How peaceful is Islam?

No - we've been through this.

Again, debatable. Aisha's age ranges from 6-19. Even if she was on the younger end of the scale, using child and adult in the sense we do today, isn't the same as 1400 years ago.

A person is considered an adult once they reach he age of puberty. For women this is when they begin their menses. This is a sign that their body is biologically and physiologically capable of bearing children. It's only recent moral relativism that has given an arbitrary figure of 18 as an adult in the UK, 21 in the US, 13 in Spain, 15 in Germany, etc.

It's true we can't judge people from olden times by modern standards, but why is there such a range in ages for Aisha? Fwiw, I'd heard she was 9, possibly 11.
Still a child, in most peoples eyes, even back then, surely.
How old was he at the time?

That's good for them. I'm aware that Syria used to be quite progressive, especially in the bigger cities. With the war and ISIS, I'm afraid things will change for the worse. I have experience with Turkey and in my opinion it is a progressive Muslim country too. If all Muslim countries were like that things would be much better, however it looks to me that there is a higher chance of the progressive Muslim countries to become more conservative and fundamental than the other way around.
You still miss the point, blaming Islam for bad cultural doings and uneducated people is wrong, as I said Islam urges women to get educated and forbid forced marriage, how can you keep missing the point that disprove this Islamophobic person is beyond me.

I would imagine so. I doubt it is in equal measure though.
Still, since Islam urges people to get educated, how can you blame people doing the contrary on Islam? Muhammad SAWS said if one died(be it an accident or killed for some reason) while trying to get educated they are a martyr.

Are men and women equal in Pakistan?
The inequality in Pakistan lies in the gulf in wealth between the rich and the poor.

In terms of opportunities to succeed, yes, both men and women have the same access to education and the same access to civil liberties. We did have a female president not too long ago.

Still it's easier to come out with half assed research and base an illogical and unsubstantiated conclusion on that, amirite?

If you're looking for logic and fact-based evidence in a thread about religion, you'll be waiting for a while.

Still Islam is to blame for all injustice, your facts shouldn't be considered in this debate.

I saw this post on Facebook. Interesting words out of the mouth of this Palestinian mother.
Edit: Summary of the video as posted on youtube:
from Israel's Voice:
This Palestinian mother was shown such kindness by Jews when her young son was treated, free of charge, for his heart problem in an Israeli hospital. She freely acknowledges this, but she still hopes that her child will grow up to be a martyr. This video is a rare look into the mind of someone who worships death and destruction. She describes the difference between her culture and all of Western society perfectly when she explains that for her people life is meaningless.

The Sunnis are all alike, there some difference on some small stuff between some Sheikhs but no about killing of people and the most important stuff, I can't talk about Shia as I know next to nothing about their religion.
Yeah, the Wahabbis and the Sufists are all alike.

Matey, you are very biased.

Actually what I meant was the Shafis and the Hanafis etc etc, didn't think of wahabis and sufists when I wrote that, I don't know much about those two sects though.

Sure, Shafis and Hanafis are quite alike each other, but still there are differences. For example, an Egyptian is quite different to a Turkish when it comes to religion.

It goes even deeper, Hanafis in the Indian subcontinent are typically divided between Deobandis and Barelvis (Ahl-i Sunnat), though even that is a simplification of the matter.

Me and my Muslim friends are all Shafis and Hanafis so I forget about other Sunni sects.

Is it just me, or does this woman sound like a complete psycho?

Certainly. I guess something similar is when it comes to other schools of Sunni. And in the most extreme cases, the Salafi/Wahabbism.

Then of course there are Shia which are quite different. And then of course, the Sufi's when there are large differences between minisects there (interestingly, it seems that there are both Sunni and Shia order of Sufis).

I would say that Islam has probably even more differences between sects than Christianity.

Yeah Israel is such a peaceful country

I know she is, I'm not defending her at all, but the manner the news is written in is ridiculous, the kind Israelis save a Palestinian kid who is genetically evil.

Do you think the Jews planned this somehow? Carefully selecting the young boy in the knowledge his mother was disturbed?

I'm not denying that this was put out for propaganda by the Israelis but the woman's words are pretty damning in regards to the attitude of Muslim Palestinians.

There's still two side to the story, both sides are violent so you can't say one is violent without saying the other is too is all I'm saying.

I agree. It's a cycle of violence that is being perpetuated by both sides.

People can use moral relativism as an excuse. "Prophets" who claim divine inspiration can't. Because...obviously. Regardless of whether or not the 10 or 13 year old had reached puberty, I think we could all agree that for someone who supposedly forbid forced marriages, marrying someone that young causes a doubletake. It's hard to make a case that someone that young could consent to becoming the third wife of a 53 year old.
