Iran v US confrontation

That video doesn't tell shit. Could be anyone.

They’re saying the mine is visible in this pic, and that the Iranians went back to get it to remove the evidence:

America are always looking for a fight...pity they send normal folk rarther then the coin behind it. Of course America should leave well alone but they won't because their history is littered with aggression.

I mean where is that footage and photo even supposed to be from? They somehow have a clear photo of the 'mine' but the removal video looks like a dog chewed the VHS

The onboard crew have claimed it was a missile from what I've read. Good job the US and Israel don't have form with this kind of thing eh.

It's a fairly standard night vision video. You don't think whoever was in the boat removing the mine would do it in broad daylight do you?

If you say so, looks far worse than others I've seen in the past but I'm no expert.

Still they took long distance photographs but no one investigated further and they just let some boat take it away later at night? Considering the situation it seems odd that was allowed to happen.

America's reputation has ensured no one will believe them.

Military aircraft and ships both use infrared/thermal cameras and they all look like that, especially when zoomed in. Ignore the stupid music but here is another and there are plenty more on Youtube:

I assume as it was Japanese flagged they were not allowed to approach it, and they wouldn't be allowed to fire at the boat anyway without going through many layers of authorisation.

Unfortunately our weak ass Government will. Jeremy Hunt has already said he has spoken to Pompeo and believes their version of events is the true one.

Ffs! We have learned nothing whatsoever. The UK is still acting like the US's bitch.

Special relationship

And, of course, there's this:
Guardian said:
Jeremy Hunt: 'UK must double defence budget in decade after Brexit'

Gulf of Tonkin Mk.II?
Certainly looks like that. And most younger Americans wouldn’t even know what that is.

Keep an eye on the US media as the road to war ramps up. You’ll see eerie similarities between this and the run up to the post 9/11 Iraq war.
The Washington Post later apologised but they’ll probably do the same again.

I agree.

Logically it makes no sense for Iran to be provoking the US.

Everyone who pushed us to war has blood on their hands.

The chicken hawk politicians love sending other people’s kids to their slaughter in quagmires like Iraq, Afghanistan or Syria. Iran will be no different only much bigger.

I’m sure there will be a new Haliburton ready to cash in on the destruction of another country and the military industrial complex will just chug along.

The commanding general of the greatest military force we’ve ever put into the field told us to resist what was coming and, just like we’ve done with Washington’s farewell address, we chose to ignore it.

True, although it's worth remembering that Eisenhower was a product of it himself, and as President he was in prime position to do something about it. Talking about it at the end of your Presidency isn't half as impressive as it could have been. Carter gave his warning speech in the middle of his term. He paid for it, and other things, but at least he did it.

The USA (not just Trump) will play the long game with Iran, waiting for sanctions to take their toll, and create instability within the country itself. After all the dubious western excursions into middle east conflicts the Americans will stay out. The thing that will light the blue touch paper is if Israel believes Iran has developed/or is near to developing a credible nuclear attack weapon, then the apocalypse becomes a reality.

A good article on Ike’s speech if you’re interested.

Hope the same creators of the Big Short and the Vice movies get to do one on the Trump administration - it's the only type of humor that allows me to deal with all bleakness of it all.

Weird that Vice’s video on Dick Cheney popped up on my Hulu today

How do they end up getting attached above the water level? Do they jump out of the water when a ship comes close or something?

Don't know anything about it, but read earlier that they're magnetic. No idea why they'd attach them above the waterline for all to see, or if it's likely they could be attached without being noticed.

Whenever I've seen them being used before it was below the water line. Above the water line the ship is not going to sink and it's harder to place them without being seen.

The only reason that I can think of for placing them above the water level is so that someone can video you removing them.
