Interestingly good numbers from Martial but I don't remember these 6 assists at all tbh. Lingard numbers are disgusting.

The difference in crosses is normal and shows exactly why we need him. All other 3 prefer to cut inside and this have a low chance for a cross while Perisic is always on the flank and with his ability to play with 2 foots, his crossing is unpredictable for the defender and has higher chance of making crosses than all our other players bar Valencia and maybe Rashford.

I have a feeling Perisic and Lukaku can replicate what Valenica and Rooney were doing in 2009/2010.

I've been banging this drum for about 4 years on here, how we need an actual old fashioned winger, how our attacking issues stem from our complete toothlessness in wide areas and how it isn't a coincidence that we've been largely shite since Valencia declined in 2013.

This guy is exactly that, and while he might not set the world alight and the fee is likely to be eye-watering, he will provide width and satisfy my 4 year itch. It's daft money, but if he comes I'll be happy.

I think many like myself are wondering if there is actually a plan B. If there is who do you think it might be, out of curiousity?
Yeah, agree with this. We've been in for him for quite a while now without even a link to an alternative. His rumours were here when we were still bring linked to Belotti.

I'll start by saying I've never heard of him before the links and have only watched clips. But judging from those vids (I know it's only clips) I think he can completely transform our productivity, stylistically everything we need. Could be the most important difference to last season

That is what Mourinho thinks too I would guess.

Based on the way Mourinho talks about Rashford, on not having dropped him all season when Martial was supposed to start on the left and Zlatan had the center spot, on having no reason to limit his growth now, etc. I just don't think he's planning on a team that doesn't feature Rashford most of the time. What I still haven't understood is how Perišić fits into that part of the plan.
Rashford came off the bench 21 times. He started 16 prem games and was off the bench in 16 prem games. He was on bench for half his competition games, so was in no way not dropped all season. he was consistently dropped as he wasn't effective for the vast majority of the season. No one held that LW spot down. If Perisic comes, he'll nail down the LW spot, partly due to his experience, partly due to his superior performance levels and partly due to lack of competition.

Hence why he is regulalrly slated and people do not believe he should be in our squad. Literally offers zero output and we saw him start so many games ahead of more talented players, despite the fact that he never ever produced. good dancer though

Is it good or really bad for Perisic?

He has something like two or three assists out of those 239 crosses, he played 1200 more minutes than Martial but barely hedges him in assists and he doesn't have the excuse of the quality of his striker because Icardi is arguably as good as what we have. He is the typical example of Inter's recent failures, inefficiency.

This is embarrassing behavior by Perisic.

Inter are doing far worse TBH. Inter represent the FM/Plastic fans of Milan (just read their history, they actually left AC Milan because the latter refused to add shiny foreigners to the team). These fans are pissed off that they ended up saddled with the wrong Chinese administration while their better cousins ended up with the right sort of Chinese administration (ie the ones who actually spend money rather then simply talk about it). All this posturing is down to them showing that Inter are still strong and rich enough to be able to keep a player even against his will (only to sell him for ridiculous money and then add a better player to the team). Its basically Glaston's Spurs/daddy mentality all over again with the difference that Inter is way bigger club than that and they should act like one.

I find it both sad and counterproductive. Icardi (whom among Perisic is one of the very few players at Inter who can play football) had already said that if Perisic want to leave, then Inter should let him go. Its pointless keeping an unhappy player in the team. If Inter insist in forcing players to remain against their will, despite clubs offering top £££ for them, then they risk an open revolt.

Inter spent 160m last summer which is more than what Milan currently spent and they have been spending for the past 3 summers. They are just really bad at it. People have short memories.

Inter fans are renowned for having short memories. This year they both some random defender and a pensioner while AC Milan spend shitloads of money on top quality players who would walk in most teams (including ours). That's what matters to them. Its a club were fans love expensive transfers and exotic players. Their very history is built on it.

