ICC T20 World Cup 2024

Very decent crowd in for a Monday morning in New York.

Supposedly ticket prices are quite steep. But I have a mate who’s in the states (ex Saffer) and says he’s going to watch SA v Sri Lanka with his son and it cost them around $100 per ticket. He says mostly the knockouts that’s steep and Indian matches. Haven’t checked it myself.

Yikes. I hope the Carribbean ticket prices are considerably cheaper than that. Highly doubt the locals could afford that.

Expecting to lose this comfortably.

SL's batting is woeful and the bowling can only do so much.

Not sure on the Sri Lanka logic behind batting first here?

SA full of finishers, you want them batting first not knowing what a good score is surely?

This pitch looks like a nightmare to bat on at the min.

Not sure why Sri Lanka didn't recognise this pitch is a disgrace and just try to tap twos for ten overs.

140 would have been a great score on this, even 130.

Commentary team has almost been more boring than this innings.

Rohit said when our squad was picked that he knows something about the conditions which he will reveal later, which is the reason for India picking so many spinners

That "something" is looking like we got them to rig the pitches

Terrible pitch and conditions. Utter stupidity to bat first with so many unknowns.

But I'm also quite sure we are making this pitch look worse than it actually is. Our batting is so bad.

If they are all going to play like this England should have picked Dom Sibley.

Wait why do they have a baseballer in the commentary box? Pathetic coverage.

Whoever decided to prepare a 1950s uncovered pitch sticky wicket for the T20 World Cup is a genius.

Traditional cricket is finally back, where you least expected it. :+1:

Far too slow to recognise the situation here Sri Lanka. Winning the toss and batting has lost them the match.

Angelo Mathews probably started his career on uncovered pitches, he might be the one to figure this out.

C'mon you Lankans let get 120 on the board and have a game on.

If this doesn't sell cricket to the Americans what will?

Assume the fact the pressure is completely off will mean SA stroll this, but keen to see if they can actually time a ball on this wicket.

Why must we be subjected to this useless baseball talk?

It's a shame there's hardly any noise about the US hosting this WC given that they're endorsing and sponsoring a genocide. It's in stark contrast to the footy WC in Qatar (and the somewhat muted noise around India hosting the 50 over WC).

I'm going to boycott the US football WC. It's amazing how the media and social media is used to manipulate the masses...we don't have a clue what's being done to us.

I'd have played Topley over Wood personally. Scots bat, could be another slow surface.

Don't finish work until 5pm so another delay but without losing overs would be most welcome!

To be fair though can't really complain too much on timings as 6pm Saturday for the Australia match is an absolute belter of scheduling!

As the BBC commentary rightly points out, the shorter the match gets (noting there's an extra 90 minutes built in so we're safe for the moment) the more of a level playing field it becomes.

Scotland will be hoping for a shorter match.
