Jack Rodwell | Sold to City

Another uninspiring performance. Everton were under the kosh all game but again Rodwell failed to impress. He seems to amble around the midfield without making a particular area his own.

I just don't see it.

Is it just me who hasn't actually seen him do very much to make him as highly rated as he is? Lovely touch and finish against you lot, and that's about it. Not saying he won't be a good player, I just can't see what the fuss is all about.

I appreciate his injury, but it stems from before it. Obviously he's so young, he's clearly worth giving a chance to. I just haven't seen a lot yet, or even glimmers really.

He's physically and technically very well rounded and he had a calmness and composure to him you don't see in many 17 year olds.

There is way too much insanity on this forum. Rooney,Ronaldo, Rafael, Nani and Anderson were all written off as not good enough before they were even given a chance. Of course Rodwell is not going to dominate games yet. How you would judge him is by his performances for Englang U21 where he has gotten a couple of man of the match awards along with seeing glimpes of his ability at Everton here and there. He has already scored one or two crackers for Everton and it will be 2 or 3 years before he is really ready for the Premier League but I think he is going to be a top top central midfielder for many years.

Rodwell played well defensively tonight, but I'm still not convinced.

McEachran, though, is special.

I'm sure its just a typo, but he's 20 in March

'twas in reply to alastair's question about where the hype originated from.

He's progressing slowly, and he's not a player who's going to make a standout contribution in a game (nor should he be expected to be imposing dominance on a midfield at the age of 19), so I'm not surprised people are questioning it the hype but if you saw his first few games you'd understand why people were so impressed by him.

I'm not doubting he's going to go on and become a steady midfield player but I just don't think he's going to go on and become a top quality midfield player.

I still think the kid has great potential hes just come back from injury give him time.

How good is this McEachran I heard Patrick Barclay raving about him the other morning Iv not seen much of him.

I would much rather see Cleverly in the side as a midfielder over Rodwell. And we're sorted on the CB front (assuming Evans recaptures his form from last season).

I just don't see the hype over Rodwell.

He has been hurt and hasnt had the greatest year, nor have Everton though, so I think that is part of the reason great reviews on him this year have been few and far between

The question is he good enough?

I've seen him a few times and he has never impressed me that much..

So how has he been doing?

The hype has settled a bit.

Was injured at the start of the season, had a few uninspiring games when he returned and has gone back to the bench in the last few games.

Not a good season for him so far.

Still think he'd be a great buy. Much rather him than Henderson.

I'd take him at the right price, his quiet season could work in our favor if he is still in SAFs cross hairs

Jack Rodwell faces three months out after ankle ligament damage sidelines Everton starlet

Everton midfielder and England hopeful Jack Rodwell has been ruled out for up to three months with damaged ankle ligaments.

The £25million-rated teenager injured the ankle in a challenge by Stephen Warnock as Everton lost 1-0 at Aston Villa a week last Sunday, but the club could not get a definitive prognosis until yesterday due to swelling of the joint.

The news will be a blow to manager David Moyes and England manager Fabio Capello, who was considering calling up the 19-year-old ahead of next month’s European qualifier against Montenegro.

Yet the verdict is better than Everton first feared, having lost Marouane Fellaini for five months to a similar injury last season.

Rodwell signed a five-year deal in the summer amid interest from Manchester United, who face Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday.

To be fair he has been out for a relatively long period of time. I, however, remain unconvinced by him.

I'd still take him having watched allot of him over the last 2 years. I know he has had an average if not poor few months after the injury which people seem to be basing the opinions that time.

The lad clearly has potential, both Holding MF or as most people recall he could adopt a CB role..

Last season before his injury, he took his chance and almost claimed a regular position in that Everton side, his defensive capabilities were pretty good and he also did pretty well in attack too.

The hype certainly wasn't made up, if you had the chance to watch the lad 10 matches up you can see why he is highly rated.

Coming back from a very bad injury usually takes time ( Unless you are a Ronaldo ) he has lost his sharpness a bit, but I'm sure he still would be a great signing if we are looking for a player with huge potential in a box-to-box role ( More defensive manner though ).

Still think he'd be a great buy. Much rather him than Henderson.

We have players with better potential in the reserves than Henderson. He has been nothing but ordinary since his England debut.

He seems a little injury Prone and obviously there are still a lot of Doubters for the lad. I think that considering he hasn't broken into the national team yet even, I certainly wouldn't put him in a higher bracket (potential wise) than the likes of anderson.

Just once now I would rather we went for an established, proven player rather than investing purely in youth. If scholes and giggs are retiring then we need immediate replacements, not players who might come good in 3 or 4 years - we already havE those players in abundance

The thing with Rodwell whenever I see him play in midfield is he always seems lost on the field. It's as if he does not decide fast enough what position to take up, or whether to close the ball down. Then he gets the ball, and he plays a short 5 yard pass. Really nothing special.

After seeing Everton beating the shite out of Chelsea ( Unlucky to draw ) I observed Jack really well.

He was playing very high up the pitch, almost box-to-box if you like. His matureness on the ball was excellent, rarely gave the ball away and boy is he big for a young lad.

This is probably the first match I've seen him play so high upfield, I know he came and did it against us scoring that goal but usually he would be more of a holding MF and he did really well.

Everton's MF were great, Arteta + Fellaini + Rodwell got the better of Chelsea, and boy did Ramires save them denying Saha a wonderful effort.

The commentators were commenting that he has all the attributes to be one of the best CB's in the world... Saying that it is normal for a MF to develop then revert back to a CB.

I don't agree though as he is doing a great job in MF, could be a possible option but I like his energy and it might be wasted if you drop him off to CB imo.
