How bad have our injuries really been this season?

What game was it where our energy levels were much improved, and after the match Bruno mentioned that they hadn't been training as intensely that week?

The comment really stuck in my head because the following week we went back to playing like shit again.

Apparently the first two months of 2020 he was on them for a hip problem, with Anka also claiming that he finished that season on painkilling injections for another unspecified injury. So not quite the whole of 19/20 as I initially said, but the business half.
Didn't know that.

When we hired Gary O'Driscoll from Arsenal I joked to my gunner mate that we'd struck gold hiring the man responsible for the storied injury history of Abou Diaby.

Doesn't seem so funny any more.

How the feck are so many players getting injured outside of games? Are we playing high intensity training matches every day? I can't fathom how there can be so many injuries in regular training for a few hours a day at most.

People saying we're unlucky with injuries. This has nothing to do with luck, there is something seriously going wrong at the club.

How does a club size of Man Utd keep signing injured players? And how do these players pass medical fitness?

Seen a couple of commentators opinion that:

The way Ten Hag sets us up is probably the cause of our soft tissue injuries. The players have to sprint back and forth more than most teams.

It’s that + seemingly constant high intensity training.

But hey United fans still think it’s just “bad luck”
Please tell us more about how United seemingly set up training that's affecting the bodies so badly. I've take physiology in college, I understand the lingo so don't dumb it down for me.

Hmm I don’t know maybe the constant reports of players being exhausted from training and asking to dial it back a bit + watching us play a basketball game every 90 minutes doing nothing but sprinting back in forth endless times+ coming off the back of a season where we essentially never rotated?

Eventually 1+1 = 2. You can’t just cry about rotten luck especially when the majority of injuries are the same issue (soft tissue) constantly reoccurring. It would be different if this was a bunch of players breaking legs/tearing ACL’s or some other contact injury.

This. If the issue is as widespread as this it's surely something to do with the training and tactics. The manager needs to be responsible of his squad (thats why he's called the MANAGER aka the person who manages) and part of that management skill is to manage player's workload and fatigue to prevent injuries. So far ETH has failed in this aspect

All those injuries will not be less worse next season where a lot of players will come back from the Euros to pre-season training and working there and play 5, 6 games in this pre-season.

Biggest injury is sitting on the bench and 'coaching' the team.
Talking of EtH, I remember reading about how he made the team run 10k or something after the 4-0 loss to Brentford back in August 2022. It seemed to have been effective, and I liked his disciplinarian attitude at the time; it was welcome after Ole being way too willing to give the players leeway. (Obviously, the needs and wants of the players should be listened to, but under Solskjær it was just straight up “go out and do your thing” and he let players like Rashford, Lingard, and Pogba stink up the place.) Now, of course, ten Hag’s methods are way too fecking straining on the players and are asking them to do the equivalent of pulling themselves up by the bootstraps (to use the original meaning of that metaphor). Honestly, why oh why did he ditch his style of play that he had last season, which brought us moderate success,

Evans, Lindelof(from being reliable he's now in that category)Varane, Shaw.

They are injury prone players. If you go into a season with them you're asking for it.

Even Kambwala, he's been constantly injured for the past two years.

Injuries have been quite bad. Main problem is the lack of quality cover in the key positions / key players. In that respect, the squad is a bit thin compared with most of the teams above us.

This has probably been our worse injury season. The issue is we don’t have a squad strong enough to cover the injury’s. Our depth is awful.

Moderate success? I think the plan is to develop a style (and squad of suitable players) to step up from that. I don’t know if the methods are causing the injuries but I doubt it really (although could be a factor in some of the injuries I suppose). Truth is, to win, we have to raise and sustain intensity through games and you can’t do that without training for it.

It’s not great, but we’d need about 8 centre halves to have the position covered. We need a squad of around 60 players to be safe at this rate. Unfortunately we can only register 25.

Other teams manage it though. City have a very strong starting 11 and strong bench. If we hadn’t spent so badly over the years we’d have a decent first 11 and then we could have just been focussing on improving the squad which gives us good competitions throughout the team.

I actually disagree. Most positions have good depth. Especially compared to Villa, Spurs and Newcastle.

The GK and ST positions have poor depth. We actually don't even know good/bad Bayindir is due to ten Hag's reluctance to use him.

The midfield has plenty of options. You could argue a lack of quality in some areas, but Casemiro, Eriksen, Mainoo, Amrabat and Mount were his signings/loans. Fred was moved on and Hannibal was allowed to go out on loan in January. McTominay and Bruno Fernades are the only midfielders he inherited that are still regularly used in 2024.

United's CB depth isn't bad. If Harry Maguire is your backup CB, you're not doing too badly. Even Evans has been a solid 5th choice defender.

Maybe it’s the training. Seems interesting though that the positions most affected are the ones who do the least amount of hard sprinting and pressing. The percentage of injuries in the midfield and front 3 is lower than in the back. And it’s the front 6 that are doing all the kamikaze pressing and chasing back.

Maguire and Lindelof compared to Dias and Gvardiol though who was both on the bench for city yesterday as they had the luxury to do so. I don’t think any of the top teams would take either of them. We don’t need average players. We need very good players.

Source?

Our players don't run or sprint more than other teams a significant amount.

Injuries have NOT been an issue at all. I mean ten Hag has one fit CB available and a brain dead RB playing LB who’s in capable of attacking, but that’s no excuse! No valid reasons for a step back in results this season are allowed!

4 points in weak CL group, 20 defeats across the season and negative goal difference.

'step back in results'

100%. If ten Hag wants to be bald then he needs to pull out miracles and play like prime Barca even when half his team isn’t available thru injury. It only 27 different CB pairings, get on with it!

Nice straw man

You dont have a point.

Again many thanks for proving my point that the supporters are so deluded and miserable that they can’t acknowledge that numerous injuries to our key players have significantly impacted our results, in addition to questionable decisions from the manager. Now read that twice or thrice, if you need to understand the point.

Having a incompetent fraud of a manager has impacted our results more than any excuse you care to list.

Bolded key points from previous post for assistance:
