It's a very small and petty thing to complain about relative to the actual warfare going on but my Twitter feed (which is not particularly geared towards politics or news) is just unbearable between Felix from Chapo dumping on Bernie Sanders for... a message about remembering the Tree of Life synagogue mass shooting & Jewish people not condoning Likud but seemingly labeling every pro-Palestine sentiment as pro-Hamas. Plus of course all the people that are "done with the Left".

Just wish a ceasefire, humanitarian relief and international community forcing a peace process restart (but with who ?) but those things never just happen like that.

Because they’ve spent the last decade denying and covering for Assad and Russia’s crimes in Syria, and more recently Russia’s crimes in Ukraine, using the exact same arguments currently being used by defenders of Israel’s conduct here.

A particular scummy example I recall is Blumenthal mocking Syrian victims of chemical attacks:

Must not become numb to the suffering........ but let's veto every single resolution, provide weaponry and diplomatic cover for everything being done and directly contribute to it.

At least she's not becoming numb to it though, that's a relief.

What? What an odd jump. Why would chemical weapons be the first thing you go to?

It is also nonsense however. It isn't purely an Israeli decision. The Americans provide weapons and will continue to do so, regardless of what Israel does. The Americans will provide logistical and intelligence support, regardless of what Israel does. They will provide diplomatic cover, regardless of what Israel does. They have stationed significant resources in the region to dissuade other actors, who may make Israel think twice about flattening Gaza.

They don't really seem to make that link though. As long as there's some back channel communications suggesting not to flatten the entire strip and go in with a ground invasion, they think they can wash their hands of what happens next.

Nah, it's probably due to the length a successful urban campaign will take & the Israeli mindset to completely eradicate Hamas damn the consequences.

We are still chastened a bit by Fallujah, we don't want to be associated with another one.

Cynically, I realize that the tweet isn't that dumb. It could allow her to blur the lines at a later date, since people are now able to easily look at your past claims through social media, it's not a bad idea to somewhat play on both sides of the fence. We are judging it in real time so we know that she is full of it but how will people read this in 10 or 15 years? How many people won't know the largest context?

Why did they have body cams then? That doesn't really make sense, are we to believe Hamas are smart enough to plan this attack but stupid enough to record it without expecting the footage to be captured?

I’m speculating why he would dissociate himself. But it doesn’t bode well for Gaza that he has a hands off approach.

Even if Israel manage to defeat Hamas, and that's a big if, there will be a new snake that rears its head in the future. This is merely an excuse to flatten and displace Palestinians. There will be retaliation sooner or later, you wouldn't be surprised to hear of car bombings, public explosions in Israel etc, and then who will the Israelis go after.. An eye for an eye and the whole world goes blind.

Look, I don't want to have a go but some self-reflection may be in order. Yes there's drama and overreactions on here, it's a very emotive subject. I am probably guilty of it myself. Don't think that they're uniquely on one side.

This is not a real thing. There's 60k Ukrainian refugees in Norway, after the Norwegian government made it easier and quicker for Ukrainians to settle in Norway as refugees. You'd never personally blame him for that, so why blame him for those fleeing to Israel?

I’ll come back to this (and a few others) when I’m on the laptop. But Zelensky is undoubtedly influencing (or attempting to influence) Israeli policy vis a vis Ukrainian refugees.
