That was obviously doomed from the start as there will never be a solution to statehood without both parties cooperating and agreeing on a solution.

Hamas is a blight on the Palestinian people but Israel is largely to blame for the creation and continued existence of Hamas.
Look at history when right wing organisations gain traction in any society, Gaza is an extreme example. Of course something like Hamas is going to arise.
