If only Di Maria had actually bothered to fight for the team and for his place he could have been here and we wouldn't have this discussion about Perisic. He was a natural left-footed LW with great delivery and goal threat. Shame he didn't care at all.

… that Mourinho used on the right.

Well if he's Mourinho's first choice I expect him to really add another dimension to the team. I'm wary but will look forward to see how he will contribute, not going to moan when he signs.

Are we sure this guy is costing £45M/£50M or Euros? Surely we can't be paying upwards of £50M for him? I don't mind getting him, but that's extortionate..

I reckon having a certain C.Ronaldo on the left might have something to do with that, don't you think?
Probably, but not the only reason. Mourinho is known to like wrong-footed wingers. Maybe now he understands we need a left-footed one on the left, if width is the issue.

Only Perisic is right footed :nervous:

EDIT: Also Real during Mourinho's reign had Marcelo providing all the width when C.Ronaldo drifted centrally. Another reason they played Di Maria on the right. United have no width from the LB position (not with Shaw in the state he's been in) so a more natural LW seems an obvious choice.

Di Maria leaving was a two way thing. I got the impression at the time that LVG wanted him to leave and indeed Di Maria hinted that this was the case in an interview after he left.

Everyone uses wrong footed wingers, I can't think of a single team that doesn't. Nobody plays old fashioned wingers anymore, they have to be able to cut in these days and beat their man inside and outside

Let's not rewrite things, Di Maria wanted PSG before he rocked up here. Only their FFP problems prevented that.
Glad he left, awful attitude.

Too much smoke in this one. On a positive side, he could be great on a counter and he is kinda player you would like to have against Pep possession team. He also has a fighting spirit so along with Bailly, Valencia, Herrera, Lukaku, yes even Fellaini we would be physically nightmare to play. There will be no complaints about us, for example, turning at Anfield and being soft.

Can see the sense but my worry is breaking those parked bus defences like last season. Neither Lukaku or him are so great when they face it or when they have to operate in tight spaces. Maybe the plan is to bully everyone.

LVG was the one who brought him. If LVG wanted him to leave it's because after a decent start he started playing like he didn't care. He was abysmal in the 2nd half of the season.

Seems we got on the phone to all the journos to say we're after Perisic again. Wonder if we're hoping he'll try to force Inter's hand a bit.

It's probably his last opportunity for a big transfer and a chance of silverware and CL football.

With what United did to Keane and Morata, I wouldn't be surprised if we performed another RKO outta nowhere and got someone else quickly

Woody has been doing some serious biefing today.

Sexy player? No. Excited my inner muppet? Hell no. Useful player? Yes. Does Jose value him? Clearly

If James and Costa werent wrapped up today i would be inclined to think so. There's no one else so Perisic it is. Its why we are basically froced to pay the asking price.

Think people will be genuinely surprised about this guy. He won't set the league alight, but he will do his job and I reckon he'll be Lukaku's wet dream.

If Inter could finish their dinners, Perisic would have racked up dozens of assists last season.

I'd be happy to have him he always looks decent when I watch him. But the fee being quoted is just awful. No wonder it has stalled for weeks if they are asking for £40m+. He's no spring chicken either.

Let's say he's actully worth around £35m, and I think that figure is more than sensible - possibly too low. Is an extra £10m for a club if our wealth that big a deal?

The price just doesn't matter.

Other more 'glamour' options just aren't available.

He ticks a lot of boxes, style wise.

Sign him up.

I'm not denying he wanted PSG, I'm saying LVG didn't put up much of a fight to keep him.

Mourinho said during the season that he would never have sold him.

I don't think we are going to sign him.

It's going to be another Morata/Lukaku situation.

I've no idea who it will be, but we will suddenly announce the signing of a top class wide forward with an eye for goal.

Bernardo Silva 22 years old: £43m
Ivan Perisic 28 years old: £45m

Our club is an utter joke in the transfer market. I can't wait until the Juve guy gets started with us. Look at how well Bayern are run by footballing men who actually know football. This is what happens when we're run by a bunch of ex bankers. Ed, for the love of god, forego your ego and let someone else deal with the football side. Please. The transfer fees and wages we pay are utterly insane.

Transfer fees don't work like that, you pay what the other side thinks you should pay unless there is a release clause. Being United we pay more simply because the other team knows we have it.

We done have more than City or Chelsea and their (owners) unlimited pockets. We pay more because we're willing to pay more.

Hm? Is that opinion based on having watched Inter a lot?

Alexis Sanchez

Hard to disagree with this notion. It's just way too high a fee.

I really hope we don't bring in Perisic. Really hoping he's a smokescreen(even though it looks incredibly unlikely).

You can't have it both ways. Sometimes you have to pay premium for players like Pogba, and when you pay that much, other clubs take notice when you come sniffing around for their players.

Sanchez is the only one remotely available I can think of.

I don't think he wants to join us though.

FFS £48m for a 28/29 year old winger, Mourinho really is living up to his reputation of a the free spending manager. We still have £50m Dier to come too. If Mourinho doesn't win the league or at least finish second next season, I'm going to be p****d.

Oh the people who think they can do better then Ed are back.

I know this will be immediately shot down by 'its not going to happen, he doesn't want to leave this season, they'd never sell' type comments but would anyone be amazingly shocked if we suddenly wrapped up Dembele from Dortmund for £90m? I wouldn't.
