How bad have our injuries really been this season?

Right, our injuries are all down to bad luck and not down due to the wonderful training sessions that the manager carries out.
They should be training extremely hard and there should be no excuses. It’s all about toughness. Like running 15 km in heat, or lifting weights for several hours, that will teach them.

I think Malacia and Mount are the real freak ones you can't really account for. The rest it's hardly a surprise. Shaw, Varane, Martinez, Martial, Casemiro, Eriksen - are we at all surprised they've spent large portions of the season not playing?

There is definitely something array with our training all these injuries to defensive players. I think ETH's chaos ball is asking too much of our defenders.

The CB's are up and down the pitch like full backs in this system. They can't handle it there bodies are not used to it, and it's showing.

We could try maybe trying to give them rest periods in games by having some controlled possession but no get the ball up the pitch rapid/push the defenders up/give ball away trying to force something/ initiate narrow press which gets bypassed have the CB'S charging back towards there own goal again. Rinse and repeat. No wonder the defenders have been dropping like flies.

This is quite possibly one of the most ridiculous takes I've seen yet.

There is no excuse for a player not having the stamina to get up and down the pitch, CB or otherwise.

Fitness has been an issue for several years now, if this is the growing pains to go through to get them up to scratch then so be it.

Ole tried it on his second year to have them pressing with high energy, we lost 3 or 4 players all olin the first half against Liverpool. For too long it hasn't been good enough, and whether it's ETH or someone else, the players need to get themselves up to the same standards as the other top teams.

Our injuries have been very bad. Look what happened to Liverpool the year they lost VVD, now look at United Shaw, Martinez, out for most the season. Varane, Casemiro out for large portions of the season.

Then you add Mount, Malacia etc.

This week Martinez, Varane, Shaw, Maguire, Malacia , Mount , Kwambala … if city had those injuries all concentrated mostly in defence they’d most likely not win.

The advantage United have is ETH will try and be pragmatic

For feck’s actual sake. So now we don’t even have one fit centre-back. All six of them are fecking injured. Beyond a joke.
I'd rather Arsenal get the points to help them to the title than City to be honest.

Our season is fecked anyways.

99 minute high intensity games that we fail to kill off. Lack of rotation. Lack of tactical nous has us running around like blue arse flies to compensate. Over training. Crap facilities. Old players, especially at the back. Slow players, especially at the back. Shaw's leg.

It's lots of things really.

Our injuries this season have not only cost us the treble, they've stopped EtH from achieving world peace and ushering in a new golden age for humanity.

Correct

Yup. It’s a perfect storm of shit.

Same here. Arsenal winning the title is the lesser evil.

They should have enough to beat us. Not that I'm hoping for a loss but they're very close now and they will be highly motivated to give Arteta his first PL title. We are in the shitter currently and there's nothing going for us.

That said it is still Arsenal though. Serial bottlers and I won't be surprised if they self implode and let us walk it in.

If we get 6th with this injury plagued squad, we’d almost be guaranteed Europa football next season even if we lose the Fa Cup final. So we should be aiming to win all the remaining games even if it would seem unlikely.

No other top team plays as open as us and leaves there defence so exposed causing the CB's in particular to do so many high intensity sprints. Other top teams largely control possession and territory better. Giving there defenders realitive rest periods leaving them springing back towards there own goal less.

Do you not think it's a bit strange that we have had an constant defence injury crisis basically all season, despite the fact we actually have pretty good numbers squad wise in the defensive positions.

Or is it just 'bad luck'?

Does no one remember our annual CB crisis under Fergie? Was that ETH's fault too? We've been in the top two 'injury tables' for almost all seasons since they started tracking it. We used to have legends like Phil Jones, or Hargreaves, or even later-stage Rooney who would be constantly missing.

Some of it is luck. Martinez's injuries are just unlucky, nothing to do with training or the manager. Shaw and Varane were sicknotes before ETH even thought about United. And let us not speak of the former player Antony Martial.

I get it - you don't like ETH - but I really think you're just looking for things here. Teams get injuries. The main difference is our squad is small and broken, so it's harder for us to deal with them. We have no LB. We have one teenage CF. We are one injury from McT in central midfield. That's the problem.

What Fergie was arguably best at was creating a system and squad that could absorb these injuries and still be successful.

a friendly reminder of what was occuring 3 years into Sir Alex regime, we had police coming to Old Trafford to remove season ticket holders who wanted "Fergie" out.

Ten Hag has been in his position just moving into two full seasons (714 days).

To put into context, Arteta, has been Arsenal manager since 2019, Arsenal should have booted him after the second year right ? As that what alot of the brain dead Arsenal fans wanted, right ?

Same thing here, fickle fecking football fans, worse of the worse, no idea how to control their emotions of "want daddy want".

Yeah, one can say Ten Hag has made "mistakes" who fecking hasnt.

But the drivel some people come up with here, my God, take a look at yourselves, take a look at the person inside, understand things take time.

And one last thing, in the beginning of the Fergie era, there were no sugger daddies, if there was a suger daddy it was us, a self created sugar daddy.

Do I really have to say this ???? Last 10 years (and earlier) the amount of money that has come into the game, that never existed before, which has come to teams that never had such funding, would have no effect on United's dominance ??

You got to be living in cookoo land to compare the era when Sir Alex dominated to today .......

Damnit, we should have kept Ole init

A very nice piece here: Facing Manchester United: Opponents tell us what it’s like to play against ‘the big gap’ - The Athletic

Key points;
- disjointed pressing - really aggressive up forward, while the defence drops far back
- Our 10 and 8 tends to man-mark the oppo 6/8s, leaving just a single midfielder to cover the gap between our forward press and the back 4
- If the oppos overload the midfield gap, our back 4 contracts to really compact shape, leaving lots of space down the flanks
- If you manage to play past our wingers, our FBs won't dare to press
- Defence prone to get drawn towards the ball carrier, often leaving the far post uncovered

All of these things are identified and exploited by our opponents

We are playing Casemiro and Amrabat in central defence tonight from the sounds of it. Mental.

Is there not anyone from the reserve/youth sides that can be brought in thats an actual central defender to play alongside 1 out of position midfielder at least?

You say this like it's the same squad of players.

There's a difference between squad rotation and overplaying players until they are injured and having to choose someone else.

It's not just this season, it's two years of ten Hag overplaying players and it's caught up with him.

That's the great con of "when my players are all fit", they never will be with this guy.

6 CBs out injured, plus a FB who could have played there. I wonder if that's a first.

...Plus mcT who could fill in. Everyone claiming it is overtraining. I seriously struggle to believe our training sessions are anywhere near as intense as city, arsenal and liverpool's training considering how much energy they expend game after game especially when compared to us.

Hopefully it's growing pains needed to get us up to the levels of other teams intensity wise (didn't klopp's liverpool get a load of injuries the first 2 years of his tenure?)

Feels like we’ve a load that just don’t fancy it, same thing has happened with other managers, can’t be a coincidence.

Manager will get potted and then this lot will do the same to the next manager and we’ll find another scapegoat.

Weak.

First year, yes. Second year, no. We’re trending in the wrong direction. Worse in season two than season one.

Martial has hardly rushed back has he knowing he's leaving. Probably same for Varane aswell.
