Iran v US confrontation

Then stick to the old deal

I really think he's too unfocused and lets Bolton run things, get alarmed when he's about to declare war, and does this grand personal gesture to step back from the brink. Exactly the same happened in NK (with South Korea's help) and kind-of in Syria.

He did promise to be unpredictable in fairness, remember the whole “we are going to invade Mosul thing”?

I think he just wants a deal with his name on it rather than Obama’s, if the Iranians can swallow their pride they could probably get a better deal out of him in exchange for a bit of pomp and ceremony.

They need their own orb

I hadn't thought about that. It's probably true. The only issue is probably that a new deal is unlikely to be multi-lateral. Don't know how much that matters to the Iranians.

This was a really influential Twitter account. Anytime Trump commented on Iran this account would be first in the replies. Constantly retweeted as gospel by people across the political divide interested in regime change in Iran. And always, always pushing that MEK agenda and MEK ‘sources’ supposedly inside Iran. I followed it for ages until I noticed it had started feeding conspiracies to that Thomas Wictor nutter:

AN IRANIAN ACTIVIST WROTE DOZENS OF ARTICLES FOR RIGHT-WING OUTLETS. BUT IS HE A REAL PERSON?

Police raided four properties in north-west London - three businesses and a home - and a man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of plotting terrorism.

The man was eventually released without charge. Well-placed sources said the plot had been disrupted by a covert intelligence operation rather than seeking a prosecution.

This sounds like complete bollocks.

Danish news reporting that its two Norwegian ships on fire. Feels like a war is brewing.

Sky saying one vessel was on its way from Saudi to Singapore. Dangerous moment we’re in right now.

Details being updated on this thread:

Are Iran stupid enough to carry out these attacks? Or use proxies to do it?

It's a weird one. Not sure who's got an interest in hitting a Norwegian ship.

This has got false flag written all over it.

I believe there's another country in the middle east starting with I who stands to gain the most from the Arabs and Persians destroying each other.

It’s all very strange. The Iranians just the other day released an American resident they had accused of spying and imprisoned, which was seen in some circles as a tentative gesture of good will to Trump.

I suppose it’s possible that there is some kind of internal power-play going on with the Iranians, with different factions (e.g. the IRGC) pursuing their own agendas.

Well it doesn't make sense at all then

Some real funny business going on here

Most these Arab states are pretty much in bed with Israel, together trying to lean on the US to carry out a military offensive.

That's true. Maybe they think the Iranian military response is a bluff. I don't know either way tbh. As a relatively sane mind - i'd not do that if i was Iran, but then are the minds in charge of Iran relatively sane?

Iranian media also reporting that the Iranian navy rescued the crew from the tanker.

Seems to be the first official Iranian response:

Meanwhile Khamenei is on a Twitter rant:

I've reached a point where when I read about things like the oil tankers today I just automatically think it's the US trying to set up war.

There are hardline elements withing Iran that absolutely don't mind a war with the US. There are people in Iran that hate the JCPOA as much as Bolton.

God they're thick then. They would get absolutely steamrollered.

I don't think America would ever invade. The amount of insurgency they would face would be unprecedented. Would make Iraq and Afghanistan look like a walk in the park.
