Ivan Rakitic

For the most part it's the agents meeting the clubs and not the actual players like with RVP when he joined us, he got texted by his agent that he has become a Manchester United player while he was away with Arsenal for preseason training. I guess that's Rakitic also out of the window. The number of available quality midfield options are decreasing very fast.

Tbh he was never an option for us. He said he doesn't want to leave Spain.

Jesus, 16M (and only 12M upfront) for a great player. You just wonder how on earth United is still looking, like 3-4 years now, for midfield reinforcement while other clubs just seem to find players and on a very affordable prices. Not a 27M ones.

It's interesting, you really have to wonder how we go about our transfer business these days.

That's a good price for him, was he in the last year of his contract? It'll be interesting to see how often he starts for them.

He had one year left in his contract and a 30m release clause. He had a renewal offer from Sevilla and supposedly contract offers from Atlético, Madrid and a few more.

I think he will get a lot of play time. Cesc was one of the most used players last season and is gone, Xavi will most probably leave for Qatar, Iniesta is getting old and having very irregular seasons. So it's Rakitic, Iniesta, Rafinha and Roberto for two positions in midfield if they don't bring someone else to sub Xavi, which they may do.

Great signing good luck to him. With the hair it'll almost look like Mendieta is playing for Barcelona again

€18 million + 3 million in variables plus the loan of Denis Suarez that includes a buy option at 6 million. The 3 million is basically a block on Sevilla's option which Sevilla would not have any reason not to use should Suarez impress

That is a bloody steal and good business getting rid of Fab and getting him in cheaper!

Good deal. Also the buyback clause thing is a smart idea IMO. We should try it out for some outgoing transfers. That way United could've brought Rossi, Shawcross etc back on the cheap if we were so inclined. Still can't believe we let Villarreal have Forlan for just 4 million.

Barca did some good work to get him for nearly half his buyout clause then. I guess Sevilla felt it was better to get something than just have him for one more season and then let him leave for free.

I hope you're right, this does seem the perfect time for a CM to stake their claim to a starting spot at Barca with the midfield seemingly in transition, it's not often Barca have a non-Spanish CM mainstay these days.

I don't know if there is any buy back clause. It's just a buyout clause which Sevilla can exercise if Suarez impresses.

Err you might be right mate. Although as I understand it Sevilla have a €6 million purchase option after the 2015-16 season with Barcelona retaining a €9 million buy-back option on Suarez.

It's their usual policy and a wise one at that. They've clearly learnt from the Pique, Fabregas, Toral. Miquel episodes and started handing out long term deals with a view to loan fringe/ developing players. If I'm not wrong they had a similar clause for Krkic, dos Santos, Romeu etc and wanted to insert it for Thiago too before it was rejected. Makes a lot of sense infact, they've have spent a lot of time, energy and resources nurturing most of these players. With the inclusion of said clause they can just buy the players back for cheap if the loan goes well and the players progress as expected. I think Real want to insert a similar option for any prospective buyers of Morata and Jese. Something we should consider TBF.

:D

Yeah, they had better not lose out on Suarez in this deal. I think the deal is set up well for everyone involved and believe he'll be back at the club should he progress well at Sevilla

Great presentation video as well

Really glad for Raketa. Its a magnificient thing that we have 2 of our players in 2 of the best clubs in the world right now. El Classico will be even more massive next year for us in Croatia.

He really deserved it with his great games for Sevilla. As I understand opinions of Sevilla fans are mixed, some call him a traitor, some understand why he went to Barca and respect all he has done for the club..

If only we knew how to utilize him in the NT....

I wonder how Barcelona are going to line up next year. I was listening to a podcast that reckon they are moving away from the 433 to a 4231 and that Rakitic will play deep next to Busquets, since they want messi to play off of Suarez.

Keeper
Alves Pique Mascherano Alba
Busquets Rakitic
Iniesta Messi Neymar
Suarez
.

?

One year left on his contract + wanted to stay in spain, nothing we could do.

Its quite frustrating, I agree. I think United tend to want the exact right player to fit in the club though, which is why it was probably Herrera and no one else. Rakitic's contract was running out wasn't it? Would make sense why he's relatively cheap.

Plus, if we're talking about why English players are so expensive, it's probably because the tv deals in place in England means that the likes of Southampton don't have to sell as much as Sevilla does.

Having said all that, I still think we could have gotten Strootman or McCarthy last season instead of Fellaini but everything that happens last season I'm dismissing as a fluke. In fairness, we did get Mata for cheap, considering his quality and record in the PL.
