Jack Rodwell | Sold to City

We should be in for him.

Imagine if Ramsey and Bale where English, with Rodwell and Wilshere.

But they are not, which is shite.

He's a wee bit injury prone no? Hopefully just growing pains...

Looks to be a very decent player though. Certainly high on Fergusons wishlist I imagine.

He has played a number of games on the right, and has mostly looked ordinary.

I don't get the hype around Henderson, he's an ordinary young English overhyped player, worth £10m maximum.

I saw nothing at all in Smalling when we signed him, but he has been proving me completely wrong. I'll be happy to go with Fergie's judgemnt on Henderson's potential - it obviously won't be a 'punt' like Bebe/Obertan and a few others.

Rodwell looks obviously the better player to me.

He is that rare combination (for United) of the right position, English, talented and gettable.

I would rather see Henderson have one more year of regular football before makign a move as there is potential there but I dont think it is as high as that of Rodwell. We should bust a gut to snap him up in the summer.

I think he must be.

Watching the 2 it's like comparing a Rolls Royce to a decent Volvo.
He does a Beckham job for them at times. But his natural role is easily down the middle.
Sack the Henderson vs Rodwell debate! Let's buy both!

I am a bit sceptical to the idea of spending £30m+(?) on Rodwell yes. First of all, he is no Rolls Royce, Wayne Rooney is/was more of a Rolls Royce, you could see that he would turn out brilliantly since day one. Rodwell probably has a great potential, he is a great ballwinner, header, reads the game exceptionally well for a 19 year old, and seems to be a ok passer. But it is not like he is a wonder kid like Rooney, potential is there, but its also a chance that he will disappoint. I believe he is more talented as a defensive midfielder than as a attacking one, and we have Fletcher there - we can use O'Shea, Anderson is decent and Carrick reads the game very well. Our defense is brilliant, its the attacking midfield that needs the immediate improvements.

Again, we are a lot weaker in the attacking midfielder section, our two best playmakers are currently Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes. They are legends, great players but also a problem. Despite being still being great, neither of them are where they once were as footballers. Ryan Giggs is the best left winger ever! Scholes is one of the best playmakers I have ever seen - but the fact that our best attacking midfielders next to Nani are at the age of 37 and 36 years old is not a ideal situation for the future. Jordan Henderson is as I see it a very versatile player. He can go right, but as Red Indian Chief Torn Rubber "natural role" is in the middle. A strong box to box midfielder, with both defensive and attacking skills with a hell of a stamina. I love versitile players, especially when they are young - that means it is easier finding them playing time - because no role in a football side needs experience more than the midfielders. I want to sign him as fast as possible, because as Solskjaer always said: you can learn a lot from the players next to you - and Henderson can learn a lot from Giggs and Scholes. Henderson and Cleverley back in, I think we will have bolstered our midfield rather good this summer.

I am with marrakoosh in buying both in the long term. I think Jordan Henderson should arrive first if Ferguson opt to go for him, he would be a excellent signing this summer. Personally I would wait a bit with Rodwell... He has had a lot of injuries since his debut 2 years ago. Is that due to bad luck or does he have a bad injury prone? We should know that before we make our move, we have Fletcher, and plenty of time before we add him - he will be very expensive anyway, regardless if we sign this summer or wait a year or two.

Sharky; its no guarantee that Rodwell will turn out the better midfielder because he is best today, both of them are years away from their peak. And let me add at the end, that we are probably talking different prices too. Henderson will probably be available under or around £20m, while I suspect Rodwell will be over £30m.

I don't agree at all.

Rodwell always looks like he has time on the ball. Henderson looks a much more typical English player, full of energy and hustle.

Rodwell is a rarity and Ferguson seems to recognise this.

For example Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard has been carried a long way do to that engergy and hustle. Jordan Henderson reminds me a lot of a young Frank Lampard.

