ANI reporting 43 casualties on Chinese side. This is war. Awesome year so far !

Is it normal for Indian journalists to post without providing any sources or references? I've seen some twitter trends in India UK before so please forgive me if I don't always believe everything that circulates on their network (for example, posting old video clips and misinformation during disputes with Pakistan, etc)

IE says 3, Wire says 10, that bluecheck tweet says 20. Has the army said anything officially?

Yes. Completely normal. It's wild west out here on reporting standards

Ajai Shukla has been getting horrible shit from bhakts and B&D anchors since past few days.
He's been vindicated today.

43 is the casualty count, the fatality count is said to be lower. Again the source is ANI, so take it with a pinch of salt.

Guys I want to add that Bangladesh, Nepal and sri Lanka has nothing to do with this
Nepal shot dead a couple of Indians on the border just a couple of days ago.

They also very recently changed their maps to show Indian territories as their own. Dear Leader is meanwhile, nowhere to be seen.

Is this as frigtening as it appears at a distance?

Two major nuclear powers fighting over a border?

What a wonderful year we are having, maybe we will see aliens next!

Aliens visit Earth.
Aliens:" You guys are fecked!"
Aliens leave.

Something is off. I do not believe that this fight with clubs and spikes took place. Surely both sides have some backup artillery in the area?
Some twitter posts say bullet wounds were present. This is a tinderbox right now. We cannot go to war, its a slippery slope. But who knows what CCP is thinking - it does not look like the previous incursions, this is on another scale altogether

Indian government sources said several troops were still missing and the death toll was likely to grow. The Guardian understands that fighting broke out at dusk on Monday when an Indian patrol unexpectedly encountered Chinese forces on a narrow ridge while on a patrol.

An Indian commanding officer was pushed and fell into the river gorge, sources said, leading to reinforcements being called and up to 600 troops from both armies fighting hand-to-hand, with stones and iron rods as weapons, until late in the night, with several men from both sides falling to their deaths. No shots were fired.

Tensions between the two sides had been escalating since late April, after China’s encroachment of thousands of troops into disputed territory along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), who set up camps and brought over artillery and vehicles and caught India off-guard. Chinese soldiers ignored repeated verbal warnings to leave, triggering shouting matches, stone-throwing and fistfights in key border areas, but on 6 June there was a meeting of senior Indian and Chinese military commanders and a commitment to disengagement was made on both sides.

@shamans some more detail

War is not a solution and never will be. This is not about acting all giddy by counting who killed more. Talks need to happen and things should be straightened up. De-escalation is the wise option for both sides.

It is when another country starts annexing territory.

The core objective of having a military is to protect the territorial sovereignty of a country from foreign powers. If another country just enters and takes over our territory without a single shot being fired then we might as well just disband the military and hope other countries dont just swoop in and take everything.

De-escalation will only happen if china knows we are ready to defend our borders, otherwise its a cake walk for them.

Unfortunately it already is. We are outnumbered, outgunned and out matched. Our defence spending is a fraction of theirs, and our border infrastructure is about 2 decades behind. The Chinese have steadily occupied areas in Eastern Ladakh across the LAC for several years now, and we have not countered.

Now they're in a part of our territory which has historically never been disputed, and moving back an occupying sitting force is a huge task. We are already in a tough position, there is no easy solution to this except either escalate to a Kargil like conflict or cede the territory. Our government seems to be choosing the second option. This is 1962 all over again.

No, i was reading south china morning post for a different perspective and it linked me to his tweets
He is the editor of Global Times a CCP mouthpiece. Another of his tweets says the Chinese haven't disclosed their casualty count out of their wish to de-escalate. Spin doctors!

What is also so strange to see that a lot of Pakistani twitter users are gloating at the Indian deaths. Armchair warriors who somehow feel pride at others misery. Am sure there are such idiots on all sides. War brings out the worst in us.

So true. Think our Govt sent the wrong signals with the whole Article 370 bit last year. China is making some large investments in its road project through that region and a home minister of our country claiming Aksai Chin would have made them uncomfortable. Not defending anyone here but no one can afford for this to escalate right now.

I read a great article that I had linked here. I'm no expert on geopolitics so not in a position to comment. But it seemed quite balanced.
