Jack Rodwell | Sold to City

instead of Wellbeck, would it be Brown and a loan deal for either Macheda or Diouf?

Wellbeck looks a solid bet for one of 4 strikers for us.
1) He has heard Moyes wants Gibson

2) And he reckons "Gibson to Everton" is one of the reasons that the "Brown/Gibson/O`Shea to Sunderland" transfer is collapsed, Sunderland will sign Craig Gardner.

Gibson + 10 million.. No more.

How reliable is this source in comparison with your source at Villa and the source who told you De Gea's medical was today?
1) Aston Villa guy, he knows everything - MON sacking, Bent signing, Houllier heart problems, McLeish, Dunne`s alcohol problems, ......)
2) Everton guy, i acutally hate him but he knows his stuff about the Everton transfers
3) De Gea medical

We are definitely not going to sign two central midfielders this summer.
We will sign two 100%!!!!!!!!

Rodwell is no better than what we currently have in midfield and thats saying something, i wouldn't be against his signing along with a proper ready made high class midfield player that we so desperately need but if hes the midfield signing of the summer i will be very disappointed, we surely cant let ANOTHER summer go by and ignore the blatant inadequacies in our central midfield.

i agree completely with that statement.

if true, then i don't know whether to be excited or disappointed with this news actually..1 year ago he was suppose to be england's future midfield general, and now he is not even in england u-21 starting eleven ( i blame pearce for that though)...

but if fergei sees something in this kid, better make a move now, as his value has certainly decrease by a few millions. Like Sittingbull said above, anything less than 10m with maybe brown or gibson as part of the exchange, or maybe around 10m in cash alone at the very most, is fine..

i agree with the part that rodwell will not improve our midfield straight away, although with sir alex's record of turning young players into world beaters, i will not be surprise at all if that happens with rodwell too. but again, this might take another year or two to happen.

but with scholes retiring, i just think we need someone who is a top class midfielder as an immediate replacement. even if scholes continues for another season, we all still believe that we actually need to make a top class signing in midfield this summer.

if we do really sign rodwell, i hope we are still going to get a top class proven midfielder as well.

Follows the recurring theme of young English talent being bought if true, a player I'd love at United to be honest, remains to be seen if we're interested... I had thought the Rodwell to United ship had sailed.

i hope you are right..

the positive thing is that you were right with young and de gea so it is a good thing to hear this from you.:)
This "We will sign two 100%" is just my opinion. But i think we need two new signings for the CM this season................
- We`ve Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson + Giggs at the moment for the CM, Gibson will leave the club.
- We`re playing in 20-30% of our games with three CM`s, our luck with injures isn`t positive and Giggs isn`t in the squad in every game.
- Tunnicliffe, Pogba or Morrison aren`t ready for the 1st team yet, if one or two of this lads are ready for the 1st team then at least two of the current midfielders are gone.
......................I think Rodwell has massive potential and he will be a future star of Manchester United.

But of course we need someone like Modric or Sneijder or Nasri or Thiago too.

I'll take him; but not for more than 15 mil.
But I actually thought Fellaini was a better bet - plus his contract hasn't much left on it if I'm not mistaken.

And I really think we need a creative midfielder too - If Giggsys out and Carrick has the form switch turned off at some point in the season, we'll be left with no one who can pass the ball and dictate play. (I'm not sure about Anderson because sadly, he's injured half the time and inconsistent the rest)

That is, unless, the idea is to move Rooney into an advanced midfield role in front of two deeper midfielders.

We need a quality playmaker. Neither Rodwell nor Felliani can cover that role. Rodwell is also a bit injury prone and I wouldn't like to end up getting another Hargreaves.

I get the feeling that the Henderson for £20 million deal ensures Rodwell wont be leaving for a reasonable price for his current ability. He's got some class on the ball and good potential but we dont need him unless we have cash to burn... Or perhaps another club is getting close to signing him and we dont want to miss out as with Jones.

Not that we have many "deeper midfielders" to choose from... Either way a new CM is a must - preferably an attacking one.

ITK guy from Everton FC

I`m not a WUM and i would`n post lies about something like a transfer, just look through the "Ashley Young thread".......my informations were 100% correct about this whole transfer because of my informations from a ITK guy from Aston Villa.
I love this. Some how gives the post more authenticity.

I believe in your informations, Sean_RedDevil :)

Happy to take Rodwell while he is gettable and (hopefully) relatively cheap.

No way will this be our main CM signing of the season though.

We will sign two 100%!!!!!!!!

Come on, MoN was never fired, he resigned and everyone could see it coming. Bent was clear several days earlier when the bid was launched. Houllier has had heart problems for about ten years. Mcleish was clear as day as soon as he resigned and Dunne's alcohol problems started 2 bleeding years ago!

