So here I am thinking, "President Biden said the reports of beheaded babies must be true. He's probably been shown terrible photos in the Secure Room. How horrible."

When actually, he was going off a "trust me bro" from actual US president Bibi

One day we'll see the Kompromat Israel has on the American public because this is reaching Seinfeld levels of insane

People will start to realise that the adults are not in charge and that things are more like The Thick of It when it comes to politics.

Don't worry, Andrew Neil "is well connected"

Even if Israel is able to get rid of Hamas leaders, chances are even more radical leaders emerge. This blockade and attack on Gaza will further radicalize even the moderate ones, and apart from Hamas, they dont have any political alternatives, as PLO is seen as being in Israel's pockets, so chances are that Israel might end up creating a worse successor.

What you do after ridding Gaza of them counts, it cannot be the same as before, it has to change and democracy and kindness will remove the will of groups to try to replicate Hamas

Is it worth posting every comment like this. For every one in the Israeli side, there's another from the other side. Objectivity?

It's a member of parliament calling for the use of nukes, it's an extremely relevant thing to post. Your continued attempts to police this thread, and what you prioritize calling out, are bizarre.

Speaking of the other side, here is the head of Hamas calling for a global jihad against Jews. Not just Israeli. That's going to cost innocent lives around the world.

From his office in Qatar. Qatar better get their act together and get some sportswashing projects sorted around the world to cover up the fact they're directly sponsoring murdering terrorists and fomenting war and destruction.

Oh, and re lobbying, for those that speak darkly about the Israeli lobby and zionist influence in the USA, are you also going to speak of this secret Arab conspiracy too?

What an asshole. Sitting savely in Qatar giving orders.

By the way: Has Qatar condemnded the actions from Hamas yet? Are there any official statements coming out from them? How influencial (especially financially) are they to Hamas?

Almost 350 000 people displaced in Gaza so far, and growing. I really hope Israel and the world at large has a plan for what to do once all of this is over.

Qatar blames Israel for everything.

Yeah, on reflection it was a fair thing to post.

I see Pedro Gonzalez is trying to launder his image.

Tried to post this yesterday but didn't get the format right.

But yea, spinless cowards these people.

That would be nice, but where would plan have come from? A week ago no-one thought this would happen, and everyone was happy to let the status quo go on. You don't just conjure up a plan to rehouse hundreds of thousands in a few days.

Jesus, I had no idea who this guy was. fecking hell. Having a mare this morning. Time to sit this out for a while.

(the original post about the Hamas leader is valid though I suppose).

I have no idea. They can't just leave Gazans with nothing after invading - that would be a huge security risk (as well as a humanitarian catastrophe).

It's unrealistic, but I would hope that the US and Saudi could get Israel to the table with the PLO - who isn't part of this war - and find a long term solution for the west bank and the inevitably annexed Gaza.

It's nice to see that the only this Labour and The Tories can agree on is not letting people in Gaza have water or power.

This is fecking insane.

If by "they" you mean Israel, I expect that's exactly what they are going to do. They want Hamas destroyed, and are willing to displace every single person in the Gaza strip, if that's what it takes. I don't expect them to play Good Samaritans once the dust has settled.

Have been unable to get through to a close friend of mine, an intensive care doctor working for MSF in Gaza since the bombing began. Another friend is Palestinian origin and returned to the West Bank to try to improve the lives of Palestinians there. Also been unable to get through to him. Hope they're both OK.

@ScholesyTheWise @Amir Hope you guys both remain safe and are doing as well as you can be considering the circumstances.

Thanks very much, I'm safe for now. will only be in real danger if Hezbollah joins in for real.
Until then, I live relatively far from the action and only worry about people I know who are there fighting.
I really hope that your acquaintances are OK. I fear for them.

I think I really really had a need to engage in conversation, get things off my chest,
say (even if virtually) things I can't say out loud to family and friends right now because everyone seems to have hardened themselves so much.

I haven't been able to work for the past 2-3 days. Been constantly watching the news sites and being here also.

I think it has run its course for now, and I'll do my best to stay away from the internet as best as I can.
Discussing the atrocities has and will take its toll on me,
and while things are going to get much much worse, especially for the Palestinians,
I'd like to distance myself from it.

Hope you guys stay safe, wherever you are.

Thanks very much for being some sort of a support group :)

I'll probably keep reading this thread from time to time as it's probably stronger than me,
but I'd like to think that not posting will be beneficial at least to some extent.

@owlo @Amir stay safe, physically and mentally, as much as possible

Yes to show just how some people in positions of authority have lost their common sense and objectivity.

Israel has now linked the cutting off of electricity, food and water to the release of Israeli hostages. Given the bombing of the Rafah crossing it seems that Israeli policy is now to hold the entire Gazan population hostage until that happens.

Hope all of you guys outhere, your friends, families and loved ones stay safe during this horrific conflict.

there were already 1.7million refugees in gaza before this escalated these past few days.

Really hope a humanitarian corridor can be opened and innocent civilians can be moved out (egypt?!?). Also vital supplies for hospitals can be brought in.

Except there is/was very large condemnation of Israel worldwide and support for the Palestinian people, we see it in the streets of Manchester/London, not too long ago there was someone on the caf asking about unfurling a Palestinian flag at a game somewhere. Just not enough support to influence Governments though I agree, and all governments worldwide know they would act in the same way.

Still, yes it shouldn't be excused, pressure should be put on Israel to do what no country has done before and show restraint.
It's the "thoughts and prayers" GOP style when it comes to the Palestinians. So it's basically doesn't mean anything

Their MO is making sure nobody fecks with them

You hit them with a fist, they'll come back with a bat
You hit them with a bat, they'll come back with a gun
And if you shoot him you better make sure he's dead, or he's gonna keep coming back

The main point is setting a precedent that you don't mess with Israel or you'll pay a high price.

I hate to say it, but I think so far it work. If there's not much of actual attack against Israel, it's not out of peace but knowing they'd hit hard if you mess with them.

I hope that if Israel decides to enter Gaza, they prioritize the well-being and safety of civilians. This shouldn't be about revenge. The welfare of innocent people should always be at the forefront and I hope Israel does this in a way that shows that they are better than terrorists. I have fears that this will become ugly though.

I'll say it again, but you are aware that one side of this is a 3rd world 'country', under apartheid, being essentially run by terrorists(but with millions of innocent people living there), whereas the other is a 1st world country with enormous wealth? It's pretty concerning when the latter are talking about nuking the former.

I actually posted a retraction to my comment further up the thread, the original post was indeed relevant and worth sharing here.

I may disagree with some of your points, but yes, this was a disgraceful verbal escalation. Although obviously they're not going to nuke a territory literally next door to them for numerous reasons, we need cool and compassionate heads now, not idiots like this.

Last I read, a humanitarian corridor through rafah was being negotiated, but only 2000 civilians would be allowed over the border .

Fair play, yes, the fact that supposedly highly educated people are even throwing stuff like that out is extremely worrying, regardless of the feasibility or likelihood.

Ironic given we don't hear a peep from him when it's the Palestinians being killed and occupied.

Even if Israel is able to get rid of Hamas leaders, chances are even more radical leaders emerge. I do love this logic from Israel and it's supporters.

"Sir, we've killed all the Hamas members!"

"Congrats everyone! Job well done!"

"Though Sir, we've also gone on and killed 2000 other civilians not associated with Hamas, including plenty of children"

"Oh don't worry, let's not think about the dead's family members and what they might be feeling as well. Party time!"
