Ivan Perisic

It would appear that none of the heavy hitters are on the market but I'm sure that there are plenty of better options than Perisic out there; Lemar is probably available at that price for example.
Lemar is a central player that can play in a wide position. He doesn't have the pace or shooting ability that Perisic does in my opinion.

Isn't Robben famous for cutting inside and shooting?

It doesn't matter, Perisic also does that sometimes.

He played mostly on the left hand side last season. I rate him a lot higher than Perisic like, although I'm sure some will disagree.

Incidentally, I think we overrate pace as a fanbase. How fast a player is physically doesn't matter as much when most teams defend against us from the off.

This is ridiculous the stick he gets on here. I would imagine some people just haven't seen him play or haven't noticed we don't actually have a left winger that's not Ashley young. An actual winger ( not a Centre forward playing on the wing). He will add alot to the team he has pace to burn , he is a work horse and most importantly he is very much a Jose type signing.

Well said. I Admit I am one of those who has never seen him play. And I like that. I like the Bailly signings. The Lindelofs. Players I dont expect or know but bought for a reason due to our scouts and manager. Ultimately we need a specialist left winger (and right also tbh) who is effective and works hard.... as you say we have enough pseudo wingers, false 10s, young strikers played wide etc.

Signings that balance or squad and lay the foundations for the occasional worldy talent are more than welcome by me. Or at least attempts to do so.

Now a bit more in CM and we have an interesting looking squad for next season.

As a wide player Perisic has more strings to his bow. Lemar is a very good player but in my opinion best suited to a central role

Ok, mate. We just disagreed on some points. But don't you think 50 or 48m for Perisic is overpriced? I know it's not our money, and the manager should get what he needs. But then, this is a forum where fans discussing things.

I'm not against signing Perisic, as our play down the wings are horrible, last season. I'm just expecting us to get better player at the quoted price. At cheaper price on 25m, like you said, would make his signing more acceptable as a gamble given his profile and fans expectation.

I think the price is absolutely ridiculous but with what Premier League teams are paying these days, it's pretty much in line with expectations. We are playing along with basically everybody else. £48m now is probably £25m two or three years ago. fecking TV deal.

This and especially bolded part. I think that biggest problem with him is his price. For 30 mil everybody here would be delighted. I agree that price is unreal for him but most of transfer fees last couple of years don't have any sense so...
Perisic is fantastic in crossing and dribble in wide areas. Something that we didn't have last year.
Guys, his best strength is puting himself in position to cross. He doesn't do what martial and rashford always do in wide areas- trying to beat their man completely and go in penalty area. His main thought is to create one meter of space to deliver that cross. And he does that great. With lukaku and fellaini it is something that we need.

With perisic we will have three different attacks from the wing. Miki, mata and lingard are playing one -twos with other players. They are not crossing and they don't go in dribble. With them ball goes around. Martial and rush are going all in. Through players.
Now we have player who will cross the ball.

He definitely does add something different to the team and yes I do think it would be nice to have a DM in the team for pogba. I think that's a fair comment but the only thing is I don't think pogba changes our style but can still fit into the team.
A common knock against the "philosophy" teams on that they never have a Plan B. We've seen it firsthand that when you are only able to attack in a certain way, teams have a better chance of stifling you. With someone like Perisic added, I think we have a true winger who gives us a different facet and that makes things more difficult for opposing team. Whether he's an automatic starter or not - or most of our players tbh - I think that should be determined by how well they play. If he comes in and is a big hit, linking up all the time with Lukaku, will anyone complain?

Trick question - of course they will, but they shouldn't.

If he is as good as some said here, a worldy left winger who tearing up in Seria A it seems weird why no other clubs other than us linked with him or maybe I miss some rumours? Because surely a player with such quality and on peak of his career would actually attract a lot of football clubs. Juve gone and sign Costa and even Milan who actually signs everyone didn't have any interest in him.

What is indisputable is that he got the accleration, speed and power to be successful, but let's wait and see.

Like any other new signings let's give him two three month to adapt before you make your final judgement.

So does Walcott, Zaha, Chamberlain etc.

Seems this is happening.

Very underwhelmed by him.

Really think we could do better and Jose's track record with wingers does make one worry.

Very underrated player. Many people will eat their words on this forum if we do sign him.

Personally would have preferred to have kept Zaha and Nani and still had £30m in the bank to strengthen further.

Yeah, he's 28. He's going to be playing at a good/decent level for the next 4-5 years. He's not past his prime, he's well into his prime. It's a shame we did not get him 2-3 years earlier but it is what it is, it's a nice signing and good luck to him.
I completely agree. There is nothing wrong with buying players who are that age or older. We've seen what the likes of Zlatan can do so if they've got the right attitude and look after themselves there's no reason players in that age range can't be a viable option. If we get 4 to 5 years service out of him I'd be very happy.
