Jack Grealish | Man City

He must be one of the most unexciting expensive players ever, imagine that there are actual people who enjoy his football. English Ronaldinho.
Don't ever put his name to the Brazilian god, not even as a joke. Ronaldinho was one of a kind.

Was brilliant at Villa.
At City it's a strange game of stay wide, get it, feint to go one way, pass it backwards or go down.
It's like he's been Van Gaal'd where he's told if you're definitely not going to beat someone don't try, and just hold the ball.

His main role at City is to prevent other PL clubs from getting him where he'd be the main man again.

Fergie would have bought him for sure. I wanted him. Before Bruno, seemed like he'd be a perfect 10.

Now he's a boring cog in a boring machine, but also a very wealthy one with lots of medals.

Would he ever consider swapping blue for red, obviously no way is he worth that £100m

For those who actually watch City, are the claims of diving actually true these days? People used to say it all the time about Grealish at Villa and it was mostly rubbish back then. It's just that he was so good at holding and running with the ball that defenders would ultimately have to make a foul to stop him. In fact he consistently kept his feet and kept going for many of the little nibbles that most players throw themselves to the ground for, which is why he then got so many definite fouls against him as the little things wouldn't work.

I basically don't watch City so not sure if that's still the case or whether Pep has truly turned him into a diver now.

I won't call it diving, but sometimes he could stay on his feet if he wanted. It's not outright flailing legs trying to make contact with the oppositions leg.
There is some contact to justify the fall. But yes he does go down a lot knowing he will get a foul.

Its a shame whats happened to him, the Villa version would have been brilliant for us and had a swagger that we're crying out for, and would have been a main player for us instead of a bit-part in City.

He was another opportunity squandered by us. We should have got him for 60m-70m before he signed a contract extension at Villa. He would have solved the dual purpose for us by being an option for both the LW and at no.10. That would have given Rashford both a rest and kick up the ass that season and would have allowed us to give Bruno breaks. But instead we went for Donny Van de Meek for 40m and the rest is history.

Agree. Some players just go to City to end up being a cog in the machine and like @tenpoless said above, to prevent them from being available to other Premiership clubs. Grealish could still be the main man in a very good Villa team or have had a lot more room to play with us an be a bonafide star.

City are like if you asked an AI to make a football team. They’re the football equivalent of AI artwork.

One of those guys you feel parties a bit too hard. Fear he will go from Poundshop Beckham to full on shook Paul Gascogne some years from now.

It's odd. Last season seemed like he would crack on but almost seems destined now to head elsewhere. Where does he end up, or does he stick around and try and fight for his place?

He isn't good enough to be a key player at Man City consistently. Never has been.

Nothing wrong with that, just the way it is.

He will stay there.

He wasn't at Villa though, Pep hasn't improved him.
Pep has a tendency to stifle mavericks/flair players who aren't named Messi for the sake of his system, as they're more likely to lose the ball. Grealish is one of them.

He does improve them on positional awareness and defensive workrate though.

He’s gonna Dwight Yorke it and be playing for someone further down the table before you know it, due to the partying lifestyle and possibly achieving so much in such a short space of time that it kills his motivation.

I don’t see this. He enjoys to party, sometimes to a problematic level - but it’s still a massive leap to be Gascoigne and fighting demons.

I don't rate him as highly as others but he does seem to pretty much live in the gym.

Don’t understand the comments about his partying lifestyle - I can’t remember anything in-season popping up about him for years, or his fitness ever being in question.

I'm sorry but thats bollix, he doesn't stifle Doku, Foden, KDB, Alvarez.

The fact Grealish is getting the ball and turning back the way is completely on him.

The is the left back who plays behind him and who sometimes plays the entire left flank attacking. The fact Gvaridol has shown to be a better left winger than Jack whilst playing LB is completely on him.
[

It would be weird for Pep to let everyone else be attacking and stifle Jack in particular. The fact a 6 foot whatever CB is more progressive in taking me on, shooting and in his passing than Jack is on Jack.

His per 90 minute stats are shocking. Everything below assists is per game/90 minutes

Great player, too much fun and not enough of a robot for Pep.
Agreed. I loved him at Villa. He would dribble past 3 players and put a cross on a plate for Watkins. Pep has coached that out of him, but hopefully we see that playing style re-emerge at his next club.

He’s obviously won lots of trophies and made a lot of money but it’s a shame how it’s turned out.

In hindsight if we’d took him and Sancho went back to City both parties would have fared a lot better.

300k pw until June 2027, wether Pep stays or goes, i don't think he will move anywhere. He's got PL and UCL medals, he just has to stay put and then find a club for a year or two before retiring.

Remember when some people said he is their most important player?

I mean, he's spend the entire season either being injured or dropped, after he didn't even show up for preseason. And now he is unused sub in FA cup final loss after winning the Champions league. I am not really sure this is a good time to defend his partying lifestyle.

Do you reckon he looks at that villa team and would be tempted to a move back there? Surely he wants to play more than he is at city? Maybe he is happy with the money and trophies.. I would ln

The guy has won unbelievable trophies on 350k a week plus all the other payments he probably gets. I don’t think he minds.

However, it will be interesting to see if he moves this summer. Does he have true ambition to play or is he happy with the trophies and huge wages? I’d love to see him go back to Villa or try his hand abroad.
