Jack Rodwell | Sold to City

I think Rodwell has a great future but I hope he wouldn't be the only addition to midfield if this is true.

I thought he would become excellent in 2009. However, he has made no progress since then. I am shocked and disturbed by the number of posters who seem to think he would improve our First XI.

I've thought similarly at times, to be honest. The potential he's shown pre-09' doesn't just go away though, and I do believe he showed excellent potential and is the type of player right up Sir Alex's street.

I do think his progression's stagnated a bit though, for reasons beyond injuries, and you have to wonder why. Maybe that so much variation in the roles he's played (out wide, holding midfield, box-to-box, attacking midfielder) has been a big factor in it though - he doesn't know which strengths to play to and his best role.

"No secret Man Utd want Rodwell. Been tracking him for 18months+. Summer deal will suit all parties. £20m or player plus cash deal"

From David McDonnell of the Daily Mirror (arf!)

Rooney's uncle told me Rodwell will be making the move to United at the end of the season. Make of that what you will.

Gibson and Brown? Swap deals don't really happen much. Or outside chance... Hargreaves? Same sort of pay as you play deal they did for Saha. Maybe Gibson + Hargreaves? Or Owen + Hargreaves? Few options there.

But I'd guess Everton want money money money

Fletch is box to box and hard tackling. I'd harldy call him a "Keane type player". Keano was immense and was about so much more than just hard work and strong in the tackle.

Keane was special in the way he made everyone around him perform better - and the way he read the game. His positioning was near perfect.

Fletcher as you say is different - more mobile, but nowhere near as good at positioning and reading the game. Fletcher is more irritating for the opposition in the way he hassles the opponents. Keane didn't irritate - he flattened

I have been a big fan of Rodwell from the start. Would be great news to see him in a United shirt next season. He has massive potential and has the skills and pace to adapt to a more defensive or a more attacking midfield role!

He's talented, young, athletic, versatile, English, and a local lad. He'd be a mainstay for the squad for a decade.

Free transfer at the end of the season anyway.

The Glazers would love him too as he would sell shit loads of shirts in Asia too seem as he is a bit of a David Beckham in the looks department!!

Agreed, and a move to Utd for him, should he maintain his development, has been a fairly open secret for a while.

He looks like a great prospect. £20 million seems a bit steep though...unless we're Manchester City.

Reminds me of a young Gerrard as he has everything to his game to be either a great holding midfielder or even a great attacking midfielder!!!

No we haven't sold anyone for £50m

Yes we have.

Everton aren't going to hold out for top dollar considering they are in need for the funds to stay alive.

We Sold Ronaldo in January????:smirk:

We'd run away with numero 19 already if we had Ronaldo for the first half of the season :)

Anyway, let's not make it a Ronaldo thread. My point is that every man and his dog know that we haven't spent much of the Ronaldo cash sale, and there is a pretty big warchest being banded about this summer, so let's see how that'd turn out.

The fabled 'warchest'.

Everton will slap a 40 mil price tag on him and nobody will be able to afford him (apart from Chelsea and City)
