ICC T20 World Cup 2024

Saffers has done well in winning two very close matches but tbf they shouldn't have been in that position against those teams.

Yeah, absolutely. I don’t know what to think, really. Every single game the opposition has basically been in it until the end. Not sure if it’s a good sign to be closing these out or a worrying sign, considering the opponents. One things for sure, our batting needs to improve leaps and bounds.

How did Lamichhane play for Nepal?

I get the US leg is over (so no visa issues), but how did he get included into the final 15 squad?

Yeah they can't keep scraping past surely

If anything, it's very different to how SA played in world cups before where they would blow away the opposition and then flop at the end. Better to start slow and peak later.

The alleged rapist?

That's why he reportedly didn't get US visa. But Nepal's last two games are in the Carribbean.

Was curious as to how he got shoehorned into the squad as he wasn't part of the announced squad. Apparently Nepal had submitted his name in time to ICC separately, without disclosing it publicly.

FFS ICC just have a reserve day to mitigate bad weather, which is entirely predictable at this time of the year in the Caribbean and Panhandle. Absolutely farcical to have so many decisive washouts in a World Cup and no provision for rescheduling.

Agreed its pathetic to not have reserve days for what is 40 overs of cricket this world cup has become a joke tbh with all the delayed and washed out games.

You’d need a reserve day for 50 games. Logistics of that would be a nightmare.

Reserve day is not an option, cricket in general is fecked now going forward with climate change. I think there will have to be a time when they start playing on slightly damp outfields

And not even being able to cover outfields. It's pathetic from the ICC.

It would be tough logistically, but it’s probably only a handful of games that will actually need them. It would be better to play the game behind closed doors the next day rather than not at all.

If this game is under threat, has a team ever played less overs in a World Cup. What are we on at the moment, about 65? Batted for 24 overs.

You’re right - maybe they can pick based on weather forecast. I dont know how accurate they are given how early these things need to be planned.

I really hope this game happens. It’ll pretty much ruin this World Cup if Scotland make it through. Super 8s will look like the group stage again.

Upsets nearly always ruin later stages of tournaments.

It’s kind of similar to the last t20 World Cup where Australia the defending champion lost just one game to NZ and then got eliminated

England are screwed now, the forecast wasn’t even bad today so the idea that you can decide plans based on forecast doesn’t really work. Just an unlucky situation

England effectively the only nation to be playing knock out cricket from the get go at this WC now. Lose to Australia, out.

Looks like we're going home. That's the 2nd time in 2 years we're defending world champions and we're crashing out at the first stage.

What is the issue with having reserve days without fans. Is it the technology requirements? Not enough umpires?

India need to be eliminated by such an event for ICC to take action. Otherwise every tournament this will happen. Unfortunately India are just too good to be eliminated like that.

Why not have 2 days put aside after the end of the group games dedicated as catch up games? Fly everyone to the same area who can hopefully use more than one stadium even if they are played at the same time to maybe get 8 or so matches in between them?

Maybe not possible but an idea.

11 overs per side.

Hope rain stays away. England out would make the entire next phase a snoozefest.

If cricket has to grow as a global sport they have to fix this rain issue and find a good solution whereby weather doesn't determine who goes through. This is frustrating.

England just need to quickly get through the overs here. Get the spinners on from the start

England are taking too long to bowl. Hurry up ffs.
