ICC T20 World Cup 2024

Most of the fixtures are small teams. This is going to make the tournament feel longer than the ipl. The pre seeding for super 8s makes even the marquee games irrelevant

ICC has no credibility..
BCCI knowing the venue.. India Pak being in the same group.. the whole thing is bent.
Shir organization..

I think we will get enough shocks to shake it up. Pakistan and New Zealand both capable of messing the group up.

I much prefer Cricket tournaments with a proper group of associate nations in it.

Yes, hate this pre seedings bs. Just makes the group games like a glorified friendlies.

Great chase down from US. Good start to the tournament.

Fantastic knock to win it - serious hitting.
Bloody hell; I just noticed - how’s Corey Anderson representing USA here?

He’s also only 33. Thought he was older.

I suppose a little how David played for Singapore, before representing the Aus. Something around non-ICC test registered members? Or however you call it.

These eligibility rules today are bullshit, especially if you've already represented another country. It used to be difficult to transfer allegiance from one country to another, but now it appears you can do it at the drop of a hat.

On the other side of the coin, I've lived in the US for 40 years. If they need me, I'm available (it seems).

 amen! You should put your name in the hat and give those selectors a real headache! :p.

Yeah, I "guess" they go play for these "smaller" nations for a few reasons - not good enough to play for the host nation, try and help these "smaller" nations with their experience (on field and off field) and just generally trying to keep the competitiveness a little higher - without necessarily "transferring" allegiance - unless they hold a grudge against their "first/home" nation anyway. I think Roelof vd Merwe did similar to us a couple of years back - celebrating their victory against us like a mad man.

Alas, i agree with you though, those eligibility rules are BS, especially as nations then end up competing against one another at a world cup.

I can live with Tim David representing the Aussies. Even though he was born in Singapore, his Dad was Australian and he lived in Australia since he was a two years old. No problem with that. (I actually have more of a problem with him representing Singapore in the first place). Corey Anderson, however (and others like him) are really stretching the rules of eligibility. Shouldn't be allowed IMLTHO.

Anderson was based in the USA during the Covid period as his fiancée/wife is American. He's lived there permanently since and served the 3 years before becoming eligible at the end of last year.

I knew all that. Just think the eligibility rules are way too loose these days. Living in a country for a few years, IMLTHO, should not make you eligible to represent them (wife or no wife).

Dismal crowd for the Windies opener.

Having said that, 10am local time starts are ridiculous for T20s. Id imagine ticket prices are also steep too.

Gotta set everything to be prime time for India.

Supposedly ticket prices are quite steep. But I have a mate who’s in the states (ex Saffer) and says he’s going to watch SA v Sri Lanka with his son and it cost them around $100 per ticket. He says mostly the knockouts that’s steep and Indian matches. Haven’t checked it myself.

Bowlers was definitely convinced but he was quickly shut down by whoever was behind the stumps. Did Narine retire from international cricket or why’s he not here?
I didn't watch further, did that show hawk eye on it?

Been deliberately avoiding international cricket for a while. He'd get done for chucking in an instance by ICC and that would be the end of his career (unless he plays as a specialist batsman).

crowd isnt that bad by West Indies standards. Start time is also a killer and this was likely to be a stroll of a game, I'd imagine deeper in the tournament crowds won't be a big issue.

Yeah, pitched in line and the ball swung/straightened quite a lot, which done Pooran (as he was caught playing the original line). Was hitting middle stump as well.

Bloody hell. Had no idea. I thought his involvement in previous ICC events meant they had no issue with his action? Such a valuable T20 player.

Upset incoming? I’m at a pub watching this on the periphery. Was thinking of leaving but maybe should stay the 5 overs?

That was a lot closer than I was expecting. Though admittedly I hadn't paid a lot of attention to PNG before today. There was a moment there where I thought WI might not get the win - which I reckon would have been bad news for the tournament. Need WI to play well in the groups to help give the tournament the right buzz.

Good effort from PNG although the pudding of a pitch was a bit of a leveller. Interesting that they are one of the weaker associate nations, could be plenty of tight games.

Just read Phil Salt is a big City fan and has the number 61 on the back of his shirt in reference to the 6-1.
I hope he averages 2 this tournament.
