@green_smiley have Annah's pick?
Copa America is a real pain in the arse to research. There's a few players that I'd love to look into more, but I'm finding meaningful information and footage hard to come by even for the 1970s editions.
I've mostly just hypothesized based on goals for/conceded by teams
I vote we all spend the next round picking Swedish players and watch Annah's meltdown later.
Sammer, Schweini, Matthäus together
Euro 68 was his peak tournament when he basically played a roaming second striker role. Not quite the touchline-hugging winger we typically think of and, in fairness, that was more reflective of his performances in 76.Dzajic has me puzzled though.
Yeah, that's true. His goalscoring record at the Euros is pretty insane considering the lack of service he had from his team and the all time great defenders and goalkeepers he faced.Euro 68 was his peak tournament when he basically played a roaming second striker role. That would be an interesting debate. He definitely wasn't an orthodox winger, but I'd argue that he was closer to Zidane as a free-roaming playmaker (albeit with a knack for popping up in the right places when the goal was needed). Although, again, he was playing for a distinctively average team where he needed to do pretty much everything, and with your supporting cast maybe he can focus more on purely attacking gameEuro 68 was his peak tournament when he basically played a roaming second striker role. Lato was an excellent pick, particularly in Round 6.
Could have gone with this picture.
Cheers Pat. Had a few options there but thought he slots in quite well as a goal scoring wide forward in there.Lato was an excellent pick, particularly in Round 6.
Can leave it with me.anyone to leave my pick with? Will be off for some time.
Yeah, for me it looked like he was operating as an inside-left who liked to drift out wide. It's a bit like the Eusebio debate - at times he drifted deep to get on the ball because the service was generally lacking. Whereas in a more dominant or higher quality set-up, he'd play higher. I think it's something that applies to almost any attacking player who starred for a second or third tier nation.That would be an interesting debate.
