Internationals September (World Cup Qualifiers)

If Switzerland wins their two remaining matches they will top the group, can't believe Italy hasn't secured their qualification yet.

Imagine Italy not qualifying for WC after winning the Euro...

Unfortunately that's not true. We have 5 games remaining and Italy 3. We will still face Italy at their place. If we win our next three games (2x N.Ireland and 1x Lithuania) we will most likely still have to get a draw at their place.

So still a long way to go.

Sommer is the only reason Switzerland isn't losing 4-0

Really poor performance by Switzerland here, getting lucky with GK saves.

What a bs comment..

They were missing Shaqiri, Xhaka, Mbabu, Freuler and Embolo today. It was the first points game for the new manager Yakin.
Against the Champions of Europe (they lost the same matchup 0-3 at the Euros and didn't stand a chance there)....

So how on earth could you see a poor performance??
I'd say it was a fantastic game with a very good GK but they had their chances too.
And being good Goalkeeper isn't purely luck, you know...

Some really impressive German goals against Armenia. Adeyemi's goal but also Reus' after Werner's backheel. Good start to Flick's era.

Oh Swiss got a new manager....where did Petkovic go? Swiss finally break their last 16 curse at major tournament and he leaves. There was a bit of talk of Wenger perhaps taking job until 2022 world cup wasn't there.

Petko went to Bordeaux. Yeah his mission here was done by reaching the QF in a big tourney. And still hasn't felt liked enough or even appreciated by the fans.

Yeah Wenger was reportedly one of the options. As well as Löw, Favre and even Hitzfeld / Klinsmann. The team has grown and kinda picks itself so they were looking for a proven tactitian first.

Yakin was like the #6 or 7 of choices but here we go. I like the change, he's not afraid to risk something new.

I love Sommer. But as crazy as it might sound for you guys who probably only see him in big games for Switzerland, there is a reason why he's still at Gladbach.

I think he's a big game player and always rises with the occasion. Sensational for Switzerland and rightfully adored in here. But for Gladbach during a whole season he's a bit inconsistent with howlers every once and again.
Yeah I think that describes him pretty well. He's capable of spectacular games and saves, but sometimes I wonder if a taller keeper would make some of those look much more routine. While he's not that short at 6ft, most keepers are taller than that.

Are there any keepers shorter than him?

Last two rounds couldn't have gone any better for us.

Edi can't play away to Brazil (14-day thing) and the other two are home games so all the club need to do is make the government see sense re Uruguay not being a red list country under any stretch of the imagination.

Anyone else sick of Internationals? I enjoyed the Euros, but I think this break has come too soon after. I always get fed-up with this one at the best of times, we only manage 3 league games then we stop for these games.

Even if that is true, surely they could have prevented the match from starting instead of doing it midway through? For instance, they could intervene to prevent them from getting into the stadium or the dressing room. It's farcical to intervene after the match had started. Maybe they calculated that Brazil will be awarded the match once it starts and then gets abandoned.
Nah, mostly because there's no way to guarantee the points. Argentina decided to call the players, they decided to lied, they decided to avoid the agency, they avoided to lock the doors, they threatened to leave and don't play if the players were deported.

The way Anvisa ultimately entered the pitch and stopped the game was moronic, but it could easily be resolved if Argentina didn't do what Argentina usually does.

This happened in a WC qualifier match between Vietnam and Australia. Me and my mates are having a heated debate whether this is a pen or not.

You guys think this is a pen or not?

Judging by that video it’s impossible to tell.

Looks like it's been deleted. The video is no longer there mate.

the video is not available... but I am willing to take the opposite stand to you for the sake of debate
Thank you

Tbh I only want to know if it's a correct decision. We can't agree here so I think it's better to have some neutral opinions.

It's a copyright issue I think. Because I can still watch it here. Can you guys watch this one?

The Aussie arm was sticking out slightly. It would be a pen in the PL. Bit harsh not to give that, but can see why it wasn't given.

I think that's a pen. He moves his body so that his hands move into the ball's path. I know it seems accidental but why wouldn't it be a pen or am I not update on the ever-changing rules?

Nah, never a penalty.

Nah, never a penalty.
May I ask why please?

We're having a debate here and I'd need arguments.

As far as I know the new Fifa rules regarding handball doesn't care if it's accidental or not.

You can read it here:
Following this clarification, it is a handball offence if a player:

  • deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm, for example moving the hand/arm towards the ball;
  • touches the ball with their hand/arm when it has made their body unnaturally bigger. A player is considered to have made their body unnaturally bigger when the position of their hand/arm is not a consequence of, or justifiable by, the player’s body movement for that specific situation. By having their hand/arm in such a position, the player takes a risk of their hand/arm being hit by the ball and being penalised; or
  • scores in the opponents’ goal: -directly from their hand/arm, even if accidental, including by the goalkeeper; or -immediately after the ball has touched their hand/arm, even if accidental.

So you may argue this is not a pen according to the bold part. However surely he could turn around without raising his arm I think. It's not like he's jumping or sliding tackle.

Nothing is being decided today. There's still another 4 games after tonight's games. Norway still have to go to Turkey and Holland.
