India vs England

It's quite ordinary for the fans of either side to claim that it's been a tedious day of cricket due to the pitch causing variable bounce. It's such a low score compared to the other days of test cricket. We are hardly comparing these scores with T20 innings.

What makes you sure of an England win? Maybe they will, but it sounds silly that you are basing this on England innings alone without even seeing India batting on this track. I'm not sure you are wumming like TR

I'm not wumming. I genuinely believe England is the better team, and they will win. I hope not, but that's what I think. Personally, I wouldn't mind test cricket going very heavily in the bowlers favor given how much the short form favors batsmen right now. This isn't a good pitch, but I enjoyed the struggle.

I watched the first hour and my word this pitch is slow as feck.

How are Indian batsmen in these conditions?

Not sure about Pujara and Kohli.

Sehwag can be very, very good. I've seen him hit a very good 80 on a pitch that bounced lesser than this, in a T20 game, at a strike rate of 150.

He'll take the game away from England tomorrow, I think.

I like it when the bowlers have the upper hand, but only if it happens because of their skill. I wouldn't mind a pitch turning from day 1, seeing Ajmal or someone else bowl a team out. And I enjoy watching matches in seaming/swinging conditions, because then the basic technique of a batsman gets tested.

But this is just tedious to watch. May be it's good in a one-off game, but imagine if India make a habit of this.. preparing pitches like this to square series(es? what's the plural?).

I stopped watching after a session and half, even though I was at home.

Oh I agree. I wouldn't want a pitch like this every game. I just don't mind something different. To be honest, I haven't watched too much cricket for a long time. This series is the first time in a while I've tried to watch (time zone issues).

eh, not bothered. These are just hopeful, optimistic predictions from a fan's perspective.

The only rational things I expected were England winning the series -- decent chance of happening still and for English bowlers to bowl well. You can't really predict what'll happen in a one off day in a test match..

To be fair, Sehwag is an explosive batsman and he has played quickly and negated some of the slowness of the surface by being street smart and being unorthodox. If he gets a big hundred. Surely India at least on paper have the batting line up to worry Anderson, Bresnan, Monty and Swann.

Virtually impossible to predict how India will fare though. The ball was reversing with just about 30 overs to go, and England have a better quality attack. How Trott and Bell threw away their wickets, I'd never know. India received their Christmas present already with the Finn injury.

Rightly, the pitch is being criticized by experts.

We're taking the term home advantage to a new level. The pitch is so fecking slow and that's why it was a boring day.

Non sense. Dhoni actually asked for the exact opposite pitch from this when led to people getting on his back for asking for doctored pitches.

He wanted pitches that would help spinners from day 1 with bounce and turn, this one does feck all.

Here is what Jadeja had to say about bowling on it -

"The wicket is too flat," he said. "It's slow. There is no turn. It's difficult for fast bowlers too. After pitching it loses all the pace. For spinners also there is no turn. All we could do was bowl stump to stump, and try to restrict their runs and boundaries."

Test cricket is such a brutal game. Played over 5 days. It's so technical with the differences in conditions etc.

Even so, a mere toss of a coin has such a huge effect on the game. It's always amused me.

Prior has been great once again, he usually gets out for around 60 (very valuable) runs though, so I don't expect him to make a hundred, but if we can scrap together 300ish runs from where we were that would be a good recovery.

Tomorrow should be a really good days cricket.

Alarm set for 4am, and i expect England to make 320.

If we get em for under 300 and get a start from Sehwag and Pujara, we might get some joy. Batting 4th is still going to kill us IMO.

Root has dug in well.

Apparently, they've monitored his performance through age group cricket till the Lions squad, with a lot of science involved.

He only has a first-class average of 38.

I think it's excellent how England take science seriously.

Australia as well.

Root is just rooted to the crease  The tail is slowly killing India, it's a long, slow and painful death. It'll be interesting to see if he can switch gears if Swann gets out and tries for a hundred.

Root is gone, that's one fine innings from a debutante. Now India have a chance to wrap this up quickly. Heap was dead no, it's very close to 320. Interesting to see how India fare in this pitch

Let's stop making prediction now, mate.

:lol::lol::lol:

Should i claim the jinx credit? It was the perfect length to Sehwag. First over and he plays inside to lose his middle stump. Very questionable footwork too. But Sehwag has never been one blessed with great footwork.

As Bumble said, he doesn't move his feet and never will ... out he goes. Need to keep pounding down a bit of seam now, just like India did.

Gambhir will probably run out Pujara or someone else. It's standard with him these days. Only good thing is that our batting is ridiculously deep. Chawla is a good batsman.

The ball was seamed as if it would come in, however the ball remained straight and that's why Sehwag got out. It was an excellent bowl.

Well to be honest it came back a bit but a small amount, but there's absolutely no way that he should have been bowled so cleaning. It's clearly a batsmen error.

Doesn't surprise me though, Sehwag always has been a bit dim in the first couple of overs of his innings, too sloppy, lazy and risky for an opening batsmen.

Btw I'm listening to hindi commentary as for some reason star cricket is not coming on my tv right now. First time listening to it and it's not so bad.
