Ibrahimovic + Thiago Silva

From Espnsoccernet:

Thiago Silva has agreed to move to Paris St Germain on a five-year, €7.5 million-a-year contract, according to report in Gazzetta dello Sport. The report claims the terms were agreed last month.

He never was worth 30 million quid

If we see the market and considering that Torres costed 50M, Berbatov 31M, Carroll 35M, Benzema 35M EUR etc then Ibra who is/was superior player to all of them (debatable in Torres case but probably Ibra was slightly better) then some years ago Ibra was worth much more than 30M.

Sell these 2 for 60 million, get the 2 highest earners off the wage bill and bring in 5-6 new faces who are younger and don't want excessive wages. Maybe a good idea in the long run.

The problem is that Milan don't like that much young players.

About the move, I think that it's a very bad move for them, I doubt that they will qualify for champions next year. Losing probably the best defender in the world for the last season, and the best striker in Italy cannot be considered a good move.

Supposedly it's been confirmed by Burlusconi.

Silva could be on far more than €7.5m, in pounds that would be just over £100,000 a week? You'd think City would pay him near double that based on their wages so far.

Milan's outs list is incredible

Alessandro Nesta
Filippo Inzaghi
Gianluca Zambrotta
Gennaro Gattuso
Mark van Bommel
Clarence Seedorf
Thiago Silva
Zlatan Ibrahimović

Y'know, if Milan are as desperate for money as has been made out, they might well take Carroll on loan.

It's probaby a net figure which would translate into much more than that in England.

Looks like FFP is finally forcing clubs to act. Its good to see.

3-year contract on 12,5 millions a year

Ibrahimovich will be 31 in October and is currently one of the highest paid players in world football. To get him off the wage bill and get 25M Euros for him, when in all fairness his best years are probably behind him, I think is a pretty sound move for Milan. Maybe not in the immediate short term but certainly in the mid to long term. PSG can afford to blow that sort of money on a player that age and will probably have to give him a 4 year contract at 12-15M a year gross. Can you imagine United blowing that sort of money on Ibra? We'd all think the club had gone mad.

The Silva move is a little harder to justify but at the end of the day they clearly need to sell to buy and getting 40M for a center half is pretty good going.

On the striker front they have Robinho, Cassano (who is now back from his long lay off) and Pato. Pretty good options. With this money they can inject some much needed young blood.

Milan have always operated very shrewdly in the transfer market. Not long ago they were being chastised for selling Kaka. At 60M Euros, that now looks a spectacular bit of business.

Definitely shrewd, borderline money laundering between these two clubs

Just seems like a strange move for PSG too, do they really even need a central defender?

The Parisiens are going to love Ibra

Would be interesting to know how the rest of France views PSG. They've only ever won the league twice and are bankrolled by an overseas owner. Are they as disliked as Man City/Chelsea are here?

Lots of clubs with fierce local support in Ligue 1...PSG is viewed a bit like Paris by most of France, 30-70 split between envy & disdain...Qatari ownership won't help local support but everyone rallies behind a winner

They looked pretty lackluster everytime I saw them last season

Let's not forget the money laundering Barca did with Zlatan ;)

No one gives a $hit in France about soccer.

Not comparable to England at any rate.

Cracking bit of business for milan.

I checked Swiss ramble but there was nothing and cant find it on the net. Anyone know what psg's accounts look like for last year? Ebitda, rev and wages/turnover would be grand! I know we have been mentioning ffp and psg a a joke but from my uninformed impression, their rev is no where near enough to sustain this level of spending.

Good points, especially the last one, but it still seems to me like the dumbest sale of the summer until Roma sell cheap on Borini. I can't see Milan returning to the European elite for years if this goes through. I know they have serious money problems but the two they're selling are irreplaceable, carrying the team for huge stretches last season. They're players that bring out the best in those around them (like Boateng, Robinho & Cassano), as much as I love the latter those are not the players you rely on to do it by themselves. They've lost enough leadership this summer as it is. I think they'd be so much better off trying to sell off as many lesser parts as they can while maintaining CL football (which I think they still could after selling Robinho, Pato, Boateng) instead of going with this bold strategy. Be interesting to see if the likes of Cassano now ask for moves like they said they might.

PSG are nuts, it's going to be crazy when Ancelotti and Leonardo move on & the Serie A element's blamed for bad performances. I was pissed enough at them taking away Ménez last season and Lavezzi this year from where I could watch them.

Dare I say every single team on Earth could use a defender like Thiago Silva.

Bisevac and Alex appeared to be their main duo before with Sakho fighting for his place. Silva will be a definite starter, probably with Alex.

I have long had high hopes for Sakho, not sure this sort of move is good for the local product...Then again, competition like Silva should only make Sakho better as well

Yeah, it helps when Leonardo and Ancelotti are running the show at PSG

I've literally never seen him play but he's supposed to be on his way out. Milan wanted him so perhaps they should try to make PSG throw him into the deal.

If terms were agreed last month and Silva signed a new 5 year deal with Milan last week what the feck is going on? Is that allowed?

Why not? Seems like Silva was given permission to speak to PSG, plenty of clubs do that before deciding on whether to accept the offer I believe. Not too sure on why a new contract was signed but I guess Berlusconi's pride has been caved in for some common sense. 150m euros saved over two years, according to the man himself.

Nice wad of Bunga Bunga money there.

Depends. Don't think it's really a cracking business by them selling Silva. They've lost Silva and Nesta now. Nesta played half their games. You can't replace that in 1-2 seasons. They aren't gonna get anyone better.

Zlatan is a great player but I understand selling him considering his age and his wages and what they are getting for him.

Is Zlatan now the most expensive player in history? Does he break Ronaldo's 92m?

Milan may well be in a bit of trouble next season, I wouldn't be shocked if they don't make the top 3. Ibra held that team together the last two seasons, and Silva made sure his goals meant something.

Can Lavezzi play wide? Seems a bit of a waste to buy him and put him there after being so good as a 2nd striker, #10 type.

For Napoli, he often played "inside right". He wasn't a winger, but not right up front. He sort of drifted in off the right in behind Cavani. He'll be great wherever he plays.
