right price he could be a very good signing for us. Looks to have a lot of good attributes and you could see him improve loads playing around far better players

So when will Everton turn things around this season ? I mean they always wait until they know they are out of it - but round 10 ?

I thought he did well, considering he's not a right winger and he's still only 19.

I think he undoubtedly is a highly talented player who can effectively be turned into anything in terms of CM that a manager wants him to be which is why I beleive the rumours about us still being interested.

For me he is effectively the same type of player as Smalling only not in defence(which he can play) but CM. They are both great young athlete's with good sound technique in all areas. In much the same way that I beleive Smalling is good enough to play anywhere across the back 4 if nessesary and may even at a stretch be able to play emergency DM, I also beleive that Jack should in theory be able to play anywhere across the midfield although both are of course more at home centrally within their respective positions.

I'd be happy for us to make a sneaky attempt to sign him before the deadline as I honestly beleive that he has it in him to be a top draw player, although i'd shy away from the hyperbole posting on this forum from some posters when he first came through at Everton.

Only quotes are about the Arteta transfer....

Also, when I saw this thread 2 things ran through my mind.

1) Injured.
2) Signing in January.