I'm talking about your memory old man.:p

You are the one who said that Inter's owners were only talking about spending when they actually did spend. Milan are one window late in terms of spending and that's why unlike Inter they are not in trouble with FFP, yet. Though, Inter spent stupidly while Milan seem to target decent football players and have a good mister.

As JPRouve stated, Inter has been spending money. And Perisic signed a contract until 2020 with Inter, nobody forced him to do that. You can't have flexibility in the transfer market and a long-term contract as an insurance behind it. If you want more flexibility as a player, sign shot-term contracts, kinda the way LeBron James is doing in the NBA.
One can always hand in a transfer request, but if a deal doesn't materialize, for one reason or another, you still have to act professionally, something Perisic is simply not doing.

It depends how you see it. Sure on paper Inter spent shitloads of money. However, these days feesARE a minor detail when compared to salary. Inter brought players who wouldn't demand alot of salary mainly because they either came from minor leagues (Barbosa or Mario) or they were a bit of a surplus in the club they played with (ex Shaqiri ). That of course kept salaries low but also filled them with high risk players. Fans aren't stupid. They know that Milan had spent wisely on highly talented players who are in great demand.

True but if a player wants to leave and the buyer is offering you good money for him then why keep him? Especially players who are at the wrong side of their 20s. Its counterproductive to keep players against their will.

That depends on the availability of a replacement. Given that they can't afford to get into trouble with the FFP rules again, they have to hold out for a massive fee given the players' qualities. Hence I'm not sure is that's smart by us to continue to negotiate with them.

Look no one at OT will lose sleep if we don't sign Perisic. However can Inter say the same? Will Perisic be happy that Inter ruined him his only chance of joining a top club? Will his teammates be happy to know that their club can't be reasoned with? Inter players aren't renowned for their loyalty. They are aware that the club is a mess and they see Inter as a stepping stone to something better. What would happen if Barcelona or Bayern comes knocking at Icardi's door and Inter decides to do the same to him as they did with Perisic?

That should teach players to either sign shorter term contracts or include a buyout clause in the contract. Of course, it could make life more difficult for Inter in the future. But given how poor they've been in recent years, they can't afford to just lose one of the few players who was somewhat productive for them. If they want to return to being a force in Italian and European football, they're gonna have to stop being a stepping stone for players. PSG is doing the same with Verratti. For what it's worth, so many fans often complain about clubs being forced to sell their best players when the big dogs come knocking. So Inter and PSG are standing strong and looking to stop that trend.

With that being said, do I like how Inter and PSG act? No. I believe that in such cases, the player and the club should come to a fair solution, meaning the player should be loyal and at least make sure his club receives a good fee for him and the club should be reasonable enough to sell the player if another club is willing to invest heavily into signing said player.

But at the same time, I understand the reasoning behind PSG's and Inter's behavior. I mean, it's not as if Perisic is rotting away on the bench. He's a starter and an important player for them. Inter has every right to ask for a huge fee and if we're (rightfully so) not willing to match it, then he should just focus on performing for his club and helping Inter return to being a title contender in Italian football.

And I'm surely not losing sleep over signing Perisic, I'm not that fond of him anyways.

The current fees apply to Inter and Milan, so it's not an argument against Inter's spendings. As for the rest, we agree on the quality but it doesn't change the fact that this new narrative that Inter's got the bad stingy Chinese owners is fallacious, Inter are just bad at purchasing players and hiring managers.

From a purely football perspective they are better off cashing on him. 45m for an unhappy good but not world class 28 year old is big money in the EPL let alone in the Serie A. There again common sense and Inter doesn't often work well together. They are the ones who would sell Roberto Carlos for peanuts simply because the manager didn't like him only to sack that same manager few months after.

Regarding United we should consider other options.

As said, these days its the salary that matters and not the fee. We can spend 150m on buying third rated players and big club rejects who are so desperate to leave the club that they will accept any sort of conditions. That doesn't mean we did well or that the club is extremely generous/ambitious.

