ICC Cricket World Cup 2011

Was just celebrating in my locality. The roads and highways are thronging with people celebrating all around. And this is happening all across the country.

Finally!

I have never felt so good about the Indian cricket team. A wonderful wonderful win! They have defied my expectations.

So easy to be confident after the event.

You were all shitting yourselves after Viru, and Sachin got out...

Plastic fans ;)

This is just unbelievable! I m speechless! A brilliant sending off for Sachin and Kirsten in particular.

PSmith, does Sachin in your eyes become the best batsman ever now having won the WC? Even though he made only 18 in the final.. sound logic that.

India are the third team alongside West Indies and Australia to win the WC more than once now. Brilliant!

Anyone else think Gambhir should've been man of the match?

How are the celebrations in India? I bet half of the people there won't even sleep tonight. I know if I was there, I would not.

The media and the news channels will be going crazy tomorrow. They will be interviewing pundits and players the whole day tomorrow.

Congratulations to India

In recognition of your triumph, I'll save my 'one day cricket is a dying format, I wish they'd rid of it altogether to make space in the calender, Twenty20 is a far superior short form of the game' rant for another day out of respect :)

I'm watching Star News: When was this programme with Sharukh, India, and Pakistan team enjoying themselves recorded?

What a great sight.

Just got back. Bloody hell brilliant game, brilliant atmosphere and absolutely crazy traffic. Missed most of the United game though :(

Need to download it now :D

Its 2:40am here and it doesn't look like I'm going to be able to get any sleep for a while. Serious noise outside!

Not really, had Pakistan made it to the final we would have trounced them (AGAIN). Ergo, India should at least beat them if not trounce them.

You generally do well against lanka. Doesn't stop them from being much better than your lot. Sometimes teams inexplicably have a good record against another.

Firstly, congratulations to all Indians and specially Tendulkar. Really pleased for you and glad Sangakarra isn't lifting the trophy.

Amol, cricket in Pakistan is a beast in a realm of its own. Trying to understand it drives Pakistanis :wenger::wenger: so what chance have others got of comprehending it. My hair's turned white since Rashid Latif's website and Justice Quyyum's report were made available and trying to understand the nuance's of wins/losses the nation incurs.

Back to India. WELL DONE GUYS. Enjoy it, the feeling will be immense for months, even years.

Brilliant!!!

I was in a pub... have lost my voice. Celebrated at about 5 different places. People dancing on the streets everywhere in Central Delhi...Police are there but no one gave a feck. Will never forget this day, ever.

Anyone else think Gambhir should've been man of the match?

Absolutely. He played an incredible innings after coming at a time we were wobbling. Dhoni was brilliant but he did have the base that Kohli and Gambhir had built up.

I was really disappointed by Gambhir's wicket. Such a stupid way to get out :(

PS: Has anyone figured out how on earth Mendis got replaced by Randiv?! :wenger:

A drive that would take my 30 mins took me 2.5 hours

Had to stop at a 5 star for some coffee midway because traffic just refused to move! Historic day. The celebrations on the streets were the best thing I've ever seen.

People on top of cars, on windshields, hanging out of windows and screaming and shouting and chanting. Beautiful!

And why Murali never bowled instead of Kulesakara, thus the ill feelings between him and Sangakarra. But those are questions for another day, when more interviews are conducted.

I can't ever remember a better tournament.

Definitely back in love with cricket after many years.

Rio Ferdinand was right again today. He said India would win against Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

That is crazy. I really wish I was back in India celebrating.

Hello ladies and gentlemen, I'm sorry I didnt join you for this one. But what a fecking night for Indian cricket and indeed India.

So before I say anything I'd like to say,

Fecking hellllll we just win the bloody world cup, INDIA are the champions of the world!!!!! A billion rise in unison because of 11 great men who were fecking brilliant ay ehat they did. Yes and I mean you too munaf. All the pain you caused me in the past is forgotten :D

Id like to ramble on for a few moments if you'd have the patience to read.

