India's tour of England

India will need to pick up wickets in the first session because it would be great for batting in the other 2

Fantastic innings. Played very well.

And gone! Terrific catch. Great innings that India needed, well played.

It was legitimately maddening to watch him at Trent Bridge, his deep square leg obsession is baffling. As is his short-ball theory obsession. At Trent Bridge he had the Indian batsmen all over the shop in the first hour of the 5th day, Rahane played two shots in the third man area so he dropped someone deep there. His head is gone IMO, a lot of try hard funky shit with the fields and no standard, common sense stuff. Had 3 ridiculously placed fielders on the legside to Dhoni and 1 slip I mean come on FFS.

Yep. Been saying it for years.

Problem is there isn't a natural choice.

Does there need to be anyone special? I think the issue is there is no one who isn't undroppable bar Board or Anderson and maybe Bell, I think the coaching staff need to support the captain better. Develop a plan, bowl to it, adjust accordingly.

I think it has been India's day. 290 is a decent score considering the pitch.

Also what has happened to Plunkett? I swear he used to be a pitch up swing bowler?

I think he's going to be a top, top cricketer for India for a while. Comfortable batsmen, accurate seamer, good attitude.

Thought it was a bit surprising that he didn't got MOTM in the firsr test. Took 5 wickets and scored 2 fifties.

Anyway he has a good head on his shoulders, if he can continue at this rate, then we can play 5 legitimate bowlers instead of someone like Binny.

Great day of cricket!

Absolutely delighted for Rahane! What a great occasion and venue to bring up your first test century. Really like the look of him.

I was joking with my mate that they'd give it to Anderson because he cried last game and they did FFS, my mate was livid Bhuvaneshwar didn't get it. Binny should've gotten dropped for this test I reckon, Yadav should come in.

Yadav isn't in the squad(just hit 90 off 66 balls in Australia). Hoping to see Varun Aaron get a chance.

Some people on here saying Rahane's got to prove himself to be a better batsman than Mathews...

Rahane = potential world class #4, showed that in South Africa in the first innings he played and then a fabulous effort in the last innings. A century in NZ. Superb judgment and immaculate stroke play.

Angelo Mathews = #6 bits and pieces all rounder who bats decently and recently has found a bit of form.

Hopefully the rains help in India's favor.

Rahane looked good y'day. England would have skittled them out for about 180 only for his resistance. India seems to have a tail that can wag as well atm.

Get 'em out sharpish this morning, get the heavy roller out and put a few runs on the board, hopefully. Gotta see the new ball off though. Don't want to be 80-5 at lunch.

Don't fancy England to get 250 plus on that pitch. Indian seamers are likely to pitch it up more that we did.

That pitch has more grass on it than my lawn!

Every team seems to have a tail that can wag against us. How many times have the last 4 wickets got 150+ against us recently. It is starting to get beyond a joke. Match fixing?!?! :P I just dont understand how every team we get them 6 down relatively cheaply yet the tail manages to bat like the ball is now a football and scores against us at will. The quality has been poor in the series thus far from both teams if i am being honest.

This looks much easier for batting than yesterday. Huge toss to win, I think.

EDIT - Not so easy you can play shots like that, mind...

I knew Cook would go beefore he got 15. I realise it's difficult and he wants to play through this patch, and I'd be surprised if any sportsman backed out from playing for their country because of their form, but he needs to be dropped to county cricket after this series. Either he or the selectors need to make that decision, it's clearly a man devoid of confidence and bereft of ideas.

Bell or Broad?

Bell or Broad?

Between those two, Bell. Broad just seems too hot headed and I don't like the laddish "get my mates in the team" culture that comes with him, which seemed to me to be part of why Finn was in the team for so long, despite not really doing much.

I mean in fairness to Cook, the pressure has been building since New Zealand and that is obviously going to have an affect on his play. I think he needs to take himself out of that pressure and build himself back up again.

Random question...

How much interest is there in the national team, amongst Indians, at present? Is there a post-Tendulkar apathy or is it remaining strong?

I can totally see where you're coming from.

It would be tricky, though. It's not like he could just drop in to county cricket and have all the pressure off. He'd be the closest watched county player by a huge distance.

A part of me thinks we should just take the captaincy away and see if his batting improves, with that.
