ICC T20 World Cup 2024

Stop fecking asking baseball questions at the fecking cricket world cup ffs.

Cowardly performance by these batsmen. Almost like they don't want to go through to the next round.

Seeing the Florida forecast. Think that's Pakistan out for the tournament.

Unfortunately I think this is a safe assessment, weather there is bad enough that it's making the national news at the moment.

Can’t really blame them. England had the same chance in 2021 and let Australia progress only for Australia to win the World Cup

Flew in in time for the WI NZ game later on today. Super excited. Haven't seen my boys live in over a year.

Hopefully it doesn't rain out and we smash NZ

Issue or not it’s a shocking statement in public by a professional cricketer. It puts the rest of his team under a cloud. If Scotland win the game the Aussies are going to get destroyed

As a Yank who will be sitting down to at least watch the beginning of our match v. India, where could I go to learn the rules? Is 'Cricket for Dummies' a thing?

Jomboy, the baseball youtuber who pops up in the MLB thread quite a bit is commentating at the tournament (for reasons I don't understand), but it looks like he's done a 'cricket for people who understand baseball' type video:

His cricket knowledge seems to be pretty rudimentary, but hopefully it can help a total beginner out a little bit.

See ball, hit ball, miss ball, hit wicket (3 wooden stumps), walk back to dressing room.

Agreed. In fact think it's a bit weird for him to say that.. I assumed teams go out to win every game

Aussies are still rattled regarding the Ashes. The next series in Australia will be pretty bad tempered I think, that's if we give them a game (we don't usually).

I don't really have an issue with this TBH
I think people will see it as an Australia-England thing but it makes sense tactically to be fair. If you're looking at the back end of the tournament you'd rather England were knocked out than Scotland.

Longer-term though, they might regret it if the next tournament comes around and they find themselves reliant on England getting a result.

I think Hazelwood's comments highlight an issue with the format as much as anything regarding the integrity of the game/competition.

When you only have 2 "good" sides in each group, and one beats the other early on, one's inevitably left with a lot of say over the other. Shock horror - Australia would rather play Scotland again than England.

It's a real shame for the competition that Hazelwood has said what he has publicly. It takes away from Scotland's achievement of qualifying if they are to do so and it highlights the underhanded aspects of winning which tarnishes the game somewhat as it's looking to expand to new territories.

A way round this may be to have a format that is similar to the ODI world cup, or schedule the matches between the top ranked teams in each group for the last fixture.

Why is India trying to destroy USA NRR? Pakistan can still get through on NRR.

The NRR is irrelevant. If Pakistan win and USA lose the remaining two, Pak will have the better NRR. Unless all three games somehow go to super over.

The US have put up a decent showing here. If they can nudge it to 120 there's a little bit of pressure.

Agreed, they've played well. Pitch eased up a little bit after 3-4 overs, but India haven't used much variation

Steve Smith please do not go into commentary when you retire

Jonathan Trott's success as Afghanistan's coach is hard for me to reconcile with the player who retired mid-Ashes due to the pressure getting to him. I would imagine coaching Afghanistan is one of the tougher jobs in cricket.

Not knocking him - enjoyed watching him bat.. but always find it a bit odd when I see that he's their coach
It's a tough job but not necessarily a job where you are under a lot of pressure. Bangla or SL would be higher pressure jobs.

Well oncourse for a respectable defeat.

I was gonna say "hmm I'm not sure this is an easy chase for us" but felt I was inviting a pile on in this thread

2 down

Checking the table to see if we can get knocked out

You should still breeze this tbh, lose 2 more soonish and it could get sticky though.
