India's tour of England

Expecting this last wicket partnership to score runs for England. Won't be an Indian test match without tail-enders frustrating us.

Glad Stokes' appalling England form is finally getting noticed, been living of the reputation of one good knock.

No.

You could make a case for Trott , but Cook is another in a long line of mediocre batsman turned English captains. He has major shortcomings against Swing and off spin. Actually he's a lot like Grame Smith minus the good captaincy bits. Cook wouldn't average close to what he does now if this was the 90s.

In Bell's case he is the rare Englishman with flair and invention but he's too inconsistent. I still love watching him bat. England have no spine, guys like Brad Haddin or Dhoni with average ability are so reliable when you are 120/6 and need a good 70 or 80 to reach 250 but England have Matt Prior. Much as I despise everything he stands for Stuart Broad is England's best and most importantly reliable player under pressure.

I really don't think calling Cook 'average' is at all fair on how good a player he is at his best. Ignore his last year and a half, because before that he was very seriously being talked about as amongst the best in the world. You simply don't score that many runs as an opener if you're suspect against the swinging ball and I think he's proved he's a very good player of spin even in the rubble of England's tour to UAE he did ok.

Of course Cook would average less if he'd played in the 90s, but he was, and perhaps an be again, a very very good player.

So a lead of 24... Dhoni should have gotten Jadeja in earlier... slight edge to England.. very slight though.. India could get to bat during the best batting conditions.

31 overs is a massive workload on Kumar. Binny gets away with 10 overs.

Don't agree. Considering the condition of the pitch in the first two days, think it's India who have the edge here.

This pitch will get uneven on the the last day. A lead of around 270 will be match winning IMO.

Just to complete the set... I think it's all square. England have a feeling of momentum but India get to bowl last.

Love little periods, like this, when bowling. Nothing for bastmen to gain, all to lose.

Dunno why but fancy Dhawan to score here.

Agree with this, any lead above 250 will be cause England a lot of trouble. Anything close to 300 and above then India have won, particularly as England currently have plenty of walking wickets.

So far what I thought yesterday has been turning out true. The pitch has eased considerably even though there is uneven bounce here and there. All will come down to the state of pitch last day and can India get 10 wickets in that time(Will mean some other bowler sharing Bhuvi's workload). Though I agree that 270 can we be a winning target, that assumes India getting bowled out and 270 being the target. If they bat on, I don't see Dhoni declaring before required run rate is 3+.

A target of 350 in 115 overs is likely. Of course lot can change by this time tomorrow but that's my guess how it will go. England for their good should ensure runs aren't scored freely because they are not looking like threatening batsmen much. India should try to be more positive as game progresses and give themselves 4 sessions to bowl England out.

Was grant flower india's coach at one point or am i getting him mixed up with andy(i think) who was englands?

Andy Flower was England's.

Ahhh, that means grant doesnt have any coaching experience. Oh well, hope it turns out to be a good appointment.
Has he been selected as a coach for Pakistan?

That's a great ball. If he'd played at it he'd probably have gotten bowled through the gate.

Yeah it is, but it always looks ridiculous when a player gets bowled leaving the ball.

If England get to grips with how they're using Plunkett he can be a real weapon for England, has that knack of making things happen.

My jinx post worked both ways! First India starting to get positive and then England waking up to get 2 in 2. Interesting period coming up.

*Cue a boring period

Am I the only one who hates these cliches when something interesting happens in a test match?

"That's why test match is unpredictable" or "T20 will never achieve this". I mean I'm sure everybody knows that!

Reeks of insecurity a bit.

India paying for it's negativity. The ball and pitch was doing nothing and still we were going at around 2.5 runs per over and blocking out Moeen Ali.

I know it's test cricket and all, but you've to take the initiative sometimes. Teams like Australia and Saffers are excellent at this.

feck, England are actually in this.

That's a shocker though, no one to blame but themselves, mind.

Is this meant to be a WUM? Cook, 25 test centuries to his name. Average of just under 46 even with his crap form and he's meant to be mediocre?:wenger: The guys is still 29, still has 8 or 9 years of test cricket left. Most of the batsman playing won't average close to what they do if they were in the 90s, it was a different era with much better bowlers.

He's a good player but nothing special ,he's faced some pretty crap bowling in his career so far. Matthew Hayden (another player I love) had the good fortune of getting 30 centuries but wasn't as good as his stats show.

8 or 9? don't kid yourself. England play more tests than anyone else , he will last 5-6 more at best. I like the look of Ballance and Root. Boycott was talking Ballance in particular up in the Cricinfo podcast, Glad to see he's good. We need better players on all sides if Cricket is to thrive.

I'm a bit concerned about James Anderson. Will he ever get a rest? Bowls waaaay too much for a strike bowler , he's easily got 5 years left if they handle him with care.

Also, my respect for M.Vijay has increased like crazy. He knows as a TN Player he doesn't have the luxury of failing like a Delhi boy like Dhawan, so it's good to see him taking his chances.
