Jack Rodwell | Sold to City

Thats not what a lot of people on here were saying at the time :)

At £16 million it was a great deal - because he looks like he's ready to really step up to the next level based on current performances.

Will be a key player for us for definate.

Well I'm no expert but when you consider that Pastore signed for PSG for 40m+ then Young is a bargain at 16m.

Indeed - not all English players are over priced.

I think all players who are on a long contract, at a rich stable club and has the potential to become WC players are overpriced.

It's actually gotten to the stage now where fans write a players career off as finished before the player is even old enough to have a career yet.

I reckon we're keeping an eye on him. We'd probably only decide whether to make a move atm if someone else did first and forced our hand. We seem to do that quite a lot with young players who'd carry a fairly big fee, which makes sense so long as the player's value isn't skyrocketing in the meantime.

Actually reports in Italy that Pastore cost only 22 million, the rest of that 18 million went to the very dubious third party ownership / agent nexus that surrounds some of these south american player and the dodgy owners of PSG.

It's a transfer. In these lean times, anything is enough to get the muppet juices flowing, even an appearance in a meaningless England friendly

I think he's very good, not sure where he fits in at United, but if he worked with Cleverley we could have an incredible English midfield.

You seem to be forgetting our best player there....

Plus I couldn't fit him in other than on the left and then I'd have to deal with all the best player out of position bs and it would detract from the team.

All these team of the futures change all the time, few years ago it was pique and evans in defence etc

Seems to have rediscovered the form that got him noticed, I thought he played well in his two recent England outings. I'm sure come the summer we'll be linked with him again if he keeps the form going.

Is he a goalgetter from midfield or a Keano-esque personality? The one player whom I really haven't paid much attention to.

Neither. he's not a goalgetter at all and there arent really many keanoesque players in the world atm.

he's primarily a defence minded midfielder who can also make those late runs into the box actually. good talent but needs some luck with injuries.

Rodwell would be an absolute star here, will become a better version of Carrick.

I dont see why people kept saying he would be a player to fit into the defence as a CB. Id like to see us get him and Fergie to help develop him though.

I think it was mainly because David Moyes said he thought he'd drop back into centre back later in his career (Moyes has always favoured experience in his defence which is likely part of the reason he didn't play there at all) and because he played most of his youth career there.

Fair enough. He does look really good in a defensive midfield. Ive said it before but for England id like to see a three of Rodwell, Cleverley and Wilshere.

One for the future definitely but i want him to prove himself at everton first on a consistent basis. the lad needs luck with injuries too. dont want us to spend the 25mil that it'd cost to bring him here now tbh. wont really solve our problems atm in CM.

Andre Villas-Boas has identified Jack Rodwell as the first major brick in rebuilding his Chelsea team and is confident he will land the Everton midfielder next month.

The Chelsea manager needs to add youth as well as quality to his ageing side and, Sportsmail understands, he sees the 20-year-old England international as a key part of the process.