I think Englands future is rather bright on central midfield, Wilshere, Rodwell, Henderson. It would not surprise me if Tom Cleverley ends up the best of the lot.

I like Cleverly but he's not done anything to look like he is better than those three.

Cleverley has looked at home playing for mediocre sides. O'Shea looked like an incarnation of Zidane when he played for the reserves a few weeks back. We'll have to reserve judgement until we see Cleverley in a United shirt.

God, I hope we don't buy Henderson. Rodwell on the other hand looks a potential world beater, he has a face of a winner, while Henderson's looks like a retarded Casey Affleck.

Yes. Rodwell is definitely the way to go. We should let Carrick go the other way. Carrick has definitely peaked in a United shirt.

Moyes wants Rodwell to shine

Everton boss David Moyes is hopeful that Jack Rodwell can fulfil his talent to step into a first-team spot on a regular basis.

The talented 19-year-old is highly regarded as an England star for the future and one of the Premier League's best young players.

Despite his billing and rumoured interest from Manchester United and Real Madrid, Rodwell has yet to establish himself as a consistent starter for the Toffees.

But with Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini out for the rest of the season, Moyes feels that now is the time for the versatile Rodwell to step up his game and begin to become more of a key figure.

"Jack will play and he will get opportunities," said the Toffees boss.

"He will get his chance. He has maybe got a little bit of that 'too nice' about him. With age he will get tougher

"There have been signs of Jack coming back and realising he's not just a boy now. He's a man and if you're in the team you have to play like a man as well.

"This season has maybe given him a realisation that it's not all easy, it's hard.

"I think that because of the ability the boy has got, and the fact that he is always in the spotlight because of his talent, now he has to show his ability on the field.

"He has as much potential as anyone in the country, he really has."

He has a great chance now Fellaini is out. Hopefully he can stay away from injuries and we can see what he's really made of.

whispers on Twitter that Rodwell to United is a done deal for the summer at 25million.

Far too much for him imo, especially as he won't solve the creativity issue in midfild; we'll still need to spend fairly big on another midfielder even if we do sign Rodwell.

Id be delighted personally, not 100% sure about where he'll end up as a player but there is a touch of class about him. Really like his attitude aswell. I think he'd handle the step up v well.

I agree with this, although I see him very much as a central midfielder, I think he'd be wasted at centre back.

He has not shown enough progress in the past two years. He was exciting in 2009, but he has done very little since then. He would be 5th choice if brought in. I don't understand why we keep getting linked with this player.

Probably true but I think he'll be well able to cover if required. Would have liked to see him with a full season's experience at premiership level but I've seen enough to date to think he's a United player in waiting. He has that natural confidence about him. Leadership potential there as well.

Taking away thoughts of the fee, and I agree with you.

Personally, I think he will be a player like Essien. Combative midfielder, defensive edge to him. Drive for box to box.

My issue is that at 25million I feel it would drastically reduce the chances of us signing a player to fix the creative problem in midfield (which imo we have, and is very important to fix). Also have to remember we are likely to spend a good bit on a keeper.

Unless we actually have a 'warchest', if we sign Rodwell at that type of price (unless a large part is made up of appearance/trophy bonuses) I can't see us signing anyone else apart from a keeper, and I really don't think that will be enough.

Same, one technically very good goal against us apart he's shown very very little. On the rare occasion he's fit he still doesn't get into the Everton team so do we want A- another crock in midfield and B- someone deemed not good enough to break into Evertons midfield?

I'd leave him where he is at the moment especially if he's going to cost 25m let him develop there and if he becomes a first team regular at Everton and starts pulling up trees then go and get him (his value will never be more than 30m IMO)

In regard to the fee Mitch I think United will always have to pay above the odds for any young english player. Way of the world unfortunatly. It wouldnt put me off in the slightest. But I agree if the fee was to infringe on any other potential transfers this place would probably explode!!!

Gonna be good to see what he can do with a number of injures to the Everton midfield Rodwell will get a chance.
