ICC T20 World Cup 2024

This is a joke of a pitch

What’s the highest score in New York this World Cup individually,
Not sure individual scores, but I grabbed this off the net quick:
"Out of the five matches played so far at the venue, the average first innings score has been 106 while the highest total achieved batting first and second is 137 and 113 respectively. Three more matches are remaining to be played at the Nassau County stadium between South Africa vs Bangladesh, Pakistan vs Canada and USA vs India. As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on the New York surface once again to see how it evolves with time"

Pant's score must be up there and Miller did well the other day against Netherlands.

edit: KM beat me to it.

Miller 59

Thanks. Bad advert for the game..

At least if Miller and Klaasen can bat long enough here, we’ll post a decent enough score here to defend - I’m not even sure what a decent score on this pitch is.

got enough to declare rn

How competitive is this tournament (are we seeing top tier players or is this most good cricketing nations B and C teams)? As someone who doesn't follow cricket, it is surprising to see that the USA even has a team, let alone is competitive.

These teams are definitely the A teams. There are a lot of factors at play as to why the US has been competitive so far though, cricket matches are heavily influenced by factors such as who wins the toss (bat first vs bat second) and environmental conditions (ambient weather, surface quality of the pitch). The US players are mostly immigrants from other tier 1 countries and the US born players have spent significant amount of time overseas. It can also be argued that the tier 1 team the US beat is woefully out of form too. The India match will tell us more.

They gave 2 fairly “iffy” calls there IMO. Neither should’ve been given and both were. One overturned and the other umpires call. Unlucky

And one killed the four leg byes. Huge moments.

This pitch would be a great Test venue for what it's worth . With all the South Asian money in New York and Texas seemingly, people will be forced to love this wicket for years to come I fear.

With that said, the lost 4 leg-byes surely needs to precipitate a rethink on that rule. Seems like a pretty massive loophole.

kind of thing England will win a WC on

If England won a game v India on a rule like that it would be changed by the time the teams got to the changing room.

And vice versa tbh.

They showed the ridiculous World Cup win again the other day and that Stokes thing will never not be funny. Just devastated it was against the nice Kiwi lads and not the Aussies.

I've seen the WC for just the last couple days - been good

What do the rest of you who've watched more of it think?

I think super 8s may be a bit underwhelming with so many upsets, though?

Like the format if 8 competitive teams are there

It's had a stronger start than the last few ICC tournaments despite the usual scheduling shenanigans.

It can handle losing Pakistan, England and NZ. But it would need the Windies to make the Semi's to juice up the atmosphere ideally.

The fact that England are flying blind is a significant complication, however. In order to nudge their NRR up ahead of Scotland's over their next two games - thereby ensuring they would progress even in the event of the narrowest of Australia wins on Sunday (ie, via a Super Over) - Oman and Namibia need to be defeated by a combined margin of 117 runs or more.

Very doable. I hope England progress.

Aussies could take a tactical loss if it comes to that and send England packing.