Its pretty much what happened to us in the final years of SAF's administration and during LVG/Moyes administration. We did spent the money but most of our transfers were bought with the wage structure/avoiding agent fees in mind rather then because of their talent/quality. I mean, no serious top club would buy the likes of Fellaini, Young, Blind and co.

i know its talk sport and other people call it talk shite but they said this morning that he wont be joining us and we have turned our attention elsewhere

Not seen this before. It shows why we finished where we did in the league with the lack of production from those three players.

The fee for Perisic is too high, but people stop insulting the player folks. He isn't choosing the fee, blame Inter for being greedy. If he is the player Jose wants and will do what Jose wants then it is fine by me. Jose wants someone who will drag the fullbacks out and get crosses in.
Fully agree about the price bit.

On the bolded, yeah, and considering most of the other "wingers" we have in the squad prefer cutting in, it will add much needed balance and a different dimension. This is without even considering his defensive work rate.

It also makes more sense, having a striker like Lukaku up front who will attack those crosses.

Believe what you want, but I find it quite clear Rashford started almost all of our important games later in the season, including some when Ibrahimović was still available. The logic, bar some particular strategy, was Rashford on the left or in the middle, he almost didn't got dropped then (I wasn't saying he started all games, I meant he was a priority choice for the manager), that means all the important Europa Leagues games, Chelsea (h), Manchester City (a), etc. I think what drives most people here to think he will start the season on the bench is because his position is unclear on the field and that we have no substitute for Lukaku, so you're tempted to believe Mourinho will want a dead starter on the left who is not Rashford. Maybe, if we get Perišić, hardly if it's Martial. I think he will mostly fit him in wherever whenever he cans. The formation that will allow him to do that is the hard question.

I mean, what's left to say after those crosses' numbers? Although, to be honest, by what I see on the videos, most of them can be useless and we might despair with his lack of judgment. Even if Martial started the same number of games, he would probably have only half. Strange Rashford or Mata aren't there, cause they ended up being our main option on the wings.

I thought this was a Perisic thread? thus assuming we do sign Perisic, Rashford will be on the bench. Rashford started big games, but no due to his productivity as he was involved in 6 league goals all season. The little he did offer, Perisic can quote comfortably do, which is why I believe he will be operating as a bench player.

The only question is that if Inter really are refusing to sell and its not happening then whats our plan b? Unless we sign someone totally unexpected like Sanchez/Bale then I cant see who a realistic alternative is.

You're supposing we keep the same two formations, 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3, and that we'll leave both Martial and Rashford out of them, is that it? I just find it very hard to believe, but we'll see. I think we'll get in most games at home, for instance, us playing a wide-forward, a playmaker and a winger, on the second line behind Lukaku, not two playmakers. The fact that Perišić plays on the left just makes it harder to understand how the wide-forwards are going to fit in. Could easily convert into a 4-4-2, for instance.

My wish is for 4-4-2 as I believe Rashford would be sooo much better upfront with a partner, but I don't see Jose opting for 4-4-2

I just hope whatever we do, we have at least 1 wide player holding the width. Playing with 2 inside forwards just doesn't work, especially against teams who only want to defend.

You have to use width and overlapping against teams like that, and we didn't utilise that enough last year.

Have you seen some of the finishing in that video of last season? Assists are as much an indicator of the provider as finisher/s.

I didn't mention anything about playing 2 inside forwards, just 1, like most games last year. We were indeed playing 2 playmakers at the same time. You're saying, drop 1 inside-forward and keep 2 playmakers, really. We need Perišić not so much because of Martial or Rashford, but because of having a playmaker on the rightwing.

There will be even more tactical flexibility this season, my guess. At home, really think 4-4-2 (or 3-4-3) will be an attacking option. Besides, Lukaku doesn't play so centrally as Zlatan, he's more mobile and drifts to the right, leaving more space on the left.

I have seen Inter and I have seen Perisic. He is overrated on this forum.

Edit: I have seen people put Perisic on the right but in that case Candreva should be the target.

If he truly is a traditional winger, can imagine Pogba having a field day with him in the team.