I am elated tonight.15 years of watching Indian cricket, and thouh we knocked on the door I dont think I truly believed this day was on its way. Whether its in 2003 where on man took us far or in 96 where two men did so, we were always the triers of world cricket, barring a superhuman. We went to Sa and aus and duly got our annual smashing. Got ftp wc semis and sometimes further but fell short because cricket is a team game.

Today were there and I can hardly believe. We are world champions. And we aren't just world champions who won unexpectedly. We entered this tournament as favorites and the best side in test cricket and we fecking won the damn thing.

Teams win world cups not players and that was the tale of tonight . Sachin in 03 murdered the field and carried us match after match but was undone in the final by our bowling because the team weren't the best. Today as a unit we proved worthy of being called world champions.

This was emphasized none more than dhoni, a man who had been rubbish so far with the bat in this tournament, who stepped and delivered in a final with a magical knock to take his team home. Or even gambhir who had gotten starts but never carried on all tournament, but today he did. On other days zaheer did or sehwag did or sachin did or yuvraj did. Teams win world cups with players playing parts. Today team India won the world cup with many players playing a part.

wha an incredible night, just got back from the bar. Brilliant brilliant night.

I can't ever remember a better tournament.

Definitely back in love with cricket after many years.

I have never watched an entire cricket game (50 overs each way) in the past 5 years. But I did against Australia and against Sri Lanka. I wish I had finished the Pakistan game too. I am just exhausted now after pulling another all nighter to watch this game but it was worth every bloody second!

But how can I not mention the god of cricket on this wonderful night.

It's very easy for those outside India to appreciate the glorious genius of sachin tendulkars god given ability but few outside India would understand the giant this man is mentally. Few understand just what kind of pressure the great man has faced in these 21 years. I cannot even fathom what kind of man would make it through that sane forget set new boundaries along the way.

What I witnessed tonight from sachins perspective tonight was redemption and indeed reward. Like young virat so aptly put that 'for 21 years he has carried Indian cricket its only fair that tonight on our shoulders we carry him'. This was for those 21 years of bringing happiness to Indian faces, for being treated like a god and actually living up to it, for keeping the dream alive because sachin was still there and for being a genius who was a gentleman.

And no he didn't dance on other peoples tunes. Forget the final, sachin played a huge role in getting us there. In every big game barring the final sachin made a big difference and a starring role, be it hundreds against England and Sa or a fifty against aus and 85 against pak, sachin helped us get there.

Watching sachin carried around by the Indian team waving the flag is a feeling I can't describe. Watching his face as he soaked in the moment afnd excitemebt, just seemed so apt. This man is the greatest in the history of the game. And he's ours. A living legend and indeed the god of cricket. For the millionth time, I salute one sachin tendlukar for everything he's done.

I can't ever remember a better tournament.

I agree. I think its the best sporting event I have enjoyed since the Los Angeles Olympics in 1982. And I got to personally attended a load of games in Bangladesh & India and so got to experience some of the fantastic atmospheres that were generated. Actually my father in law went to the final today, cant wait to hear his stories!

Indeed Sults.

A great month and a half for cricket. I'll go as far saying I haven't seen a better sporting event. It was that good. The quality, the fever, the battles and the scripts were unmatchable.

And of course I'm overwhelmed by emotion. Not only did I see something I had grown up dreaming to see in India winning a world cup, I also saw another dream of my childhood hero win it. Stuff of dreams this.

Best day of sport EVER.

Nadal hammers Fed, United come from 2 down to win 4-2, Arsenal and Chelsea draw, Liverpool lose, Jose's home record goes, Milan hammer Inter and India are the Champions of the World :D :D

I'm sorry but nadal hammering Federer in some pointless tournament and real Madrid losing, and India winning the world cup can't be in the same sentence.

I am not as big a cricket fanatic as you are and for me football and tennis > Cricket but yes I agree India winning is far bigger than the two things you've mentioned but all these events happening in the same day is just sensational for me personally. The day (4 30AM) started brilliantly with the Nadal win for me and after that it just kept improving :D

Didn't even know about the Arsenal and Chelsea results till I managed to charge my phone at a hotel cafe 3 hours ago. Was absolutely shocked! :D

In the most polite manner possible,

feck off with your nadals :D India just won the wc. Yippieeeeeeeeeee! :)