De Gea's medical was first posted on here by me in the twitter speculation thread too.

Was never quite sold on Rodwell.. Letsee how this turns out.. I remember reading that it was a done deal over a month ago with Brown heading in the opposite direction..

If I were making this deal I would send Welbeck on a season long loan and Sell them Brown & Gibson (keep a 1st refusal/buy-back clause on Gibson) + say around 5-12 Mil including the add-ons..

The same Jack Rodwell that couldn't displace Henderson from the U-21's starting line up? No thanks, i've never seen what the hype surrounding both Henderson and Rodwell was about. Maybe i'm wrong but they both appear to be decent at best players, who have been hyped up due to their nationality.

Hmmm....I think you are on a roll today!

Rodwell is still very young and would definitely improve playing for us. I wouldn't be against this transfer if only he won't be our only CM recruit this summer.

Yeah, to be honest he was definitely on our radar, and I thought we would try and get him eventually but that we were going to leave him to develop for a further year at Everton like we wanted to do with Jones. He had a bit of a stop-start season.

Won't be surprised if we sign him though. Would be fairly happy with it too.

As someone else also said, I did actually think we would be making a serious move for Fellaini though - I could see that one happening.

Call me cynical, but I think if Rodwell got a big money move he would get back into the U21 starting line-up straight away, and possibly get a senior call-up soon after. I really do think that the press have that much of an influence on the England set-up, and if you are flavour of the month and at a top club you will be in with a better chance of being picked.

Rodwell's always looked a class above Henderson to me. In fact, he's looked a class above most other young footballers in the Premier League.

He's coming off the back of a severely injury-interrupted season - with the poor form you'd expect in that context - then took that form with him to the U-21s but he's a very very talented young footballer. Don't let one poor season mislead you.

Are you doubting the informations?

Rodwell and Nasri on top of the other three and my muppet pecker will be contented for at least 3-4 transfer windows

How can you use a team managed by Stuart Pearce as a gauge for anything?

What you should probably consider is that top clubs have had their eye on Rodwell since he first kicked a ball in the PL just as they did with Smalling, Ramsey and the like. This surely gives an indication of the player's perceived playing potential and class.

It takes all of a minute to see the gulf in quality between Rodwell and Henderson.

Frankly, Rodwell has all the tools to become a frightening midfield prospect and the aim for any bidding club would surely be to get in there and purchase him before he puts his game together or has a defining season.

Rodwell mightn't be ready for a club of United's stature immediately, but with the correct application and coaching, there's nothing to say he couldn't have the same meteoric rise as Smalling did over the course of last season. They're easily in the same clase as naturally talented footballers.

Obviously we missed out on that French lad, Rodwell can play defence too so while i'm hmm...it would make sense and not entirely rule out another midfield. However is he better then what we have coming through? Only time will tell. I wouldn't say he's a frightening prospect at all....he has ALOT to prove...

Don't make a promise you cannot fulfill :) 3-4 years is a hell lot of time in football. I'd be over the moon with the signings you mentioned, but I've no doubt that next year the squad may need a little bit tinkering here and there, it's only normal.

I thought Rodwell played well in the game against Ukraine and was surprised he was subbed and then dropped.

He has all the tools to be a complete player but he hasn't kicked on like I expected.

Yet.

I think he's more bothered by who "broke" these stories first. Which seems to really matter to certain caftards. Can't get my head round that mentality myself. It's a Twitter thing.

On the contrary, the first part was me pointing out how he "broke" news that is in Houllier's heart story almost as old as this site and in Dunne's alcoholism case was reported at least 2 years ago (December 11th 1886: Richard Dunne ).

As for the latter I actually got it a bit wrong, but he posted that he was having a medical while it was already being largely speculated.

Rodwell, for under 15m in todays market would be very good business. He may have had an indifferent season but he struggled with injuries and Everton on a whole were poor for a large part of the season. Rodwell is a very good prospect and one that would develop to his full potential should he come to Old Trafford.

In my view he is at least on the same level as Gibson if not ahead of him (currently) but with a much higher potential for the future.

Odds are, we've had our eye on him for at least the last 3-5 years, probably longer.

With our current midfield situation (retirements, sales etc) it wouldn't be unreasonable to conclude that moving for him now would be the wise thing to do.

Off the back of a very average season his value should be quite a bit lower now than it was a year ago, not to mention Everton's limbo, which should enable us to lower the price a little bit more..

Rodwell looks like one of those talents who'd be better served getting his football education with better players. It wouldn't surprise me to see him kick on loads in short amount of time if he came here.

Would be the perfect replacement for Gibson IMO. A good bit younger and with a much higher ceiling. Probably the perfect time to make a bid too, now that his stock has dipped after a difficult season.
