India tour to Australia

The team batting last on a pitch like this will usually end up losing the match. I don't think any combination would have saved us.

I predict the team that wins the most tosses will win this series.

Yup.

Even on a flat pitch you aren't expected to chase 287 in 4th innings. People can keep harping on about an extra spinner but even then Jadeja isn't in Lyon's class.

Come on guys, we'd not be chasing 280+ if we had a full time spinner in the team. Umesh has bled a lot of useless runs too.

In the second innings he did, not in the first innings.

True that, but do you think that we'd have been chasing 287 had we picked Jadeja instead of Umesh? Jadeja may not be Lyon's class but he definitely can keep the runs down. Here are Umesh's combined figures across two innings: 37-3-139-2. Economy rate: 3.75.

I think the main difference between the two teams has been openers. Forgot about Jadeja batting too so that's a good point.

Even if we assume that jaddu would have conceded 40 runs less, we still wouldn’t have chased down 240.

I agree it would have made us a better team, but I still don't think it would have changed the result.

I couldn't agree more. Seriously gotta look beyond Rahul and Vijay now, particularly Rahul as Vijay is near retirement age anyway.

He can bat reasonably well, so I think he may have scored 15-30 runs considering he got a century this year. We may not have chased 200-220 either but the match would be a lot closer as a contest.

Yeah teams winning the toss have a big advantage outside of India. The match would've been a lot closer as a contest with better selection perhaps. Similar to Australia's 30-odd run loss in the previous one. I've been thinking that it shows how strong India are in India. Think we put together a crazy winning run in spite of losing a bunch of tosses.

Just heard a stat that the team winning the toss has won the test match 30 out of 43 times in 2018. That's pathetic.

Was test cricket always like that? Or are we just noticing it more now because we actually have a decent shot at winning overseas?

Winning a toss is such a huge advantage in Test cricket, especially for the home side. It's almost unfair.

Australia now know how to bowl to the Indian batsmen, what works and what doesn't on this pitch. Indians went in thinking the pitch will swing, committed to the pacers on a flat surface and got smashed all over the park. And you know the fourth/fifth day pitch will cause issues to the second Indian innings.

I'd like to see stats of win percentage of the toss-winning team. I hated the feck out of a lost toss in England, too. A coin toss nullifying the game.

Thanks.

To be fair test matches now draw more results than ever before as well. The draw is almost always out of the equation unless weather intervenes. England have won a lot of tosses recently but the test matches have been quite close too.

Vihari looks a very good batsman.

India have the best attack they have ever had and are probably 2nd only to the South African pace attack right now but it comes at the detriment of having an absolutely bobbins tail. The decision to pick Umesh was absurd considering they've known all year that the tail is a weakness. They have 3 brilliant quicks, if the wicket is conducive to pace what difference is a 4th pacer going to make?

Still fancy India to take the series with Shaw coming back in for Rahul. Umesh should never play ahead of Bhuvneshwar away from home and Jadeja deserves more chances away from home too.

Yadav for Jadeja wins us this match, no doubt.

Shaw has been ruled out of the remaining Tests. Mayank Agarwal has been named his replacement. All hail Rahul and Vijay, luckiest Indian cricketers on this tour.

Agarwal will play the next match. Think they will have to drop Rahul

Australia are set to level the series at 1-1 but the bad news is there's talk Mitch Marsh could replace Peter Handscomb for the MCG test.

I've a sneaky feeling that we might open with Rohit in the next match
We should open with Rohit.

Or push Pujara up and slot Rohit in the middle. Anyway Pujara misses only one over of the new ball.

I hope they do. If Rohit is fit they might open with him instead, knowing how Kohli’s selection process works.

Meanwhile, Kohli’s illegitimate son Pandya is heading to Australia. Now watch as we drop one of our top 3 pacers for this guy and a 75% fit Ashwin walks in for Umesh.

I'll lose my shit if they drop Vihari for Pandya at MCG.

Mayank to open and if they still want to have Rohit in the XI, make him open. Can't do any worse than Rahul and Vijay.

Did you hear his one yesterday as well

Kohli “if you mess this up now it’s 2-0”
Paine “you need to bat first, big head”

Dont particularly care what anybody thinks, Kholi comes across as a feckwit. People give Ronaldo shit by Kohli is that x10. I didnt particularly like Ricky Ponting or Michael Clarke's personalities, but both still had redeeming qualities.

It must piss him off that he will go down as one of the best batsmen of all time, but Steve Smith is better.

Atleast with Sachin and Ponting you could point to both players having better strengths in different areas and therefore both were on or about par with each other although I think Sachin was the better batsmen, but Ponting a far better Captain. Unfortunately for Ricky, it cut down his chances of going toe for toe with Sachin in the runs and hundreds races as I think it definitely affected his batting for a long time towards the end. Once the Captaincy was taken off him you could see a far more relaxed cricketer who actually enjoyed the game again.

Missed the team news, anyone explain why Ashwin didn't play in this test?

'injury' but maybe also the fact that he was absolute garbage in the 1st test.

Pandya comes in now to show more 'style' that the team was previously lacking.

Are we ready for a miracle? :D

Toss is such a poor excuse , India scored 283 in the first innings when the pitch was at its best and that's why they are losing tgis match . I don't see any reason for India to have conceded a first innings lead in this test match

The fact that you think Ponting was any better behaved than Kohli shows what an hypocrite you are.

It's humorous how wound up Aussies get over Kohli. Can dish it but can't take it. Typical.
