Iker Muniain

Munain was awesome tonight in the final. Bilbao lost but he stood out taking the ball forward creating and driving his team on. Excellent player and only 19.

Yes, tonight didn't lessen my admiration of him as a player. If there's any chance of getting him, I still think he should be at the top of our list.

He was crying because it was his last game for Bilbao and he's joining us this Summer. *taps nose*.

Ridiculous amount of potential in this lad, would probably cost upwards of 30m though and at just 19 it would be a big gamble and where would we play him? It would have to be wide on the left.

Great player, potentially world class but not what we need at the price he'd cost and probably on the radars of both Madrid and Barca :(

Well rumour has it that we're looking at Kagawa and Gaitan, and Muniain has played in the middle (second half today, the previous league match and probably on many more occasions as well) so I believe we can accomodate him if we wanted him.

I do think the fact that we signed Young last summer will rule out us getting Muniain though, even though I think he's going to be a better player than some of the other, somewhat similar players we're looking at.

Do Bilboa do business with Real,Barca generally? I know Zubizarreta joined Barca from them but that was a long time back.

Athletic don't like Real or Barca much no. They don't often sell players to either of them. I totally guessing here but I reckon that you see business between Real and Barca about as often.

Iker? More like Cry-ker. I slay myself.

Seriously though, very good as others have said. Would love to have him at United although I don't see it happening.

Going off topic I look at Martinez and he's about as good a fit for Barca as anyone, I reckon he'll probably take Puyol's place at the Euro's as well

Basques & Catalans are on the same page when it comes to disdain for the capital...it unites them in a sense

Didnt stop Alonso going to Madrid but that was a rare enough thing. Does the media in Spain think it will realistically stop any of them going there? This is the modern game and money talks.

If i m not wrong, in the same period, barca signed a winger from bilbao - goigotchea or something like that ...

But Alonso went to England first...there's a difference...Ethnic issues can absolutely make a difference but it always boils down to the particular individual

Irritatingly enough whenever I watch the La Liga roundup show on Sky they only ever talk about Real & Barca. Not seen them one talk about Bilbao and where some of their players may be heading :(

It'd be the smart move...But impressive how troublesome Falcao was for Athletic's stout defense...even Javi was being ragdolled...Amorebieta was responsible for two of the goals, IMO

I'd like Javi, sure

Players from Sociedad also seem less intense about the issue than players from Bilbao. They don't grow up with this fierce loyalty as much.

I take it as a given that it would be the ultimate sin for a bilboa player to join Real madrid from the fans viewpoint?

Muniain and Welbeck are examples of ideal modern attacking players. Not only are they technically excellent, they are also tactically excellent, and work exceptionally hard for the team.

Very true...It's hard to predict what can happen with Bilbao's talent pool honestly, there's been no recent precedent...They move very silently in the transfer market the few times they are ever even in it...It'll be interesting but I have to believe the money to be made will push them into the market to profit from their talent

Definitely..I think the scales are tipped in Barça's favor in terms of lesser of two evils...but the money involved might be the wild card

Muniain is one I could see fleeing the coop sooner than later...He seems wired differently than the other Athletic players and enjoys the limelight...I could see him angling for a move to a bigger stage

Aye, have to say I can't be arsed with Revista these days because there's little left after they've finished dissecting the big two's performances and discussing the latest tabloid rumours Ballague has just conceived.

Great little player, would love him at Madrid. Unfortunately I don't see it happening for the reasons discussed above.

He needs to leave Spain it will round him off as a player. Spend 6 years at Old Trafford then go back to the monopoly in Spain.

feckin'ell, the way they played against us you would expect them to have earned the right to get their name (a city's name as well) spelt properly.

Not Bilboa, not Balboa

BILBAO

BIL.....BAO

Not difficult

I like this kid. Been a fan of his for a while now. I personally think he's got more potential than Hazard or Kagawa and he shit's all over Giatan, from what I've seen. He'd be the best buy of the four, imo.

I think both him and Hazard are up there looking dead certs to become world class players, Hazard is just further along development wise and would therefore cost more, but both are brilliant and a level above the other two IMO. Gaitan hasn't really impressed me to be honest, it would be quite disappointing if we ended up with him considering the names we have been rumoured with.

Actually they're called Athletic Club but are often name Athletic Bilbao, something that the club and fans don't like. They really like their English roots. Makes them so more less Spanish :)

I like Muniain and he seems like a cracking player, but its just not a position we need to strengthen. Only way I could see him coming in is if all of Macheda, Berbatov, Owen, Park and Giggs leave (or retire in the letters case) or if there was a surprise departure of Nani. Even then the money would be better spent on CMs.

I think/hope Fergie is a fan.

It can't be more than two years before all of them aren't at the club.

only giggs / macheda will stay out of that lot, and giggs perhaps hasnt got 2 years left at the top level as a starter.

We must start too invest in quality players
