Jack Rodwell | Sold to City

The fabled 'warchest'.

Everton will slap a 40 mil price tag on him and nobody will be able to afford him (apart from Chelsea and City)

Everton might have to sell. If that's the case then he'll go for considerably less than £40mil.

Obviously interest from City would push the price up but i'd be surprised if he would choose City over United. He's more chance of getting games with us as City have more options in centre mid.

I'm thinking Chelsea's return as a big spender might be more significant than City who already have 67 midfielders

Maybe. I'd be surprised if they spunked loads in midfield though. They desperately needed extra bodies at the back and front. They're OK in midfield.

Rodwell is the real deal. he has barley played in the last 2 seasons because of injuries. I think that this is the reason for his lack of progress.

Also at everton they play him to far forward. Yes he can do a job there but it is not his position. He obviously has talent but the big + has to be his pace and build.

Id be delighted if we signed him

I'm gettig pissed at City now. If he signed there, it would ruin his career. He won't. He's got one foot in at United.

Is he any good? I'd say he simply hasn't played enough games in the last two years to say one way or the other.

Game time is no way a tell tale of a footballers potential. A glimpse at your squad proves some of the players purchased were hardly household names or played at a high level. Smalling hardly played any games before being courted by a host of Premiership teams.

Yeah but you can't spend £30M on a player who's supposed to be playing in the PL but hasn't actually shown very much in two years

He has looked very good on occasion tbf.

But 15m would be quite a premium on Ramsay for example who I think has showed more by this stage (albeit not in the Premiership).

Would love him at Arsenal, he could be a squad player to have playing with/for Song. A young midfield of Rodwell, Song, Nasri, Rasmay, Wilshere and Fabregas would be a massive.

Well it's yet to be seen how Frimpong will recover from his knee injury... And despite Coquelin being highly touted, I haven't heard tell of how he's been playing over at Lorient.

TBF to Coqulein. Even if his loan proves a disaster, from what we saw of him here, IMO he has the game to succeed in England. Then there is Ramsey. I'd say you are well stocked.

United won't pay 30M...

15 Million max I would say.

Never ever underestimate our capability to throw money around. The fact that he is English alone adds at least £10 mil to whatever we are going to pay.

Haven't seen enough of him to make a judgement. The hype was crazy at one point, though. The standard "£30 million" was being thrown around.

I understand that but do we wait around till he becomes genuinely good/great before he's completely outpriced? I don't think 30m is the price he'd go for now but nearer 20-22m.

We have made mistakes before in not going for certain players, I'd like to think we won't with Rodwell

I think you misunderstand me, I am just saying that I have not seen enough of him to form an opinion. If the club decide to buy him I trust their judgement.

I agree that he won't go for anywhere near £30 million. £15-£20 million sounds about right.

But he has all the tools to be a top notch holding player. He is actually more defensively adept and gritty than Wilshere who currently occupies the role.

Not sure I agree on that. Certainly I see Rodwell as the best potential hoding midfielder from those three.

Ramsay is compact but he doesn't strike me as someone who would shield the back four effectively.

He is an excellent game reader and he has grit. 2 of the best things needed for the role. Before Wilshere's emergence in the deeper role I was cetain he was set to be Song's long term partner in the holding role. Beside, when Wenger feels he has potentially excellent players in his youth in a position he wont buy. His refusal to sign a keeper is proof.

Ramsey's always looked to me as Fabregas's natural replacement, a more advanced midfielder. That was how he was playing before his injury last season anyway.

Ramsey is not going to be anywhere near as good as Fabregas, so it is fine by me if that is who they replace Cesc with especially now.

Not sure about that, he was looking extremely good before he was broken.

The thing is it surely will if nothing more he has lost a lot of time early in his career, hopefully a young player like that can come back from it, he does at least have youth on his side, but such a severe injury is going to affect him in the long run to some degree.

I am a bit worried about using all those money he is going to cost at a person with his injury history the past couple of years, we should wait a couple of years to see if he stays healthy or if he has a bad injury prone. I'd hate "another Owen Hargreaves".

I'd rather see Jordan Henderson coming in if we are to sign someone English, but personally I feel that we might have to go abroad this summer in order to get someone good enough. I hope Cleverley can make a impact.

Yeah I think you are the only one who would want Henderson over Rodwell.
