Horse racing tips

Bryan Cooper makes me want to back Rare Bob as well. That jockey has the Midas touch. I've got to stick with what I've got though.

I've stuck a few quid on Imperial Commander, and some on Colbert Station EW. Will probably back another closer to the time, depending on how my bets go before The National.

Me too, brother.

Got that at 66/1 :D

P.S I am a big fan of the trends system in attempting to dissect a race and the main trends for the Grand National are fairly conclusive going back over the past 15 years (I've seen some of these stats posted elsewhere but used them to research the race myself):

  • Won over 3m
  • Aged 8-11
  • Official rating 135+
  • 3 - 6 runs in the season (majority also ran within last 50 days)
  • Won a class 1 chase (possibly include a class 2 winner)
  • No more than two falls in career

Two stand-out horses that fit all of the above are Chicago Grey and Forpadytheplasterer. Rare Bob, Across The Bay, Teaforthree and Joncol also come close to the trends and I cannot discount them as the National can be pure pot luck. In saying this, Neptune Collonges had more than two career falls and only ran once last season and went on to win this last year so the trends can be beaten.

It's not feasible to back seven horses in one race so I'll try to pick two/three selections to add to Chicago Grey and Forpadytheplasterer before the off. Best of luck to everyone else with their selections.

Finalised selections:

Chicago Grey 12/1
Forpadytheplasterer 66/1
Rare Bob 22/1
Across The Bay 33/1
Teaforthree 12/1
Joncol 50/1
Quel Esprit 50/1 (have him in the Caf sweepstakes so had a small each-way punt for entertainment. He's been set out for this all season too so if his jumping holds out, he could have a say)

I placed a larger stake on those at the head of the betting and small each-way bets on those towards the rear. The class has been coming to the fore in the National in recent years so, with luck in-running, the classier sorts do tend to be there or thereabouts since the weights got a re-vamp a few years ago.

I think African Gold will relish the going today and should go close at 8/1 in the next. Beaten last time by At Fisher's Cross, who pissed home yesterday. Interesting that the trainer earmarked this race rather than going head-to-head with AFC again.

African Gold disappointing. I was expecting a better run from him. Solwhit impressive.

Had him at Cheltenham. Didnt fancy the price more than anything else today. Carberry is the favourite jockey.

African Gold ran well I thought. He stayed on well enough against a strong field. Theres bigs races in that one yet...

I also went for him based on this recommendation, and his name.

Just found this thread:

I've put a few bets on the Grand National, what do you guys think of my chances?

Imperial Commander £10 E/W (£20) @ 16/1

Balthazar King £10 E/W (£20) @ 16/1

Teaforethree £10 E/W (£20) @ 14/1

Seabass £10 E/W (£20) @ 10/1

Sunnyhillboy £5 E/W (£10) @ 16/1

Fancy Imperial Commander to win it for some reason.

Good luck people!

Tea for Three - 14/1
Cappa Bleu is my favourite at 12/1
Had a couple of quid on Oscar Time e/w at 50's

Got Sunnyhillboy on the sweep in work too.

Tea For Three and Seabass in particular are coming in fast, but McCoy's ride Colbert Station is drifting out.

Got to be happy with that. Won about £32 for e/w on Oscar Time and 2nd for Cappa Bleu, I thought he'd win it .Waley-Cohen delivers again though.

Good man, Sixpence. Three out of the first five, excellent going. I had two out of the first five (Teaforthree and Rare Bob) so I'm happy enough myself.

So I had £4 bonus credit and split that on Rare Bob and Cappa Bleu each way at 18/1 and 12/1. What are the winnings on that chaps?

30 or 60?

Also, do any of the Bet Victor betters know the 6th place horse?

Swing Bill was sixth.

I've got to chase some money back in either the 5:10 or 5:45 now. This won't end well.

Nowhere near that much. It's quarter odds for a place. So £3 for Cappa Bleu and £4.50 for the other.

The futile salvage attempt starts here with Shotavodka. The name really speaks to me right now.

Aye £35 actually. 50/1 when I placed the £2 e/w bet.

There's a horse running in the next at Dundalk that ran there last Friday night which was unlucky in running but stayed on well. That was a 1m 2f race and she goes tonight at 1m, which should suit better. On paper she's the fittest horse in the race as the others haven't ran this season, and their prices reflect potential rather than actual form. She should go close, I feel.

7.20 Dundalk Poly Pomona 3/1

Nice winner in the end, SP was 2/1.

The horse that won the race last Friday at Dundalk which I mentioned above is running again in the 8.45 at the same course. Atlas Peak won well that night, and considering that Poly Pomona won next time out, the form stands up. Atlas Peak is going for a hat-trick at Dundalk so is in good form at the track. The race is restricted for jockeys that have less than 10 winners this season to date, and Atlas Peak's jockey gets the maximum weight exemption. Should be there or thereabouts again.

8.45 Dundalk Atlas Peak 5/1

Classic Trials and a good card at Cheltenham tomorrow. Best of both worlds.

What a Name is my fancy for the 1000 Guineas on May 5th. She's French and has good form against colts. Also has a run under her belt already this season. Still value at 7s and should be clear fav.

Over the sticks Champion Court is a well handicapped horse and has his conditions in the 3.55 tomorrow. Actually the best horse in the race but receives weight from the front two. 5/2 is very fair.

Could not agree more, am on at 12's and feeling confident.
