Sumptuous touch that, and great timing on the run from Bacca and the through ball. Having said that, wtf is Pepe doing the whole time?

The lad is class. If we arent interested moyes and his crew need their heads testing. Ripped Madrid a new 1 tonight; how many of our midfielders could do that?

This guy needs to be part of our midfield next season.

I actually think he'd suit our 4-4-1-1 system more than say someone like Kroos, as Rakitic is always willing to dribble with the ball, which is something we lack massively.

Sevilla deserve a lot of credit for their scouting department, they've picked up a lot of gems over the years. Bacca is a terrific pickup in addition to Rakitic - shame Ivan didn't pick the Suisse to play for

Kroos will be too expensive in all likelihood (And draw far more suitors) and Gündoğan remains a question mark regarding his back, I'd like to see Barcelona get in the mix for him. Del Nido had slapped a €40 million clause on him but with a deal that expires in '15, I wonder

Yep as I said previously, he's good enough to be playing for Barcelona or Madrid. I think he's at the same level as Fernandinho (although a much more offensive player obviously) and City paid £34 million for him, I dont see any reason why he'd be a bad signing at the same price point

He strikes me as one of these players that we never get linked with and will never buy despite on the surface at least being perfect for us.

I don't understand how we don't even bother to look at players like Rakitic. (having said that, we don't have a clue who we're looking at)

Read that Barca might go for pjanic, although that's probably just bosnian papers. Not sure if either Rakitic or Pjanic are Barca level, but they're both very similar and both capable of going into any team in the world apart from the 3 really (Barca/Madrid/bayern).

Mind boggles. But I really hope we're after him.

There's been a lot of talk with him being linked to Liverpool in the past few weeks. But Rakitic has come out and distanced himself with the move saying:

It's needless to comment about Atletico because I have a contract with Sevilla and, as I said, I feel good here.

I have great respect for Atletico but for me there is only one club - Sevilla.

Currently there is nothing better than Sevilla and I do not think about anything. The talk about me is nice, but I do not care.

Strikes me as a player who's going to remain loyal. Sevilla chairmen has said:

I see him at Seville next season, he's really comfortable here and the fans love him./quote]

I've followed Rakitic stories/quotes since November and it's always the same stuff. "I'm happy, Sevillas the one club, i'm happy in Spain". tbh, doesn't seem likely he'll move abroad if I'm honest.

Cope - Spanish radio station, often early with transfer stories - are reporting that Rakitic is negotiating with Real Madrid. Which has led to contract discussions with Sevilla being put on hold.

Apparently he's already had an offer from Atletico.

Rakitic is better suited to Ancelotti's 4-3-3 than Isco. Would likely signal his exit I expect (to City perhaps).

As if Real Madrid need him, they've got Khedira, Alonso, Modric, Illarramendi and Casemiro all playing in his position. Greedy Bastards.

Ancelotti expressed interest in Pogba recently too, be interesting anyway not seen so much of Rakitic so I can't comment on him.

Not sure quite where his level is in Europe or how much we will grow being 26, but seems to be some good players available in Europe this year.

The way I see it is, they can/will only get one of either, Pogba, Rakitic, Gundogan or Vidal. Hopefully we'll be able to get one too.

He's running Porto ragged tonight.

Ballague on Revista said that Real Madrid were after him. I think he also said that the agent of Rakitic (or Rakitic himself, I cant remember which) was learning English. I would have thought his agent already knew English considering his position.

Will be one of one Europe's most wanted in the summer, was brilliant tonight. Be interesting to see how well he does in the WC.

Doesn't he play his best when he plays as an attacking midfielder?

He plays fantastic as a cm too, would also love too see signing this guy, developed into a good allrounder, wouldn't be that expensive and probably available and likely to get, while the likes of Kroos, Pogba, Koke, Vidal will be only muppet dreams.

Doesn't he play his best when he plays as an attacking midfielder?

Maybe. He was last season and in the big games he's being used that way now. But earlier in the season he was playing CM fantastically too and it might be nice to have a genuine CM who knows how to play like an AM in the final third when he gets the chance to use the ball there

Actually plenty of other cms have been used in the hole in the big matches, like Toni Kroos at Bayern

I wouldn't say that. From what I've seen he plays equally good in any midfield role, as long as it's in the middle of the park. He's consistently very good as a DM, CM and CAM, and that's the most impressive thing, really.
He definitely should be on our priority list, as we don't have a player like him. He loves making forward passes, often takes risks, makes fantastic through balls and crosses, takes set pieces and shoots from distance. That's six things our midfielders don't do. He's not the one to dictate the tempo, as Carrick (or Kroos) does, nor is his strength to keep the ball when needed, but he's a direct player who gives results, wins games. We haven't had such influence from the midfield in a while.

Exactly, very underrated player. I hope we try to sign him, even if we somehow sign Carvalho and Kroos. He could give us something that these two can't.
