Jack Grealish | Man City

You think? He seems to genuinely love football.

I think he did, but he's been relegated to quite a peripheral character since he moved. He has a bit of a party boy lifestyle, I can quite easily see him being comfortable earning a boatload of money with little pressure.

Do you reckon he looks at that villa team and would be tempted to a move back there? Surely he wants to play more than he is at city? Maybe he is happy with the money and trophies.. I would ln

The guy has won unbelievable trophies on 350k a week plus all the other payments he probably gets. I don’t think he minds.

However, it will be interesting to see if he moves this summer. Does he have true ambition to play or is he happy with the trophies and huge wages? I’d love to see him go back to Villa or try his hand abroad.

Im sure he doesnt mind, similar to Gareth Bale, i cant help but wonder if thats enough, being a bit-part player in a top side earning mega money or earn less and be first name on the team sheet. There's no right/wrong answer, i feel like i'd be the latter personally, its a short career and i'd want to be on the pitch as much as i possibly could, and either way you're not going to be short of money.

He played 35 games last season and that includes more than half of the PL games. I'd say that he knew when going there that he would be rotated, similar to Mahrez, and was happy with that as he would earn an abundance of cash and win a few trophies along the way.

I can see him staying another couple of years and then moving on.

He’s a party boy but when he should be. You don’t see that much of him partying during the season, it’s always when it’s over, which is fair game. He is probably one of the footballers with the best physic in football and he looks after himself.

players can let their hair down during their time off, especially when winning things. Doesn’t make him a raging alcoholic like many make him out. Occasional Binge drinker probably fits him better.

I think players now want to look back at their trophy cabinet that’s full of medals, while earning the big bucks. Win win. I don’t think he’ll retire at city though, he’ll move at some point.

Can't believe he's in the England squad and Rashford isn't. Makes no sense.

Still feel this could bite us.
That pace threat off the bench is always worth having even of Rashy hasn't had a strong season.
Bringing Grealish on to get it and pass it back 5 yards isn't any sort of impact.

City would have to foot a huge amount of the wages as barely anyone else could pay anything near that.
And they're not as dense as us to get in that position very often

Feel for him. Easily good enough to be in the squad but he’s become an expensive squad player so I don’t actually think Southgate has done anything wrong leaving him out.

Had less business being in and around the squad than Rashford imo. It’s absolutely the right choice to leave him out applying the same logic.

An out of position Foden or Eze will be more effective in 2024.

Rashford is made for tournament football like this. I really would have kept him in the squad as a difference maker off of the bench.

On a selfish note though I'm kind of happy he's been left out. Needs to go away and get his head straight, figure out what he wants from the rest of his career.

I thought Southgate would at least take him for the Conor Coady role of player called up cause he’s “great with the lads”

Surprised he's not made it with no Rashy in there.

But he can't complain as he's gone from one of the most exciting players in the country with Villa to a mere get it wide, come inside, pass it back to the original passer.
Really disappointing.

Agree with you on both points.

Not taking him feels pretty daft, when you have a whole 26 places to play with. To not even make 33 is a wow.

You've forgotten the bit about falling over to get a free kick.

He won't complain about playing at the highest level, the increased salary, 2 league titles and a CL medal. Agreed with the City fans post his poor performance is on him, not Pep.

Another £100m player who's turned in to a flop, who'd have thunk it...

I'm sorry but thats bollix, he doesn't stifle Doku, Foden, KDB, Alvarez.

The fact Grealish is getting the ball and turning back the way is completely on him.

The is the left back who plays behind him and who sometimes plays the entire left flank attacking. The fact Gvaridol has shown to be a better left winger than Jack whilst playing LB is completely on him.
[

It would be weird for Pep to let everyone else be attacking and stifle Jack in particular. The fact a 6 foot whatever CB is more progressive in taking me on, shooting and in his passing than Jack is on Jack.

His per 90 minute stats are shocking. Everything below assists is per game/90 minutes

My guess is Pep is probably disappointed with him and that's why City brought in Doku. It is hard for City to move him on either as he is also on high wages.

He's been rubbish at City. He can't drible past anyone. He always does the same thing receives the ball then looks at the defender for ten seconds like he's about to do something then passes the ball to the closest player.

I didn't follow him at Villa but surely he must have been much better there for City to spend 100 million to get him. The player he has been at City isn't even worth 20 let alone 100 million.

Grealish was quite the one man show with Villa. He would blow past defenders and score some pretty sweet goals. I don't think his stats were all that great but he had a moment in him every game, and all you need is one more two moments to make the difference between winning and losing. But I never did believe he was a good fit for City and am not surprised to see him fall into irrelevance under Pep.

I always thought he would be a better fit for us under Ole and although I might be wrong about this weren't we heavily linked with Grealish at one point?

He was brilliant at Villa. Top 5 in the league material. Doesn't look close to top 5 in City's own attack now..such a waste.

Watch a lot of Villa because wife is a Villa fan… he was excellent at Villa. Seemed quicker, rode tackles more, knew when to hold the ball or pass. Likeable too.

19/20 : 8 goals and 6 assists
20/21 : 6 goals and 10 assists

At City, he seems to be glued to the touchline because Pep wants to stretch the opposition and (after 850 passes), try and create a small gap. Seems slower, dives when touched or not and keeps passing back. Also a nowty xxxx. 3 goals and 1 assist this season is poor.

22/23 was better t.b.f. with 5 goals and 7 assists but his role is definitely diluted from what he was at Villa. Gone from being a key man enjoying football in a mid team to a robot looking miserable in a top team. Enjoyment vs salary/medals I guess?

What if he didn't take him because he is not really great role model for the boys? Same could be said of Rashford too based on his partying last year.

Doku I think was signed for the right wing to replace Mahrez and Palmer. Grealish early season injuries saw Foden do well on the right and Pep then kinda stuck to Doku on the left.
It's going to be next to impossible to move him on for anything above £50m or so I think.

He clearly has the ability to play at City despite not being a world beater and he tries hard (maybe too hard) but he'll probably get a bit of next season to win his way back into favour or he'll be out on loan to Barca or somewhere (if City aren't booted).

Savio coming in with Doku already here and Foden also able to play on the left could mean a lot of bench time for Jack.

I disagree buddy. He had one excellent yet injury interrupted season that got him his big move.

But aside from that he's the same Jack (before he fell apart this season), he's never had more than 16 goal contributions in a season and he's always been behind the leagues most potent attackers.
For context Eze who is not a top 5 player in the league has 15 goal contributions this season in the league and Olise 16.
Even in the Championship Grealish wasn't productive averaging 10 g+a per season.

He's a quite good solid footballer but was never close to top 5 in the league.

People tend to think of him as some creative machine he never was based on a purple patch at Villa.

I do not understand, why so many people in England see Grealish as a fantastic player. I think, he is very overrated and not much better than our Antony:

Jake Grealish - this season35 games, 3 goals, 4 assists
Antony - this season38 games, 3 goals, 2 assists
