Iran v US confrontation

Sickening how the world's police can attempt to start a war that will cost trillions dollar and millions of lives losts direct or indirectly with a simple hoax video.

Iran got nothing to do with the mines, it's a Japanese oil tanker, what could they possibly achieve by doing so?

All I've seen so far is people looking at very little and certainly debatable evidence and jumping to conclusions based more on their existing pre-conceived ideas of America, Israel, Iran or Saudi being a force for good or irredeemably evil. When there's loons on every side it's best to wait until there's a bit more evidence I think.

There's nothing identifiably Iranian about them.

They could just as easily be Israelis. Though if anyone said that, they'd be accused of concocting conspiracy theories. And yet if the US accuses Iran of the same thing, it's considered newsworthy.

The US is seeking to build consensus around the attacks on the oil tankers. Sound familiar?
It’s a tried and tested method for the warmongers.

Bellingcat looking at this incident.

One thing I’m confused about. If this “limpet mine” had blown a hole in the side of the ship then would the mine still be present and if present what would it be attached to?

Edit: just read the NYT and it points out that one of the mines didn’t explode. Helps to read it all.
Not a good incident for sure but not enough to start a war.

Holy.

I long for a day when a bill is passed, requiring all policy makers AND journalists who actively push for war and vote for it and spread the pre-war propaganda, to either enlist themselves to combat for the said war, or have an immediate family member enlist.

Then we'll see how "convinced" they are about their moral compass :wenger: .

These bastards and scumbags keep getting away with it because they have zero actual skin in the game.

Tory MP: my daughter is a war hero
me: where was she deployed
Tory MP: she is a manager at the catering factory in Hull

These from April, there are loads more along the same lines:

Iran may close Hormuz Strait if not able to use it: IRGC navy commander
https://www.presstv.com/Detail/2019/04/22/594063/IRGC-Tangsiri-Al-Alam-Strait-Hormuz

"We will defend our honor and will take reciprocal measures when it comes to protecting Iran's rights."

We will export oil as much as we intend: Ayatollah Khamenei

"this hostile measure will not be left without a reaction; they will receive the response to their animosity. The Iranian nation is not a nation that would sit idle in the face of hostilities."

UAE's participation in Trump’s game to jeopardize their oil exports: Iran’s ex-FM

"the Emirati sheikhs should know that taking a role in Trump’s dangerous game against Iran will pull down their oil exports to zero."

No country allowed to export oil if Iran’s oil export from Strait of Hormuz halted

"once Iranian oil is not exported via Strait of Hormuz, no other countries are allowed to export their oil through this strait."

Thanks,

2cents.

It isn't really that unreasonable to suspect Iran on this given the pre and post sanction threats.

I’m not sure they have many other options given the sanctions. They’re not just gonna roll over and die.

Ffs, Hunt used to literally hide from reporters when he was Health Secretary, and now he's up for a war?

Funny how these slimy Tory cnuts didn’t consider there to be ample evidence of the Saudis murdering Kashoggi, but are willing to take feckin Trump and Pompeo’s words at face value over some grainy footage.

Utter shallow excuse of a party.

All of it is really depressing. it's crazy the little regards these policy makers have for human life that isn't 'british or american'.

We all know how this will end. We will just be here to talk about it in a dozen of years and discuss what a clusterf it was.

And then the next set of politicians will distance themselves with a ‘I never supported that war’ while plotting the next regional carnage.

All the worst politicians have moustaches - Hitler, Stalin, Bolton, Leadsom etc etc.

Bolton's comments on his proposed draft to Vietnam.

He wrote in his Yale 25th reunion book: "I confess I had no desire to die in a Southeast Asian rice paddy. I considered the war in Vietnam already lost." In a 2007 interview, Bolton explained his comment in the reunion book saying his decision to avoid service in Vietnam was because "by the time I was about to graduate in 1970, it was clear to me that opponents of the Vietnam War had made it certain we could not prevail, and that I had no great interest in going there to have Teddy Kennedy give it back to the people I might die to take it away from"

So he rode away on his pale horse...

I didn’t think I could hate Cheney more.

I was wrong.
Yep. That was my thought too. In many ways it shows the W administration used scandals to hide scandals in a much more effective way than the Trump administration - and other than him doing virtually irreparable damage to our political system he s legimately also just a plain shit hole of a human being. I feel like Cheney and henchman are as more directly responsible for where we are now than anyone else.

Yes. That whole group of assholes that came out of the neocon reaction to the counter culture movement of the 60s have royally fecked us.

Yet he actively advocates to send other young men to die in Southwest Asian deserts and mountains.

fecking selfish coward
"First of all, I really like Dick Cheney for real. I get on with him, I think he's a decent man..." Biden
Oh I know

How do these assholes manage to get into positions of power? Shocking stuff.

Only evil cnuts has the means and willpower to climb that ladder.

I dont think people with conscience can handle all those top secret information without going depressed
Then what's the point of voting if the people we vote for are maniacs?

Thank you for our relatively affordable oil.
Whilst the US is no doubt thinking of it's own pockets it is nonetheless true to say that if oil can't be transported through the world then the resultant huge rise in price would be a matter of life and death to many in the poorer countries of Africa and Asia.

The challenge is to ensure freedom of the seas without any stupid wars.

There's no coherent strategy on the part of the US in terms of exploiting oil in countries it has or is considering invading. In fact if you look at the price of crude, it was considerably lower before 2003 than its been since then, largely because interventionism creates supply disruptions which reduces the amount of oil that is being sold globally and obviously makes the price go up, not down. This latest Iran issue is simply reducible to Bolton agitating for conflict and the administration looking for an excuse to strike Iran to create a counternarrative to all of Trump's domestic problems, as well as to assuage MBS and Israel.
