Inter's demands have been ridiculous from the start

If there are 4 options for every position and Willian is impossible while Inter are being unreasonable I'm not sure why we haven't moved onto the next one already. Let them deal with a disgruntled player for the rest of the season.

Convenient timing alright  Ed's last couple of days before joining the tour, Perisic's last couple of days before having to go to China, suddenly a suspicious tooth problem and he's jetting off to "Croatia" Subtle guys, real subtle

I agree. He is not a bad player but surely there are better alternatives for that price.

Slightly underwhelming signing but he will definitely do a job. I think we've been spoilt with all these big names in the last couple of years, so signings like this seem poor. He'll be a good addition.

The idea is starting to grow on me however, himself + Lukaku won't suffice if we are aiming to challenge for the league. No matter what people say, it's clear we lack that match winner.

Definitely, although I'd prefer us to buy a good holding centre mid first. Hopefully Martial and Rashford will step up and provide match winning moments for us, along with Perisic and Lukaku, but they need more class behind them.

That's where Pogba has to step up. He can be the guy who decides the big games or the crucial moments.

Lukaku, Perisic, Mata, Mkhitaryan, Rashford and Martial should be sufficient for a prem challenge which Jose needs to achieve this season.

Not really, hsi first season with Inter was worse and none of his seasons have been as good as Martial's two best seasons.
Eh, not really. His first season with inter was also very good and you could compare his two seasons with them with Martial's 2014-16 seasons

Difference is one guy is in his prime, playing the best football of his career. The other is 21

Lukaku, Pogba, Mikhi, Mata, Rashford, Martial can all be world class.

Look at Liverpool, they made a bunch of average players look like world beaters. Mane, Lallana, Wijnaldum went from pretty average to performing at a very high level.

Spurs did the same, Dembele's career was going nowhere now he's one of the best CM's in the league, Eriksen fulfiled all his potential and Dier turned into a top class DM.

Even Chelsea, Conte made Moses and Marcos Alonso into the best wingbacks in the league and got a much higher level out of Pedro and Cahill then they had been at before

In the right system players can play at their highest levels and the team can become greater than the sum of their parts. If anyone can get this level out of our team and players it's Mourinho

I was talking about statistical outputs. People have used stats to lambast our players and hype up Perisic when the latter isn't better. Perisic's first season with Inter was good when compared to his teammates at the exception of Candreva, Icardi and Handanovic but if in my opinion they were still poor, now the midfield was arguably useless so it didn't help the aforementioned players.

Not sure Mourinho would see it that way - he doesn't seem to rate Martial particularly highly. Wouldn't be the most surprising development if this kind of deal was done.
Can we please, please, stop stating this as though it's fact. As I and others have pointed out several times on this thread, Mourinho has on multiple occasions during his career dropped and publicly criticised key players that he rated very highly because he felt there was something lacking in their game or wanted to get the best out of them. It is a man-management strategy.

For that matter, the article suggesting Martial could be loaned in exchange for Perisic is lacking any evidence; all it says is that Inter "could" ask for Martial in exchange, which is like saying we "could" sign Messi from Barcelona. This one is a non-starter, Martial is still a key attacking option for us, and at 21 could yet become a great player. We are not selling him to anyone this summer.

Last year during the pogba saga there were lots of such rumours. That juve wanted 100m plus Raiola s fees(came to 145m), that they wanted 100m plus Player (Herrera I think it was) etc.

Finally we agreed a fee of 100m including all of Raiola s fees and no player sold to them. Club apparently knew what they were doing (Shocker I know)

My guess is this will be done in a week. The actual fee will be something like 40m euros plus add ons with no player going there.
I agree, bless you for talking some sense in amongst all this.

If he really wants to join us he should throw a tantrum seeing that Inter are, essentially, trolling us at this stage with their demands. Otherwise, look elsewhere and stop this nonsense.
To be fair, based on that photo and multiple reports he is desperate to join us, that seems like exactly what he's doing. I'd honestly be very surprised if this deal doesn't go through now.

They want Martial as part of the deal. Do they want some cream and cherry on top of it as well.

One would think Perisic is tearing it apart everywhere.

Perisic will be an awful signing, i just don't get why splashing so much cash for an apparent mediocrity.

Wouldn't be surprised if he turns out our player of the season given no-one wants him  Big name signings have done feck all for us as of late tbf. The majority have flopped.

There's no way we swap one of the most promising young players in Europe for a 28 year old winger (and I'm a Perisic fan). Serious questions would need to be asked if that happened.
Why are you a Perisic fan? Just curious. :)

Have any of the anti-Perisic brigade actually seen him play?

I remember us being linked with him on and off for years now under various managers and so have always watched closely when he has been involved in major tournaments

I always thought he looked very good technically and could easily step up to a better side

... who are the better alternatives...
Like anybody.
F. Anderson, Insigne from Italy, Lemar from Monaco. Etc. Salah would have been better. You can easily get much more exciting players from Portugal, Germany as well. Also that young italian guy from Fiorentina, he plays closer to the left usually.t
Perisic is spent and never was a top material to begin with.

Yep. Jose needs to see this post for the sake of our season as you're so much more clued up on the situation than him. He's 'spent' which is exactly why one of the top managers in history wants him.

I dont get this either. Ive read somewhere that Jose put a list of players he wanted depending on us getting the CL football or not. Persisc was on the list of players in case we end up playing in Europa league again. What elevated him to be our only left winger target is a mystery.

I've seen him enough. The only thing he is got going for him is a working rate. Which is a nice way of saying, that he does not have real talent or flair in attack, so he compensates it with a lot of running. That and physical strength. And it's not like he excels in using those as well.
I've seen enough big Inter games to know that opponent had more luck on Inter's left side, where Perisic plays. Of course part of that, lets say more than 50%, is down to Inter's LB, which is a mess position with three players, none of them particularly good, trying themselves there during just this last season. But that does not absolve Perisic completely, his defending skills are not top notch.

Actually, having done a lot of proofreading on high quality dentistry at low prices I can confirm that by combining your dental treatment with a nice holiday in Eastern Europe you can save money and have a good time.

Jose had enough transfer gaffes to fill a book. Do you need reminding how many players that turned completely worthless have he signed for Real, Chelsea or Inter?
Of course part of the trade that. But that fact makes your post meaningless. Because it proves that Jose's wanting him is nowhere near a guarantee, that he will not be sold for 3 times cheaper after a year or a two.
Jose was a top manager, that allowed Salah, Lukaku and De Bryune to leave while got somebodies like Cuadrado.

This thread has been recycling of the same discussion over and over again. Probably the most boring transfer saga ever

All those are in hindsight. My point is writing the player off before we've even signed him is ridiculous.

Opinions, he may surprise some people but its fair to have the opinion that he isn't right for us, nothing wrong with that IMO
