Jack Rodwell | Sold to City

Anyone else hear that Manchester police have reported a wave of suicides across the city today? One guy apparently was found by his parents naked on his bed after overdosing on sleeping pills. He had his cock in his hand and an article about Jack Rodwell on his computer screen. More news to follow on the following link - www.bbc.co.uk/football/tragicfan

It's ok I didn't die - the BBC really should ammend the article to say 'attempted suicide'

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was seriously considering a deadline day bid for Everton youngster Jack Rodwell.

The Manchester Evening News says Paul Scholes' early season form convinced Ferguson to scrap plans for a deadline day swoop for Everton starlet Rodwell.

The Reds had been tipped to make a last minute offer for Rodwell, with Fergie a known admirer of the versatile 19-year-old.

But Scholes, who has rolled back the years with a series of superb displays, forced the United manager into a rethink.

impressive

Because Rodwell and Scholes style are similar. Makes sense. SAF also considered a bid for Bale but VDS early season form looks fantastic.

VDS is a bit more defensive and uses his right leg better...

Yup, VDS doesn't usually romp up the left wing as much as Bale either. Much to his detriment, I must admit.

Jack Rodwell faces three months out after ankle ligament damage sidelines Everton starlet

Everton midfielder and England hopeful Jack Rodwell has been ruled out for up to three months with damaged ankle ligaments.

The £25million-rated teenager injured the ankle in a challenge by Stephen Warnock as Everton lost 1-0 at Aston Villa a week last Sunday, but the club could not get a definitive prognosis until yesterday due to swelling of the joint.

The news will be a blow to manager David Moyes and England manager Fabio Capello, who was considering calling up the 19-year-old ahead of next month’s European qualifier against Montenegro.

Yet the verdict is better than Everton first feared, having lost Marouane Fellaini for five months to a similar injury last season.

Rodwell signed a five-year deal in the summer amid interest from Manchester United, who face Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday.

Bad news for him, hope he recovers quickly.

But at least he won't be running past Evans and banging it in the bottom corner again.

Everton better look after him... we need him in good condition, when he transfers to us

Rodwell does seem very injury prone

It's a little early to say that. I don't know his injury record, but even if he's picked them up over the last couple of years, it may well have something to do with still growing up and his body changing. I remember Gerrard used to pick up tons of injuries when he was his age, but time sorted it out.

The likes of Rafael and Fabio also seem to get injured a lot. Doesn't mean it'll stay that way. Until their bodies full develop and also get used to Premier League demands, it may well change.

Gerrard still seems to pick up a fair amount of knocks, doesnt seem to pick up big injuries ever though

Absolutely nothing compared with the injuries he had back then. Looks more like wear & tear now, but ten years ago he'd pick up injury after injury, with the worst (in terms of result) causing him to miss the 2002 World Cup. But it got much better for the next few years. There were a lot of talk back then that it had something to do with him growing and it proved to be right.

Love the boy, give him time and he will be one of the best players in the country.

How many games has he played in defence for you to have formed this conclusion? He's only 19, how can you classify him with any certainty at this stage of his career.

He also thinks Anderson is a left back, I wouldn't worry about it.

As a youth player, he was a defender.

I don't rate him as a midfielder. Too awkward in possession.

Awkward in possession you say? Thats funny because whats impressed most people about him is the oposite, ie: how assured he is in possession. I'd suggest you watch him a bit more closely, and not judge him on a cameo sub appearance in his first game back in 3 months.

I have always thought he was a defender.

Your preconceptions and bizarre first impressions seem to cloud your judgement on every player you either praise or criticise.

Bizarre? Rodwell played as a defender when he was younger and Moyes has compared him to Ferdinand. I have watched him for the U21's in midfield too and he has looked uncomfortable.

But because I say it, that he is a defender, it automatically means a series of quotes as if I have said something crazy. If I said Messi was a wonderful footballer, this would probably get quoted too.

Lot of things to like about the lad, but do we really need a player like him at the moment?

Also, Everton will probably slap a ridiculously fee on him, so even though he'd be a great addition i'm not sure it's something we need in the next few years.

If you'd said something along the lines of 'I believe his attributes are more suited to defence and i can see him ending up playing there' no-one would have quoted you. But to say 'he's a defender', i was just wondering how you could be so sure based on the few games he's had in his senior career in an entirely different position. You may be right. He could end up as a defender, but its impossible to say with any certainty at this stage.
